People worried they may have been exposed to the coronavirus no longer need to endure a 14-day quarantine in Sacramento County, according to health officials. The Sacramento County Department of Public Health announced Monday it has moved past trying to contain the virus and is now hoping to mitigate its impact as new cases are reported. Placer and Yolo counties also announced they are shifting strategies in stopping the spread of COVID-19. (Snip) The effort is now focused on protecting the at-risk population while encouraging healthy residents to follow simple protocols to self-quarantine as you would with any other flu or common cold, according to Dr. Peter Beilenson,

Comments:

So instead of trying to really slow the spread of the disease these 'public health' idiots are not requiring those exposed to go into quarantine. They are making quarantine optional. This is not just the flu - Italian officials are reporting a 3 to 15% death rate. 3% is huge. That is millions dead.

This is insane. How do they protect the vulnerable by doing away with quarantine? Also, the article tells us this. Supposedly children were not getting this bug: As of Monday evening, 11 cases of COVID-19 had been reported in Sacramento County, with the most recent case diagnosed in an Elk Grove elementary school student.

The Trump administration said on Tuesday said it will begin treating five major Chinese state-run media entities with U.S. operations the same as foreign embassies, requiring them to register their employees and U.S. properties with the State Department. Two senior state department officials said the decision was made because China has been tightening state control over its media, and Chinese President Xi Jinping has made more aggressive use of them to spread pro-Beijing propaganda. "The control over both the content and editorial control have only strengthened over the course of Xi Jinping's term in power," said one official. "These guys are in fact arms of the CCP's (Chinese Community Party's) propaganda apparatus."

Changes to an academic curriculum normally do not arouse public controversy, but we do not live in normal times. Yale University’s decision to abolish its venerable “Introduction to Art History: Renaissance to the Present” has drawn considerable publicity and outrage, surely to the surprise of its instructors. For Tim Barringer, chairman of the art-history department, it was a straightforward act of modernizing. “No one survey course taught in the space of a semester could ever be comprehensive,” he told the Yale Daily News, nor could any single course “be taken as the definitive survey of our discipline.” Instead of that course’s heroic journey from Michelangelo to Jackson Pollock ...

Shocking footage shows pedestrians scrambling for cover as the top floors of the building fell to the ground in a giant cloud of dust. Another harrowing video shows cars frantically trying to escape falling debris as terrified tourists watch on. The incident happened on Canal Street, a major thoroughfare through the centre of New Orleans, on Saturday at around 9am local time. Statistics drawn from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program show that the violent crime rate in 2018 hit its lowest level since 1971. FBI crime stats show the “estimated rate of violent crime was 368.9 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants.” That is a 3.9 percent reduction in the rate when compared with 2017 stats, but the real lesson emerges when we look long term. For example, Bearing Arms reports that the 2018 rate of violent crime was barely above the 1971 rate of 396 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. Ironically, one of the greatest differences between 1971 and 2018 is that there are exponentially more privately-owned firearms

During a visit to the region on Sunday night, President Donald Trump said he is working with lawmakers on “trying to come up with a solution” to gun violence in the wake of last month’s mass shooting in Dayton’s Oregon District. In an exclusive interview with the president, News Center 7’s Molly Koweek asked President Trump what a solution might look like. “We have to protect our second amendment,” Trump said. “We can’t let guns be taken away from good people, but we want to have them taken away from crazy people.”

Divorced, excommunicated, 25 years old with three children, my mom never felt sorry for herself. She told me time and again during my boyhood that we should appreciate everything we had. Take nothing for granted. Three weeks of Air Force survival training in the rainy mountains of Colorado taught me how easily I had taken the simple comfort of a dry, warm bed for granted. Watching my infant son turn blue, with nary a breath or a heartbeat, taught me how quickly I had taken him for granted (he survived). We take things for granted all the time, don’t we?

Engineers at Purdue have built a flying robot to mimic one of the most expert flyers in the natural world: the hummingbird. Drones wish they could fly with the agility and grace of the biological family Trochilidae, which includes all 357 types of hummingbirds. Boasting the flying capabilities of birds and the hovering abilities of insects, they represent an intersection of flying philosophies that scientists are eager to unlock. Hummingbirds could lead to leaps forward for search-and-rescue drones, commercial filming robots, military use, and any other flying venture that is punctuated by quick, unexpected stops and starts.

Sanders called on President Trump to declare an “emergency” — something Trump already did on Jan. 31 — and then added that the president should essentially, be replaced: Because President Trump is unwilling and unable to lead selflessly, we must immediately convene an emergency bipartisan authority of experts to support and direct a response [to coronavirus] that is comprehensive, compassionate, and based first and foremost on science and fact.

Throughout the years, American homeschooling and online K-12 education has become far more popular and realistic than ‘brick and mortar’ public schools want to admit.
