NotThese days we're often regaled with news stories highlighting firsts – 'she's the first LGBTIQ++ Latinx to graduate from the Che Guevarra School of Global Warming who has devoted her life to petting same-sex kittens, tilling community gardens while simultaneously running Riverkeeper kayak trips for one-legged dogs found on the streets of Portland.'You get it.So it was rather surprising to discover that mainstream news stories of the first openly gay White House Cabinet member – ever, ever – were left on the newsroom floor.Rick Grenell, the U.S. Ambassador to Germany, was just named to head the Department of National Intelligence by President Trump.

Conservatives conserve nothing. Not faith. Not morals. Not tradition. Not family. Nothing.
By all means appoint sexual deviates and degenerates to positions of power and authority. Then sit back and wonder how things could possibly have degenerated and declined to the point where people can't decide if they are male or female, what restroom to use or whether men identifying as women can compete in women's sports. Watch as proud perverts teach toddlers the ins and outs if deviant sex and that their ancestors were worthless, immoral bigots and murderous oppressors because of slavery - even thought the overwhelming majority never owned a slave and many fought and died to end the practice - or some made up "phobia" that was simply regarded as a wise and correct response to degeneracy.
We are the people allowing, even facilitating, the moral collapse of the west.

I can't tell if I am bothered or comforted by #1's response. Probably leaning more with bothered. Especially after looking up the definition of conserve.
Conserve is: protect (something, especially an environmentally or culturally important place or thing) from harm or destruction.
Maybe #1 doesn't understand the definition of conserve. When I read the first line of the post, I am not really certain if the correct definition of conserve is held. I actually think conservatives are trying very hard to protect faith, morals, tradition, family, everything. Things have degenerated and declined because faith has been attacked hard by liberals. They want to take God out of society. That sets everything else in motion. The decline of morals, tradition, family and everything else that is of God.

I really don’t think the appointment of Grennell has anything to do with the collapse of society. Would it be better for him to have been forced into the closet to get the job and maybe subject to blackmail? He will be advocating for our national security in the job. What does that have to do with his sexuality?

He may be openly gay, but he doesn't shove it down our throats and make us honor him for it like some people.
And it doesn't seem to be an agenda for Grenell, just how he is.
We all have friends like that and we hope they're being safe.

I am conflicted about this decision. As a Christian I know we all sin and I would not want anyone to be discriminated against because of their sin. We all could be subjected to a pecking order in regards to specific sins. Does sin “X” disqualify you from this or that or can it be overlooked because it is decided that it’s not really all that bad. To us sin is subjective, but to God it is all the same. Christ would have died for a gossip or any of those sins we deem minor if that was the only sin man had committed. because He came to redeem us all from all sin. So who I am to judge another when I am unworthy myself because I fall short everyday. Only man uses a scale to calculate sin. God sees us all as sinners needing a Savior.
Having said that, society must make judgments about people in everyday life. We must protect the innocent and vulnerable if we know that there is a possibility of corruption or harm for those around them. We would never want a child abuser near children and we make a judgment to protect them. We have no doubt been working side by side with people whose lifestyle would be abhorrent to many of us on many levels, not just sexually. I have no problem with the President’s decision as long as he conducts himself properly and does not bring reproach on the office he holds or the country. I will not judge him because my life may not stand up to judgment from others. The possibility of blackmail may be greater for some, but we all would come up short if our sins were laid bare for the world to see.

I am appalled at these comments and don't understand why this is a Must Read. The entire issue of his sexual orientation is a nothingburger IMO. Live and let live.

#5 is spot on ... as usual.
This man's sexual orientation is none of our business and he will explain himself to God when his time comes. Just as we will all have to explain ourselves to Him and why we did what we did when our time comes.
The point here is that the first of anything is historic and is usually noted as an accomplishment and that society is no longer deciding qualifications on that one issue alone. Thus, the first woman, black, Catholic, Jew, Hispanic, etc. (and whatever) to do anything noteworthy or to assume a position of authority & power is duly noted as a turning point. And that is usually it. We then move on as that glass ceiling is shattered and no longer applies. The issue is that Trump did it, so it's worthless and not worthy of mention.
Not to start a prohibited "chat" here but #1 seems to confuse "conserve" with holding society back or forcing others to agree with you. The world is messy ... always was ... so just be true to yourself. Be "in" the world --- without being "of" the world. We all live in a society that we don't approve of 100%.

If we weren’t told no one would know Grennel is gay.. He never speaks about it. Some of the responses here are pathetic. He is one classy man. He deserves the job. He has been in Germany a long time..

I suppose there are some people who would choose to die, or let their child die, if the only doctor who could save their life was gay. If Grenell is the best man available, then so be it. We have had plenty of heterosexual deviants (if labels matter) in Congress over the years. It's something to think about.

If you will, I have a second post. As Christians, our role is to make certain we brush off our own doorsteps. We constantly need to be in His word, the Bible. The role of a Christian leader is to always encourage congregation members to be in God's Word. I firmly believe confusion comes into play because church goers don't read their Bible. I have a family member who is a faithful attendee of church services on Sunday but refuses to read the Bible. It really needs to be read from beginning to end. My family member refuses any part of it and you can tell with some of the statements that are made.
People get hung up on certain sins like homosexuality, drunkenness etc. Did you know that gluttony is a sin? Heterosexuals living together without marriage etc.? There is a list but it is God (only) who can change people not me. My job or concern is to make certain that I live in His ways and not earthly ways. He gives us the Ten Commandments to be guided by but I happen to think there are twelve when you add in the Greatest Commandments, Matthew 22:37.
There is one other thing. I am reminded of the Good Samaritan parable in the Bible when thinking of Rick Grenell. If we didn't have this parable, we probably would have a lot of extremists with violence in mind to make certain people follow in their ways. . .
Just my perspective on things.

I daresay that President Trump chose Ambassador Grenell because of his competence which he's already proven by his stay in Germany. I don't know anything about the man, but I like it that the intelligence agencies seem to be threatened by him because he is not one of them. Anyway, there are lots of people serving in the government who are guilty of all kinds of sins that damage our country, and unlike them I know the Ambassador is a patriot who loves his country and will continue to serve it well , and I hope he did not withdraw his name.
Trump should have people around him who he can trust and who he knows are not dishonest.
Hopefully, General Flynn would come back and serve again when he is free of all the harassment.

Despite #1's rant, I view Trump's appointment of Richard Grenell as DNI as a positive.
Trump appointed Grenell because of the abilities, values, service, loyalty, and courage he has shown as Ambassador to Germany...DESPITE HIS SEXUAL PREFERENCE.
I have no problem with that, and think he will do well as DNI.

I share #17's view. If Grenell is the best man for the job, who cares what he does on his own time. He doesn't thrust it in my face (figuratively or literally) and it has the added benefit of making the Democrats crazy. Or it would do so, if they admitted to recognizing the singularity of the appointment. Since "Republicans appoint the first openly gay Cabinet member" does not reflect well on Democrats (including St. Obama), they are certain to continue to apply Treacher's Rule of Modern Journalism.

Grenell was appointed as acting director to DNI. Collins said an hour ago that he is not interested in the permanent position. I misunderstood the statement from Fox. Sorry. Grenell did not withdraw.

#1, God uses imperfect people to accomplish what he wants,
also we are counselled that only he who is without sin should
cast the first stone.
Hate the sin but love the sinner.

I'm personally dismayed that 42 people gave a thumb's up to post #1. I have no use for those who flaunt their homosexuality, as in gay pride parades. Nor would I want my son to be in a scout troop with a gay scoutmaster, but this is an entirely different circumstance. Thank Heaven President Trump is accepting of all patriotic, law-abiding Americans.

A true leader like President Trump looks at the qualifications of the individual. Such things as sexual orientation are incidentals. The Dems are the opposite. Remember Warren's recent comment that she would seek the advice of a young transgender before making a Cabinet appointment? For Dems, incidentals and identity politics come before qualifications.

I am disheartened that 52 people agree with #1. I agree with #3 and 4. I like Rick Grenell and I could care less about his sexuality. I am very satisfied he is the right choice because the left is apoplectic about the choice. We all have our shortcomings and will answer to God one day. But those prideful enough to think they should judge all others will also have to answer to God.
