One afternoon in 1992, I visited a friend at his quarters on Tyndall Air Force Base. We ate burgers and swapped stories, and then he looked at the clock and turned on the radio. “You gotta hear this guy!” he said with a confident grin.
I doubted that. I had tired of “shock jock” DJ schtick by the time I was 20. Still, Mike was a good friend who made very good burgers, so I prepared to politely endure the performance. Mike’s grin remained as I heard, for the first time, Rush Limbaugh’s diligent employment of the talent God loaned him.

I think President Trump should name a room in the White House the ''Rush Room!''
I remember when those became popular, after Rush captured the attention of conservatives. Local restaurants set aside ''Rush Rooms'' and played Rush's program through speakers, so people could listen to it while they had lunch. Liberals went crazy! The boycotted the restaurants, wrote nasty articles in the paper, and demanded that the rooms be eliminated. Rush won't last six months, they said. Ha! He's still here almost 30 years later!

Was driving around downtown Medford OR. in 1990, dialing through the stations when I heard a voice that thought much like I did. Have been with Rush almost daily ever since.

Amen, and Amen.
Prayers for a complete recovery for Rush. Not ready for a torch-passing yet.

I've been praying for Rush several times daily since I heard the news. I believe miracles happen and if enough of us pray for him, God will "loan" him to us for a lot longer!

My introduction to Rush is similar to the Mr. Long's. It was summer of '92, I was making strawberry jam and my brother Dave called and told me I had to listen to this guy on the radio. He told me what station he was on, so I tuned in expecting to hear some loud, shouting, rude, 'shock jock'. Instead I heard Rush. He was still based in New York and at the time, the 'rat party convention was being held. He had aides handing Kool-aid out to the 'rat party conventioneers. I've been hooked ever since.

I first heard Rush in spring/summer 1992 on the Phil Donahue Show. Donahue was trying to twist Rush's words to say he wanted to abort gays, when his point was that liberals will rethink their position on abortion when science could accurately predict a fetus would be gay. No one ever challenged the left that way.
Later that year, I became scared because all the predictions had Clinton winning the WH. So one October afternoon, I found his station and have been there ever since.
Good article, keep praying for Rush!

I'm guessing that all Rush fans remember where they were and what they were doing when they first heard Rush, family and friends "across the fruited plains" joining over the radio three hours a day, almost every day, in our case for more than 30 years. I was finishing one of my final Master's seminars (it happened to be "Bolshevism and Stalinism"). "We" have been through a lot together: our personal struggles and joys, and Rush's personal struggles and joys curiously connected.
We are pulling for Rush, praying for his healing and hoping for his full return soon.

My late father in law, who flew the flag in his front yard at half mast every single day of the Carter administration, was the one who first had me sit down and listen to Rush with him. It was during the 1992 campaign and I’ve been an avid Rush Babe ever since. He is 13 months older than I am and has been my older brother and friend for 28 years.
I firmly believe in the power of prayer, having seen it in my own life in the person of my adopted daughter. With millions of us praying for Rush I believe that God will listen and act accordingly.

Let us not think or speak of Rush in the past tense! He is fighting a deadly disease, but he is very much alive! This is a fight that demands faith! If there is one thing Rush Limbaugh represents, it is the courage, strength and will to stand strong against every foe, and face adversity with optimism and hope.
James tells us in Holy Scripture that the fervent prayer of righteous men avails much. There are millions of fervent prayers going before the Throne of Grace on Rush’s behalf, for Rush and all of those working on his behalf.
“It ain’t over till it’s over!” “Never give up!”
May our great and loving, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and merciful Heavenly Father grant mercy and total restoration of good health to our beloved Rush Limbaugh! His Will be done.
Loving you since 1988, Rush! God bless you and yours!

Thanks for posting, a great commentary. I found Rush a few years early than the author did, shown the way by my father, now gone for years. But we loved listening to Rush, and he really has been an important force in helping Americans to resist the relentless leftist evil of the NE and Left Coast crazies who run most of the Enemedia.
Please stay well, Rush. A lot of us are praying for your recovery.

I remember my thoughts after first hearing Rush on my car radio in the early 90's: This guy is letting us see behind the curtain! He was telling us how the world really works instead of the false images painted by the rest of the media. I'm looking forward to his return!

We first heard Rush on the radio while we were travelling. It was the summer of 1988 so it was one of his first national shows. Like so many others we looked at each other and said - who is this guy- and marvelled at how much he sounded just like us. We soon found him on our local station and have been listening ever since. We love you Rush, and are praying for that talent to be on loan for many years to come.

Rush and Kathryn are going to love this memorable line FTA: Rush Limbaugh’s diligent employment of the talent God loaned him. God must have checked his credit rating; it had been a substantial loan. Amen and amen.

I found out about Rush when 60 minutes did a special on him. That was a few decades ago. I think he still has couple of decades left in him.
