Smelling the roses while quarantined

Since I've been more or less quarantined since last September due to health problems, life hasn't changed that much for me in this coronavirus era except for one sad thing.
My children and grandchildren are staying far away fearing they'll somehow make me ill because I am very high risk.
Thank goodness for Skype. Now the whole world has joined me in its own self-quarantined bubble and I wonder if everyone is getting as much out of it as I am.

AOC would be horrified to find out that roses grow in dirt.
As for me, I’m quarantined with my daughter and her family which includes a week old baby boy. I spend my days helping to care for him and reveling in every little thing he does and how quickly he changes, seemingly minute by minute. When he is napping, I work on embroidering his birth sampler - something that will take me dozens and dozens of hours to complete. As Alicia says, time has truly slowed down and forced us to focus most of our attention inside our own homes.
Stay well and enjoy the leisure time that you have right now. As soon as this is over, we will all be busy again rebuilding our lives and taking care of our losses.

This article is even better than Alicia's usual and that's saying something. In the days when I worked in that cubicle I could only dream of sitting out here in the woods and watching the birds and squirrels. Now I'm doing it and it's just as good as I imagined.

Thank you for the uplift, Alicia. We've missed you. I'm learning that alone doesn't have to mean lonely. Thanks also for the review of Stargirl. I will seek it out.

I always enjoy your articles, facts and musings! a voice that is needed when so much (99.9%) of the media is negative, partisan to the extreme, down right evil and choose to not report facts or news accurately because they don't fit their predetermined narrative.
I wish you well. Continue to use your voice to spread HOPE. We are listening, hearing while reading your messages.

Thank you so much, Alicia. Also a supposed high risk grandma, life is little different than usual for me ... except for the onslaught of "progressive" news to scare... not scared! Think the whole thing has been overblown and this coronavirus is not too much different from all the other coronaviruses. Do understand and appreciate President Trump for taking it seriously and taking early actions. He is our savior against Communism and Islamist terrorism/world domination ... trust and admire his dedication, determination, personal health, wisdom and stamina! What a man! Hello, Melania... DLTBGYD... you are an American treasure!

I don't think its a coincidence this world-wide event is happening during the season of Lent. It is traditionally a season of retreat from the madding crowd and evaluating one's relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is the season that prepares us for the Passover of the Lord. We are called to be Old Testament people for 40 days. To trust in God's ways, especially when they make no worldly sense.
In 1884 Pope Leo XIII had a vision of God talking with Satan. Lucifer wanted 100 years of free reign to destroy the Catholic Church. God gave him his choice, and Satan chose the 20th century. Pope Leo never made a public statement about the vision, however the cardinals that found him unresponsive on the floor reported, “…no pulse…and the Holy Father was feared dead (and then) suddenly, Pope Leo awoke and said, ‘What a horrible picture I was permitted to see!'" He also said, “…in the midst of the horror [of the vision] the Archangel St. Michael appeared and cast Satan and his legions into the abyss of hell.’”
This can be a troubling conversation to contemplate. Pure Good in dialogue with pure evil. But this is not without precedent; God conversed with Lucifer in the story of Job with the same result. Job was tested mightily.
In response to the vision Pope Leo composed the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, “…defend us battle and be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits that prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.” He ordered the prayer to be recited at the end of each Low Mass. Pope Paul VI discontinued the rite in 1968. Our bishop has reinstated it for our diocese.
Pope Leo was already aware of the dangers emerging through Marxist philosophy. As early as 1878 he attacked the fundamental errors of Socialism. In 1891, “Rerum Novarum” set out Christian principles on the relationship between capital and labor.
We are in a time of great evil and it is a time permitted by God. We are being called to join the Great Battle and our first century Christian brothers and sisters should be our examples. Take note, gentle friends, Satan’s century is over. The mop-up isn’t going to be easy or pleasant, but we are called to be faithful prayer warriors and publicly confront and rebuke evil.
God is at work in the world...and President Trump is His builder.

Blessings and prayers for your health, Alicia. Thank you so much for your wonderful, timely column and for reminding us that, indeed, we mortals take a long time to grow. It is time for mankind to return to and reflect on the Wisdom of our Creator, as provided in Scripture, written through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the inerrant Word of God. “A Time for Everything” – “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; A TIME TO PLANT, AND A TIME TO PLUCK UP WHAT IS PLANTED; ... 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; ... 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

Great piece by Alicia as usual. She sees things the right way. Indeed, we all have taken to a simplified lifestyle for a while. Living in a smaller town, not much as changed for my wife and I except my fitness center is closed and our favorite restaurants only have take out. It is heartening to be pampered at the grocery because we are mid-60 somethings.
One very positive results from this virus thing is that our children and grandchildren are video-calling us twice a day since the schools are still closed. I still drive into Colorado National Monument to take some hikes to supplement my at-home exercises until the gym re-opens. We have curtailed our RVing a bit until the pandemic goes away. But, cooking dinner sometimes in trailer while parked in our side yard sure helps to feel we are out somewhere. Going to the grocery store early in the morning is the way to go because, except for TP, laundry detergent, canned goods, breakfast cereal, and pasta, the store is fairly well stocked.
American businesses have really stepped up to provided critical items and services.
When this is over, go to your local truck stop and give all the truckers you see a mega hug for keeping America's supply chain moving during these difficult times.
We tune into the President's daily briefings and always come away with confidence the right measures are being taken. Otherwise, totally ignoring the msm. Our information is coming straight from Lucianne.com.

I have friends who were scheduled to camp at a local campground. They were told the campground will be closed til May1. They will camp in their yard. One is off for vacation, the other is mending from broken bones in the back.
As for me, I am alone, but not lonely. My dear departed husband is with me as always. His spirit is strong.

#10, thank you for the reminder of the prayer to St. Michael. The parish I attended before moving 2 years ago began saying it at the end of each mass way back in 1995. The priest started it because some teens in our parish had gotten into some nasty drugs. As far as I know they are still saying it. It’s one of my favorite prayers and I’ve said it often over the years for our military. I’ll have to go get my St. Michael’s medal and start saying it more often again.
