The new White House standard for reopening the economy in various states is rigged to severely prolong the economic strangulation under the current lockdowns. The criterion
has been defined as a 14-day period of declining volume in new cases or a 14-day period of declining rates of positivity of those tested.
Testing is ramping up in every state, which if the epidemiologists are right, will produce a lower percentage rate of positivity on the tests since the curve has been bent. But there is a new factor which throws all of these calculations off so far off that the 14-day standard should be abandoned. That factor is

I have been confused by the discussions of tests during the pandemic. Does a test look for antibodies or the virus itself? If a person tests positive for antibodies, but isn’t sick, does that mean he is immune? If he is immune, how do we know that he is or is not a vehicle for the virus, and can infect people who may then sicken and even die? Does “herd immunity” mean that most of the people who will get sick and die have died? Or does it mean there are so many people in a population who have caught the virus, been under the weather for a time, developed antibodies and then recovered, and do not carry the virus, that the people who might sicken or die are safe? That might be what Rush has been talking about in the case of California. It seems that with this virus we all have to wear masks and maintain social distancing until there are no more virus particles around. And how long will that take? Or maybe the question is, will the virus ever disappear? No wonder scientists worry about “novel viruses” escaping from laboratories.

Heading back to work today. Wonder what awaits me. Drove past Saturday and the temp-taking tent was still up. Will we have to mask? I'll know by 7pm.

I'm afraid the longer this is allowed to continue, the more Americans will accept it.
Instead of massive protests I see passive no-tests.

If you're confused, search youtube for a video called "Wow, this sums up everything". It will validate your confusion and maybe even make you chuckle just a bit!

The latest Government Models show the Virus evaporating in May. Cases and hospital bed usage will plummet. And, only congregate living facilities will continue to be hotbeds of CV.

Fox News just played Bill Gates from an interview on CNN (yesterday?) that the approach is testing ((?), social distancing/lockdown and then a vaccine. What is the obsession with vaccine? Still have none for HIV/AIDS and enough with Alfonso and his HIV treatment commercial. gag.

#7, I'm at the point where I don't believe in any of these models. Time after time they have proven to be as useless as the data put into them. We should just forget these models and open up the country. I'll wager that we will never notice any difference than before the virus. Things will be as they were.

I hope that gyms do not require a test for me to restart my weight training routine! If they do, I will laugh off my memberships!

#1, good questions.
let me try to offer a non scientific answer.
if you are driving your car on a city street today, and there are not many cars on the street, you are less likely to be involved in a chain reaction collision than you would during rush hour..
That is a way of looking at herd immunity.

This guy is absolutely correct. Comparison of apples to oranges has always been a major flaw in statistics creation and the constantly increasing number of tests ensures that meaningful results will never be achieved. They might be able to level off their numbers by shutting down the country for a year but we can not survive that mistake. We need to open up the economy and battle the virus at the local level. We must also not forget that the White House is not forcing any mandates, inept state and local leadership are.

#8 Gates wants to corner the vaccine market for himself. Look what he did to India. Gates took control of India's National Advisory Board (NAB) and mandated 50 polio vaccines (up from 5) to every child before age 5. Indian doctors blame the Gates campaign for a devastating vaccine-strain polio epidemic that paralyzed 496, 000 children between 2000 and 2017. Look it up. I don't know how India didn't ask for extradition to hang him high.

Nothing says the states have to listen. And that might lead to a discussion about the feds stealing money from the state's citizens and to then dole back out to state as bribes to obey the feddies....

It's a case of moving goalposts. I have difficulty believing there isn't either an agenda or incompetence somewhere behind it.
The "official" reasoning behind all the lockdown measures was to slow (not stop) the spread of the virus so that hospitals and healthcare systems were not being overloaded. The test results standards (as defined in the re-open guidelines) has nothing to do with overloaded healthcare systems. If someone wants to use raw numbers, simply base re-opening on how many cases are being treated/hospitalized as this takes the asymptomatic cases out of the equation. If someone wants to use ratios, count the number of cases hospitalized or requiring treatment compared to the local capacity to treat the cases.
Counting the raw cumulative number of cases while testing is increasing will invariably create a higher number which will prohibit re-opening if re-opening depends on the rate of raw numbers dropping. If they wish to use cumulative numbers of total cases, they need to at least be compared with serious cases to have any meaning.
