The moon’s water ice and other natural resources can be mined and used by the United States, according to a new executive order signed by President Trump. The president on Monday signed the executive order, which has been in the works for about a year, titled Encouraging International Support for the Recovery and Use of Space Resources. The directive stresses that the 1967 Outer Space Treaty allows for the use of space resources on the moon, Mars and elsewhere.“Outer space is a legally and physically unique

I don’t see the economic pay-off for spending billions to bring back a limited amount of material due to the load capacities of returning spacecraft. I’m not thinking of current technology, but future technology. I admittedly have a hard time conceiving sufficient rocket power to haul equipment for setting up mining operations. And also rocket power to bring stuff back. I know water can be converted to rocket fuel and it’s on the moon; but still, the expense. Anything from the moon would be horrendously expensive, in my opinion. Even here on earth, there is gold that’s too expensive for mining because of the trouble it would take to get it.

Oh my, the liberals will be FURIOUS! The International Campaign to Ban Landmines will scream!!!! How can Trump encourage war on the moon by having the Space Force plant anti-personnel mines to murder explorers from other nations like wonderful China!!! That will be the ABC coverage, then picked up by NYT, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, WaPo ...........

Hmmm, we could use the moon as a penal colonies and require the inhabitants to ship needed materials to Earth in exchange for the supplies they require. No need for rockets to bring goods from the moon. They can use "electromagnetic catapults" to throw materials. There is the danger the "Lunies", with the help of a lovable computer nicknamed "Mike", will realize catapults can be used to throw rocks at Earthside cities and decide to revolt.

The moon should be ours anyway. We were the first ones to get there and stake a claim.

The cost of putting a pound in orbit must approach that of hauling it 100 miles by train or truck before this is of any value.

if i weren't typing on a laptop connected via the internet, holding a cell phone containing a 64GB chip half the size of the nail on my little finger that cost me $25, i'd say no way can anyone make money mining the moon. Well, NASA couldn't.....

I think mining the Moon is more relevant to sustaining a presence there, as well as producing the materials needed for further space colonization and exploration- to Mars for example.

#1 It all about Helium-3 from Moon dust. Can't find that on Earth and its a safer nuclear fuel than going fusion and a lot less messy than all that Uranium and nuclear waste. A few pounds would go a long long long ways. Jupiter would be a better source, but talk about transportation issues... And besides, we have a few US Flags on the Moon. That rock is ours!

And who’ll pay for all this? Look in the mirror, suckers. I suppose the government will finance all the necessary tech and hardware. Bring back manufacturing, too. Boob bait.

Sounds like a good thing, if it can be made to pay for itself. It will need to be getting some extremely valuable items to make it pay any time soon.

Mining operations cause the moon to move just a little and with it the destruction of earth.
Leave the moon alone.
