Richmond, Va.—Virginia lawmakers passed a bill Monday that scraps the state’s Lee-Jackson holiday celebrating two Confederate generals and replaces it with one on Election Day. The House approved legislation that had already cleared the Senate, advancing the measure to Gov. Ralph Northam, who supports it. Lee-Jackson Day, established over 100 years ago, is observed annually on the Friday preceding the third Monday in January. It honors Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, both native Virginians. Critics of the Lee-Jackson holiday view it as a celebration of the state’s slave-holding history that’s offensive to African Americans.

They really are hateful people, aren't they. Real Virginians will not like this at all.

The Democrats want you to know they oppose slavery. Yes, they do now, but in the first half of the 19th century they were the party of slavery, and thereafter they were the party of civil war, of Jim Crow, of the KKK, of internment camps, of segregation, and now they are the party of identity politics. And, forthwith, they proceed to lecture you and me on our racism.

Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were two of the finest men our nation has produced. They should be judged by the customs of their time.

Most companies now have floating holidays or personal days.
I use one of those for Robt. E. Lee’s birthday in January.

Some history isn't worth celebrating. Face it, they fought to continue the institution of slavery. It was Reconstruction fabrication that put up these statues and started the falsehood that The War Against Northern Aggression was actually for state's rights.

And after the Confederacy fell, the democrats fought to preserve slavery for another 155 years and counting.

Both men of honor. I hope to meet them some day. I want to hear about Gettysburg, and whether he should have listened to Longstreet..

They can replace it with the Sanders Biden Holiday.

Somebody starting a petition ? This makes me ill. I am deeply offended by MLK Jr being a whore monger. He has to go too. Every street in this country with his name on it is in a ghetto.
And frankly, Gov. Black Face, I don't give a ... about your 'feelings' These generals are our ancestors. I am ashamed native Virginians have been replaced by carpetbaggers.

Demonrats just can't help themselves from destroying everything this country stands for in freedoms. They'll even ruin a state's history to fit their agenda. Are VA voters that stupid? Apparently.

They might think making election day a Holiday will get out the voters, but I would bet it will be just the opposite. I think those voters, who don't have to go to work that day will do something fun (after sleeping until noon). They would have been smarter to give those who work a two hour lunch hour to go and vote! That means they have two hours during their work day to Loaf, smoke, go the 7/11 and maybe find some weed and get High! Either way, those who really want to vote will find a way and those who don't care about it won't do it even if you give them a day off work!
