It gets very hard to ask questions when nearly all of the media and government and many of those you live near and work with are all wringing their hands in unison. COVID-19 or coronavirus has many scared and scrambling. But who’s asking questions beyond, “What do we do now!?”
The psychology around this virus and the way it's being covered is very strange. We know President Trump began taking action in January to mitigate travel between China and the United States. Media and health officials knew about coronavirus then. Maybe you heard a passing blip about a cruise ship, but certainly nothing like this.

Interesting! When Trump came on TV to speak about what his next step would be, I watched the market go up and up! It ended at 1985.00 Awesome! Somebody must think our President is doing a good job!! I certainly do!

Every talking head tells us to stay informed, but never give us any info except to wash our hands frequently. Here are some questions I'd like answered even though I might already have the answers. What is it like to have this virus? From several people interviewed who have had the virus, it's appears from their view outside of a high fever, it wasn't all that bad. How many people who have died are over 60 and had other health issues, such as COPD. Why is this coronavirus so much worse than any other coronavirus virus we've already been exposed to? I asked a doctor at Johns Hopkins Hospital this question, and he said we've probably already been exposed, we just don't know it. There are a variety of coronaviruses just like there are a number of cold viruses. I got the impression from him, he's not that worried about this thing. He just said do the same thing as all the talking heads. Wash your hands, cover your mouth when coughing, etc. I get the impression we're going to look back on this years from now, and we're going to wonder what the fuss was all about. The news media, government, schools, the NBA, MLB, NHL, etc. have all blown this all out of proportion, and created mass panic. I only hope the stock market comes back so I retire.

Apropos of one the author's points -- the slavish admiration of liberal health-beat reporters for health bureaucrats -- the following thought occurs to me.
The liberal writers say Trump should let medical "experts" have complete control of the COVID-19. process, and shut up himself. Well, generals know a lot more about war than some pencil-neck politicians. Would these liberal reporter argue against civilian control of the military?

I've been saying countries would not kill their economy if there were not more to this than we're being told, I think iv'e figured out what it is that drove them to their insanity. Panic! Pure panic drove them to it. I'm seeing it right here in my little town. Walmart, Sams, The dollar stores, grocery stores, completely wiped out of not just toilet paper and hand sanitizer but everything all because our schools closed. If the homeless in Seattle aren't dropping like flies in the hot zone this thing cannot be nearly as bad as the media is hyping it up to be.

Between the media and our government, a panic has been created. Its an election year. There is the reality, and then their is the hype. Stock market is going wild in both directions. The economy is taking a hit, and it appears to be self-inflicted. We're running out of toilet paper?!? How does stocking up on toilet paper prevent coronavirus? This is a panic. Brought to us by the media and our government, especially the Democrats. It does not pass the smell test.

The spread of the COVID-19 virus from China to South Korea, Iran, Italy, Europe, and the US is a very real thing and not just some media hype. It follows the same power law rules that other pandemics have followed in the past including the H1N1 swine flu in 2009. What seems to be different is the level of focus the media is putting on it which is causing the panic behaviors we are seeing.
Does anyone remember the swine flu? It killed over 12,000 people in the US and between 150,000 and 570,000 people worldwide and yet the US stock market was up 40% during that period. Nobody was cancelling sporting events or vacations on cruise ships at the time. The store shelves at Target weren't stripped of toilet paper and disinfectant wipes.
We didn't even see the first news stories on it until it had killed about 1,000 US patients which is a far cry from the 40 or so that have died from COVID-19.
The difference now is that the news media has become hyperpartisan with the election of President Trump. Any Republican president would be attacked but with President Trump the hatred is on steroids.
What I still don't understand is why certain large countries have almost no reported cases of the virus. Russia has only 45 reported cases and India has only 82. Their economies are not being destroyed by any panic behaviors. Are they really hiding thousands of infected patients and deaths? India is a modern democracy with a lot of poverty and primitive sanitation practices. Why has the virus not spread there like it did in Italy? My thought is that in both Russia and India there is already so many untreated medical conditions that nobody really bothers to get a special test to determine what caused it. They just suffer through their lives and some of them die. Every day.

In the 1950s between 13,000 and 20,000 children contracted polio each year before the vaccine. Many of these were from swimming in public pools. As shocking as this seems to us now, parents at the time accepted the risk as part of life. As medicine and science provide ever more ways to extend our lives we seem to be more and more afraid of the uncertainty in the world. Could this be related to the religious fervor over the unknowable consequences of climate change? We think we can control every aspect of our reality when, in fact, it is as unpredictable and mysterious as ever.

The left wing media and Democrat Party machine co-ordinated an attack to create a panic. Anything to destroy Trump and the economy, and to bring the Democrat presidential nomination to a halt, as even the Democrats know it has been a huge failure. The Democrat Party is ran by the party machinery, which is supported by the mob and the union thugs that will do what is good for the Democrats without being asked, as they know the Democrats will protect them in return and return the favor. Democrat voters have no say in any of it. The left always creates an emergency to legitimize their taking complete power. This is about a half dozen attempted coup's upon President Trump, including the Russian, climate, corona, obstruction of justice, perjury, impeachment, emolument lawsuits, tax return lawsuits, family attacks, solicitation of false witnesses, spies -----and the Republican DOJ has not been able to make a case? If the DOJ can indict a ham sandwich, you would think they could make a case on one these issues, so simple that the lazy prosecutors could do it from old newspaper clippings.

I'm tired of watching talking heads running around with their hair on fire, waving their hands in the air, shouting, "We're all gonna die! Trump's fault! Woman, children and minorities hardest hit!!" This had gone beyond ridiculousness and crossed into the realm of utter absurdity!!
