It’s the year 2020 and the prodigal Dixie Chicks have finally returned, no thanks to George W. Bush and his ilk. Their new Jack Antonoff–produced single and music video, “Gaslighter,” dropped today, ahead of the May release of Gaslighter, the first new Chicks album in 14 years. Naturally, we have a landslide of feelings about it. Cowboy, take us away! Madison Malone Kircher: The Dixie Chicks are back! I could cry. In fact, I did.
Rachel Handler: Let me begin by saying, for perhaps the 500th time in my brief life: Fuck you, George W. Bush. I cannot believe our erstwhile president nearly ruined music forever.

George Bush turned out to be a lightweight turncoat, so I don't feel so bad about Natalie Maines' comments years ago. If I was one of the other "Chicks" i'd have been angry with her for sabotaging their careers. (I suspect out of the spotlight, they were not pleased).

I tried but couldn't read this. I actually liked a couple of their songs in this quality starved era, hell I even like Pete Seeger's old work. And those ungodly Jacobites inspired some of my favorite music. If I were to stop listening music from nasty people it would get pretty quiet in my basement.

Thanks for the warning and the time you saved me, #1. Music was officially ruined sometime in the early 80s, long before George W. Bush. Too bad because we now have the technology to save and play hours of electronic noise. My deluxe car radio with six speakers is usually silent except for when Rush is on.

I made it about a quarter way in, what a toxic wallow. Just a sample to dissuade those on the fence about reading this - "And is this song just about him or is it about the curse of heterosexuality in general?"

Sounds like two lesbians slobbering, tongues out, for Natalie Maines.
Is the Handler one related to Hollywood liberal Chelsea?

Dixie Chicks??
I think I saw some of them at Tractor Supply the other day.
They were really cute chirping along in that box waiting to be take home by some kids for Easter.
You really shouldn't give kids living animals for Easter, usually they get ignored and die.

As a former music major with a pretty good ear even at 66, I cannot tolerate today's music at any level other than a live classical performance. EVERYTHING is auto-tuned and I can hear it instantly! Part of music is that it is an attempt to reach a perfect sound...but that is unattainable by mortal man. Auto Tune makes everything sound perfect...which makes everything sound terrible!

I so glad that there are so many channel choices to choose from. At 77 years young, I still enjoy old (50's and 60's) rock and roll and old country. Those Dixie broads were in that group and time that have ruined country music. I tried to watch the CMA's a couple of times in the past few years and couldn't watch. Thank God there are still a lot of stations that play Jones, Jackson, Cline, Twitty and the rest of the real country artists.

So much hate, both from the author(ess)es and the artistes. But that's the Left. They can only thrive on hate.
With the hate comes fantastical history. Because there is no sin in lying your way to success in the interest of Progressive policies.
The introductory lie of the article is that George Bush put the Dixie Chicks out of business. No, in truth, the Chicks treated their fans like ignoramuses who needed Progressive re-education. Their fans responded rationally -- because their fans are not Leftists. The Documentary Shut Up and Sing shows the DCs watching concert sales sputter on the day of release, along with their career. One of the few great moments of conservative Schadenfreude caught on film.
The thematic lie of the just-released song appears to be that somebody has lied to them about something. You know, the Other that haunts Leftist nightmares. Don't know who or what that is. They never get to any specific other than recounting that somebody told people to move to California. Wasn't me.
Heartened to see that the first comments to the original article are not at all complementary. Yet more evidence added to the already heaping pile that the Left has lost its mind.

I agree with the above posters and while I couldn’t get past the opening posted paragraph, I’m surprised that this website allowed the four letter descriptive word to be published here. I’m not a prude by any means but reading that sort of language is not what I expected on lucianne.com.

I started to read this garbage....now I wonder why I even bothered. The Dixie Witches were never much of a talent, to begin with. Stopped pretty quickly when I realized there was no content, just spewing by fools.
And now one has decided to be a lesbian - or is at least advertising that.
Zero interest.

"nearly ruined music forever. "
Hysterical much?
I'm willing to grant that the bitchy band of angry fatties had some talent and even managed to stumble across a few catchy songs; but to speak as if they were the embodiment of music, itself, is certifiably batshit crazy.

Four more minutes of fame for the Has Been Chicks. The very title of the song and their album says it's a another flop. People who listen to C&W music don"t want politics forced on them

I enjoy country music. Liked the Dixie Chicks once upon a time. Heard the new song yesterday on the radio. It’s an awful, sophomoric, insipid song. So, in addition to being subjected to execrable lyrics and political sentiments, the Chicks are trying to impose a just plain bad song on us.

A group of has-beens desperately trying to regain some semblance of relevancy in a culture that has passed them by. And for the record, I never liked them. I like real country music (Cash, Haggard, Lynn, Willie, Waylon, etc). The Ditzy twits were never country. They took MOR Top 40 material, slapped a fiddle on it, and called it country. As fake as Fauxcahontas.

#29 The answer to the third question is Natalie Maines. She sticks out because she was the one who made whacked out statements and put their group into the tank. And, IIRC, she married an Iranian.

Well, I suppose the Dixie Chicks are empowering if you are in to murdering men, or babies, or conservatives, as these feminist dyke writers seem to be. It seems to be their fan base, now that they insulted most of their Texas and American fans. What do they mean that Bush nearly ruined music forever? They insulted President Bush and Texas, not the other way around. They brought it upon themselves.
While I like some of their songs, when their fans told them to go away if wasn't exactly "the day the music died."

Bush's fault? Leftists are truly delusional. She spouted off and dissed Bush, Texas, and America in a foreign country and their fans were hacked and deserted them. Country music fans are mostly conservative so it was a remarkably stupid thing to do. They tanked their careers all by themselves. "W" had nothing to do with it other than be a target.

Yeah, and President Trump destroyed Kathy Griffin's brilliant comedy career, out of pure meanness. Her own vile behavior, insanity and abandonment of actual humor had nothing to do with it.

The rest of pop country music has gone so far down the toilet the last few years, who is even going to notice these old hags trying to make a comeback?!?!?!?
They used to be sort of cute, but now they just look like over-made-up cougars hoping to get lucky at closing time if they can find some young guy who has had too much to drink!!! Except for Natalie, of course, she looks like a cougar is a lesbian bar. Not much has changed there.
I guess they heard how Schumer is threatening Supreme Court justices and figure they will fit right in!!!!!
