A couple of 10 year old boys were doing what 10 year old boys do, playing battle with some toy guns. Then someone called the police on them, and next thing the boys knew, they were being tossed into the back of police cars in handcuffs. The two boys were charged with felony menacing, and forced to do community service, among other things.Fox 21 in Colorado Springs reports:A Fort Carson family wants to share their story with others after their 10-year-old son was arrested and charged with Felony Menacing, a Class 5 felony, which has since been expunged.

What kind of a lunatic stops his car and screams at a kid with an orange tipped toy Nerf gun?
What sort of a cop actually carries through with this lunacy and arrests the kids?
What kind of an idiot cop cuffs kids in his car for playing with a toy gun?
The parents should sue the police department for harassment and stupidity. If I was on the jury, I'd
vote in favor of that.
In case you have trouble envisioning a Nerf Gun.....

There are NO Nerf guns that look anything like or could sanely be mistaken for a real gun.
All are bright orange and blue, and yellow and obviously TOYS.

My 10 year old grandson plays by himself in the backyard, using multiple nerf guns. I have no idea what games he is playing but sadly, it looks like it is too dangerous for him to continue.
Nerf guns, for crying out loud!! They don’t look anything like real guns - on purpose! This world is crazy!

This is disgusting. Another lefty over-reacts. Anyone including the out of control driver and the police officers involved in the case should be fired and charged. The boys' parents are about to become very wealthy.

When boys no longer are forced by law to register for the Draft, knowing that they could be forced to join the Army and fight our enemies, then I might say they do not need to play with toy guns and learn the bloody business of war... but boys grow up knowing that they might need to know how to use weapons. Now society (at least mentally ill liberals ones such as this in Colorado) will have them arrested for "felony menacing." They should not have been pretending to be shooting at cars, however. A driver couldn't know if the gun or bow is real.

We can't deport illegals for rape, murder, etc. but we can ruin the lives of 10 year old boys. Oh, and destroy the Boy Scouts that might have taught these kids a lesson about playing with toys.

Violation of rights under color of law. Their limited immunity doesn't protect them under those circumstance, generally. Go after their pensions, along with an agreement they will never again work in LE in the Western world.

Yesterday, i saw on internet picture of a couple of people flagrantly shoplifting in front of two clerks in a San Francisco drugstore. Seems it's only a misdemeanor there if the amount shoplifted is less than one thousand dollars, and so it's not worth stopping them.
Then, when you read story above, you wonder who is in charge of doling out justice in some places in the United States? More like children than adults.

As a 10 year old I had a matching pair of authentic looking pearl handled cap gun "revolvers", and a cowboy outfit to go with. All the brothers and neighbors were similarly equipped. Any cop that messed with our posse would have been laughed out of town.

As I remember (it was a loooong time ago) I had a silver six shooter with pearl colored grips..you took out the bullets, separated them into bullet and casing, put a circular cap in the case and put the bullet back and reloaded for six shots...lots of Indians and bad guys fell to this combination...

I am old. And it is a good thing because of what and how I played as a kid 65 or so years ago. I would have been deemed a felon in the friendly state of Colorado. This makes me sick.

I had a double barrel pop gun for a while at about age six, and later a 3/4 sized Luger that looked real and the toggle operated when the trigger was pulled. That's in addition to the usual cap revolvers. My favorite was a revolver I had in Germany that used plastic speed loaders and was massively loud. Neither here nor Europe did anyone call the cops or my parents. Sometimes the neighbors would smile and wave.
The world was always insane but now its stupid too.

A friend's father made me and his sons a Thompson sub machine gun look a like back in 1962 out of wood, but he painted them baby blue and black so that there would be not any confusion to the fact that they were just toys. He was a Korean War Vet.

What a shame. Kids can't be kids anymore. No more cops and robbers, no more cowboys and Indians....I don't know if kids actually play these games this day and age but still....let the kids be and chase down real offenders.
If the powers that be are so concerned why don't they pick on the manufacturers of these toy guns?

When I was a kid I wanted to be Annie Oakley. I had a cap gun with holster. I didn't have the full outfit but I did have the hat. I loved shooting my gun!! I never got into any trouble except once when I was shooting my gun during our elderly neighbor's naptime and woke her up. She opened her window and yelled some words at me that I had never heard before (she had the vocabulary of a longshore man).
She wanted my parents to take my gun away but hey.....kids are gonna be kids. I kept the gun but was told not to use it while Mrs. Kiehl was napping. She was a crochety old gal.....!

A 10 year old doing community service. That’s child labor! I don’t understand why any policeman would do that to kids. I’d sue the guy who made the 911 call The cops and the city. More irresponsible on the adults that did this.

At age 11 I was given a .22 rifle and went into the woods to learn to shoot. The constable checked me out when the new neighbors did not like it. He let me shoot and he went on his way after we talked about his revolver. Now Colorado locks up kids and not pot heads.

Sorry. First, the kids shouldn’t have been shooting at cars. Drivers are already stressed. Second, although nerf bows are orange, some of the guns are black and have an orange tip not visible to a car passing at speed. If I saw some kid pointing a gun at me I’d freak out too. That being said, once the mp’s saw what was going on, the boys’ parents should have been called. Arrest was uncalled for.

#10, you are very mistaken.
Nerf guns DO NOT look like real guns.
NOBODY is stupid or ignorant enough not to know from 50 ft away that a bright blue, bright orange and bright yellow toy gun held by a 10 yr old is a TOY.
They do not look like real guns.

My apologies to #10. The post I was addressing is just- gone....perhaps a spammer or troll being cleaned up by the staff.
Basically said, something about how this was goid because you can't tell if a TOY gun is real or not.
Yes, that is true of some, but not nerf guns.

Same here, #20. I had two that went with my Lash Larue out fit. I also had a small bullwhip and Lash would whip the guns out of the bad guy’s hands. I remember talking my little brother into holding one of the cap guns out so I could ‘whip’ it out of his hand. It didn’t end well and I got a genuine ‘whipping’ for that dump stunt.

Where is Opie, Andy and Barney? I still have my brother's toy guns from childhood - he has one, I found the other in my grandmother's stuff from when he used to play at her house w neighbor kids. You know, the late 70s. I have it - still silver. Still has the chamber you can rotate and put fake nothing in. It just popped like a sweet tart puff out. Not even snap cap stuff. I could walk outside w it - not here where I live - but many other places not far off - and be arrested like these kids. ABSOLUTELY INSANE! The poor things are falling apart, but are still silver, still carry the same shape. But if shot, they fall apart. Someone would DIE over just having this in their hand. UTTER STUPIDITY.

The only place where the Boys were wrong was when they pointed their toy guns into oncoming traffic. I think that's what I read. If so, that was not smart at all. Even as a kid, knew not to point anything at moving cars, not a rock, not even a big yellow squirt gun. You don't know what kind of person is behind the wheel. Maybe somebody who's been paranoid for many years.
