Conservatives have been trying for decades to create an immigration system that rewards immigrants who won’t be a burden on society and discourages those who will.
The Trump administration this week began enforcing the “public charge” rule, giving U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services the authority to refuse green cards — the key step on the path to citizenship — to people who have used a wide range of nonemergency welfare programs.
“The main reason this got done is because we have a president who is determined enough to make self-sufficiency matter again in a meaningful way,” said Ken Cuccinelli, who pushed through the rule as acting chief of USCIS

“ Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who opposed the stay, unloaded on her Republican-appointed colleagues, saying they have created a “breakdown” in the appeals process by being too quick to agree with the Trump administration.”
Soon, may there be tire tracks in this DUMB Latina’s face!

Correct. Open arms + welfare state = bottomless pit. More common sense = more winning!

Perhaps I am wrong but isn't a green card essentially a work permit?? If you are not working and supporting yourself then why would we issue a green card for you. Supreme Court rules quickly because it is just common sense.

OMG, #4 Common Sense applied to a problem. No wonder Sotomayor is upset. In this case Up is up and Down is down. The Sky is blue and green cards are for work, not wefare checks. Who knew?

I believe the Somalis received special treatment because they were rescued from a war-torn nest of pirates. I still can't figure out why they hate us but it no longer matters.
What? You have no job, twelve children, a wife and three girlfriends and you want a green card? Vamanos amigo.

What took them so long? This should have happened 3 years ago. There are too many people coming into this country for a free ride. I hope it is over with Ken Cuccinelli. If anyone is a head nose, it's Ken. He's tough but fair
#4 the Green cards are approved for immigrants that qualify to come into the U.S. but not limited to work. There are multiple reasons. Please see this website because it provides a better understanding who maybe qualified.

This is great. When news filters back to the hoards in the south, maybe this news will reduce the will to come here.

I wasn't exactly sure what a green card is, and thought, like #4, that it might be a "work permit", so I did a bit of investigation.
According to Wikipedia, not always reliable on political things, but generally correct, a "green card":
"known officially as a Permanent Resident Card, is a document issued to immigrants under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) as evidence that the bearer has been granted the privilege of residing permanently in the United States."
Wikipedia continues with:
"Green card holders are statutorily entitled to apply for U.S. citizenship after showing by a preponderance of the evidence that they, inter alia, have continuously resided in the United States for at least five years and are persons of good moral character."
So, apparently, removing their green card will prevent them from becoming US citizens. Perhaps they will be eligible for deportation, also, since they can no longer legally reside here permanently. Not having "new citizens" who are on welfare benefits is a very good thing. We need Makers, not Takers, if people are going to move here.

Yanking green cards is an excellent start. Now how about we start cleaning up the corruption of legal citizens who are using welfare as some kind of multigenerational legacy in their families instead of getting jobs?

I need to get my glasses changed. I thought the article said ''flogged!'' FTA: Anyone who used those benefits for at least 12 months out of a three-year period would be flagged.

Kind of like the common sense posture to take, after all President Trump is the President of the USA and his job is to look out after America and the interests of Americans, and not the entire world.

Its a start. My pet peeve is anchor babies. These women are dropping kids like guppies and signing up. So tired of them looking at us and smirking, then getting into brand new cars and trucks.
