Sweden is taking a different approach in battling the coronavirus pandemic. The country remains open for business and life goes on as usual with few restrictions. (skip) allowing life to go on as ‘normal’ with a few exceptions. Unlike neighboring Denmark – which has restricted meetings to 10 people or less, Swedes are still going out to nightclubs, hanging out with friends, and even ‘enjoying ice creams beneath a giant Thor statue in Mariatorget square,’ according to the BBC. No one is alone in this crisis, but each person has a heavy responsibility.”

By restricting interactions all you do is delay the virus. The hope is that gives time to come up with a solution while you wreak havoc on an economy. Sweden is right. Viruses will have their way until herd immunity is reached: 66%-70% of a given population.

Since there seems to be a cure for most of those infected, this makes a lot of sense. Get flu, get your quinine, go out, enjoy life.

A prime example of how national sovereignty serves the interests of the entire globe. Without subjecting everyone to the same consequences we may discover a best practice for us all to follow. That's how our states are supposed to work. Best of luck Sweden, we all stand to learn and gain from your courage. When one entity rules over all they can spin whatever story they want, and say: had we not done exactly as we did the deaths would have been X and the economic impact would have been Y, and nobody can prove otherwise.

Sweden is doing what would have happened here if it were not an election year with a Republican incumbent whom the media and liberals hate! If this were any other year, COVID-19 would have been mentioned as a new strain of the flu that makes old people sick. We would have heard about it for a week or two and it would then have faded away and been treated like any other strain of the flu is every other year.

They did the same thing with the Muslims… Maybe the Swedes just have a death wish? My Wisconsin-born Dad used to talk about all the Swedes in Minnesota. In those long ago times, they were not considered to be too bright. Could the Wisconsinites have been on to something?

I prefer this solution to the one we are incorporating. Sweden is placing the responsiblity on the indivdual. Here, we are freeing criminals to prevent the spread in prison while jailing Christians worshiping in church. I know most don't give a bat's arse for civil liberties in times like this but civil liberties are needed after the pandemic, not persecution of those exercising theose liberties. We are a far too trusting society in our goobernment that wants to control us, not goobern based on our consent.

Sweden will be just fine, the deep state created a panic which caused an emergency. Trump used his emergency powers to seize the fed. Fair trade for staying at home for a while. Getting our monetary system back from the swamp will bring a whole lot of money back in to the system.

The Sacramento County Department of Public Health announced Monday it has moved past trying to contain the virus and is now hoping to mitigate its impact as new cases are reported. Placer and Yolo counties also announced they are shifting strategies in stopping the spread of COVID-19. The Trump administration said on Tuesday said it will begin treating five major Chinese state-run media entities with U.S. operations the same as foreign embassies, requiring them to register their employees and U.S. properties with the State Department. Two senior state department officials said the decision was made because China has been tightening state control over its media, and Chinese President Xi Jinping has made more aggressive use of them to spread pro-Beijing propaganda. "The control over both the content and editorial control have only strengthened over the course of Xi Jinping's term in power," said one official. "These guys are in fact arms of the CCP's (Chinese Community Party's) propaganda apparatus."

Changes to an academic curriculum normally do not arouse public controversy, but we do not live in normal times. Yale University’s decision to abolish its venerable “Introduction to Art History: Renaissance to the Present” has drawn considerable publicity and outrage, surely to the surprise of its instructors. For Tim Barringer, chairman of the art-history department, it was a straightforward act of modernizing. “No one survey course taught in the space of a semester could ever be comprehensive,” he told the Yale Daily News, nor could any single course “be taken as the definitive survey of our discipline.” Instead of that course’s heroic journey from Michelangelo to Jackson Pollock ...

Statistics drawn from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program show that the violent crime rate in 2018 hit its lowest level since 1971. FBI crime stats show the “estimated rate of violent crime was 368.9 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants.” That is a 3.9 percent reduction in the rate when compared with 2017 stats, but the real lesson emerges when we look long term. For example, Bearing Arms reports that the 2018 rate of violent crime was barely above the 1971 rate of 396 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. Ironically, one of the greatest differences between 1971 and 2018 is that there are exponentially more privately-owned firearms

Divorced, excommunicated, 25 years old with three children, my mom never felt sorry for herself. She told me time and again during my boyhood that we should appreciate everything we had. Take nothing for granted. Three weeks of Air Force survival training in the rainy mountains of Colorado taught me how easily I had taken the simple comfort of a dry, warm bed for granted. Watching my infant son turn blue, with nary a breath or a heartbeat, taught me how quickly I had taken him for granted (he survived). We take things for granted all the time, don’t we?

Engineers at Purdue have built a flying robot to mimic one of the most expert flyers in the natural world: the hummingbird. Drones wish they could fly with the agility and grace of the biological family Trochilidae, which includes all 357 types of hummingbirds. Boasting the flying capabilities of birds and the hovering abilities of insects, they represent an intersection of flying philosophies that scientists are eager to unlock. Hummingbirds could lead to leaps forward for search-and-rescue drones, commercial filming robots, military use, and any other flying venture that is punctuated by quick, unexpected stops and starts.
