In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Felix Gallardo still left her Passaic apartment every day to head to her job at a local warehouse. Once she started coming down with covid-like symptoms, the single mother said she had to quit her job, which didn’t offer sick leave. She can’t collect unemployment and isn’t eligible for the federal stimulus check because of her immigration status. Gallardo and more than 500,000 other undocumented immigrants, some legally residing in New Jersey, comprise the vulnerable community being crushed by the coronavirus pandemic, exacerbated by inequities and barriers, according to a new report released Thursday.

Unless there has been a change, if you quit your job you are not eligible for unemployment insurance.

Sad to be so desperate for someone's approval.

They forgot the part where her undocumented (illegal) boyfriend beat her every night in front of the children, her charitable work saving abandoned kittens, her saving up money to send all her kids to medical school, the violence in her home country where a thousand people are murdered a day. Oh, and she is blind in one eye and has no legs.

Were I to move to Mexico, get a job then quit it, would I be eligible for a handout from the Mexican Government?
I don't think so.

Here's a contradiction: she's here illegally but potentially resides legally in New Jersey. Some statute somewhere is crying everyone's tears. What a world?

No matter where a benefits line is drawn, someone on the other side has a sob story to tell. The answer to this is either no benefits to any one, with all afflicted telling a sob story, or benefits to any who professes need...and everyone will be broke

1.) America first
2.) you quit - no unemployment for you
3.) it's the panic, not the virus that's causing the problem. We would all rather be working.
4.) the only barriers you face is the law. That's true for all of us. That's fair and equitable.
Finally, if' you're going to continue living here, consider supporting people who will let us observe our constitutional freedoms instead of the little tin-horn dictators that you seem to like so much.

"exacerbated by inequities and barriers"
First inequity: Some people were born here, others came here legally, and others violated the law to be here. Those who reject the law's restrictions cannot presume its protections.

If they have a valid Social Security number they should have no problem. If they don't they should be arrested for tax evasion.

Hmmm. $600 a week for illegals is more than my social security check for which I worked and paid into. Something doesn't add up here.

How can a foreigner be an illegal alien legally residing in New Jersey? In reality outside the liberal media realm there is no such thing.

New Jersey has two programs the benefit citizens. One is the Homestead Rebate ( tied into income) which equals a 10% cut on your property taxes. The other is the Senior Tax Freeze , ( also income related) where you establish a baseline at 65, pay your full property taxes and get back the difference between the baseline and your payout. If Murphy is going to pay out money from an already cash strapped state to illegals, will it be at the expense of taxpaying fixed income seniors? Quarterly taxes are due May 1st.

ICE needs to advertise "Undocumented worker payments", rent a storefront.
Require all applicants to sign a carefully worded document admitting that they are in the country illegally, have fraudulent documents, and have it signed and validated biometrically.
Then send them over to door #2, where they will be fitted with handcuffs and loaded on the the next bus
for Mexico City.

Why are these "undocumented residents" even employed in the first place? Do NJ employers not run prospective employees' info through E-Verify? I think I read someplace that it is against the law to employ illegal immigrants. How about we offer them an all expense paid one-way ticket back to their countries of origin.

"Exacerbated by barriers?" She had no difficulty illegally surmounting the "barrier" that is our southern border.

What is it you don't understand governor? The are ILLEGAL emigrants, ILLEGAL. They have no rights in this country so they need to go back to where they came from. Give them money and see how many more show up and the borders for handouts. You should not be in a state leadership position. What does your constituents think about this???

So Governor Murphy wants my lower tax state to bail out his ultra high tax state (NJ) so that he can give people here illegally from other countries $600.00 week for breaking the law so they can continue to stay here illegally??????

This is the same Murphy who was so whiny about the prospect that the feds won't bail him out?
He'd like to give money to people who shouldn't be here, and get reimbursed by the rest of us?

NJ is broke where is he going to get the money?
People are going to lose their homes and cars for being out of work.
They will have a hard time paying property taxes.

Then these illegals should move back to where they come from and look for free money there...
Obviously NJ doesn't use E-Verify.

Oh to be undocumentidad in a sanctuary state, where nobody knows your real identity and you can probably collect multiple handouts despite cheating all government systems, from citizenship to paying taxes to purchasing the mandated health insurance. Olé, it's fiesta time, amigos!
