FTA: "Dead Americans versus legitimate fear of a dead American economy — that is his question." This is not, as the author implies, an either/or choice. There is a high degree of correlation between economic Healthy economies facilitate healthy citizens and distressed or dead economies yield distressed or dead citizens.

"The 93-year-old Elizabeth II did it to perfection." Sure. It was easy for her because all she had to do was give a pep talk. That was a good thing to do but she didn't have to make any policy decisions so there was nothing to criticize her for. She tried to cheer her subjects up with long term visions that no one could really question. I have great respect for Elizabeth II but comparing her to the President or any other executive leader is pointless. They have totally different jobs and she has no "opposition party" idiots to deal with. Everything said about Trump is blah, blah, blah.

This was a Bash Trump article of the raised eyebrows, splayed fingers, shrugged shoulders “I’m just trying to help” variety. Trump is doing yeoman’s work and a damn good job of leadership as well. Only the meanest of soreheads fail to give the man the credit he deserves as he lauds his Covid-19 response team, healthcare workers all over the land and the American people. When this is over the media will dine out on how Trump should have done everything differently and blah, blah, blah. I’m already bored just thinking about it. And, after reading the whole article, I still have no idea what Queen Elizabeth has to do with anything.

President John F. Kennedy famously observed during a gathering of Nobel Prize winners: “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House — with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.” And so it is again with President Trump’s daily assemblies at the White House featuring some of the world’s leading public health experts, epidemiologists, business leaders and economists. Clearly, Mr. Trump listens carefully to his panels of experts. And — clearly — these experts often clash.

Sickness due to the coronavirus is real. Death — at least some — due to the coronavirus is real. But how much is real versus how much is a best guess? Unfortunately, we don’t know. Even more unfortunately, we can’t even ask without facing a barrage of criticism from a variety of camps. History may very well show that the biggest casualty of the coronavirus outbreak may not be the body count, but rather the ability of a population to think critically, to analyze rationally, to arrive at conclusions based on fact and logic, not wildly fearful emotions.

The whole world is praying for a miracle that will get us all through this China coronavirus crisis. As this Easter weekend approaches, there are signs that another Easter miracle may come this year. (snip) The government bodies used by US experts to predict the number of beds, hospital rooms and ventilators cut their numbers by half today. And they are still way over actual amounts needed this weekend. The estimates for death in the US have gone down from 2.2 million to 81,766. Hospitals are not seeing the rush of patients predicted – this was from California:

The Washington Post recently touted "an alarming new scientific model" that warns that treating COVID-19 like a somewhat more severe strain of flu won't cut it. The model predicts over a million U.S fatalities unless we shut down all non-essential mingling until a vaccine is developed, "which could take 12 to 18 months at best." Pretty bleak stuff. In fact, that's about the bleakest take on COVID-19 you'll find. Let's run with it. Let's momentarily not raise a fuss about having no reason to trust the model's underlying algorithm or whatever unknown assumptions about the virus generated its scary predictions.

A federal appeals court has rejected a lawsuit from Congressional Democrats who accused President Donald Trump of violating the Constitution by receiving profits from foreign governments' spending at his luxury Washington hotel and other businesses. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals decision did not address the legality of Trump's business dealings, but held that the more than 200 Democratic senators and House members who banded together in 2017 to bring the suit against the president lacked legal standing to do so.

CNN’s so-called media reporter Brian Stelter hid ABC’s Jeffrey Epstein scandal from CNN viewers. There’s just no question that the Project Vertitas video of Amy Robach laying out how she had nailed down the Jeffrey Epstein story all the way back in 2015, only to have ABC News “quash” it, is one of the biggest media stories of the last 20 years. Just like NBC News covering up for Harvey Weinstein, here you have ABC News covering up for a rapist and sex-trafficker, and almost certainly doing so as a means to protect Hillary Clinton’s doomed 2016 presidential campaign.

In a federal court in San Francisco, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America is currently suing the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) for illegally taping videos and racketeering, among other crimes. Founded by David Daledien, the CMP nearly brought Planned Parenthood down when it released its series of undercover videos. How Planned Parenthood avoided disaster is a story that deserves attention given what we have since learned about the agency that rescued it, Fusion GPS, the mastermind behind the notorious “Steele dossier.” In 2013, the then 24-year-old Daleiden launched what would prove to be the most sustained and effective undercover journalism project since the Chicago Sun-Times famed political sting of 1977.

In Louisiana's Saturday election, Republicans had a lot to cheer about. Among statewide office-holders, the incumbent GOP Lieutenant Governor (68 percent), Attorney General (66 percent), Treasurer (60 percent, and Agricultural Commissioner (58 percent) were all re-elected without the need for a run-off, under the state's 'jungle primary'-style system. It also appears that the solid Republican majorities in both state legislative chambers will remain intact -- with the GOP expanding its Senate advantage into super-majority territory by picking up a pair of Democratic seats:

Rome - Pope Francis has said the coronavirus pandemic is one of "nature's responses" to humans ignoring the current ecological crisis. In an email interview published Wednesday in The Tablet and Commonwealth magazines, the pontiff said the outbreak offered an opportunity to slow down the rate of production and consumption and to learn to understand and contemplate the natural world. "We did not respond to the partial catastrophes. Who now speaks of the fires in Australia, or remembers that 18 months ago a boat could cross the North Pole because the glaciers had all melted? Who speaks now of the floods?"

Dr. Zeke Emanuel — the architect of the bloated Obamacare legislation — essentially called for an 18-month national lockdown to stem the coronavirus outbreak. Ezekiel Emanuel was the former health-policy adviser under Barack Obama. He’s also the brother of former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, who was Obama’s White House chief of staff. Zeke Emanuel has been spent his entire medical career in academia or government, so it’s safe to say that he doesn’t have to worry about missing a paycheck during a nationwide shutdown. Like fellow government bureaucrat Dr. Anthony Fauci, Emanuel offered a bleak picture of America’s future. “Realistically, COVID-19 will be here for the next 18 months or more,” Emanuel told MSNBC.

Dr. Fauci says we'll have to keep living like this until the virus is eradicated. Even if "virus" isn't his nickname for the American people, following his advice still means a long, grueling haul. The economic shutdown and social confinement oppressing us have to continue for at least the minimum estimated 18 months it will take to develop a vaccine for COVID-19.
