What is the official policy — today — of the United States in respect of Ukraine and the Bidens? Is it that Ukraine should investigate the Burisma energy company’s employment of the son of Vice President Biden? The veep’s son was pulling down something like $80,000 a month while his father was vice president. Is it the policy of the United States that Ukraine’s government should look into this?

Too many in Washington - and especially in the White House - don’t seem to know that the United States Constitution vests the power to make foreign policy SOLELY in the President.
Everyone else has an opinion, may be an adviser. In Vindman’s case, he expected his own opinion to prevail. He was cocky about it and he was very, very wrong. He is fortunate to have only been returned to the Department of Defense. Maybe more it to come?

Good article and it brings a new question: Now that the dust has settled, will Ukraine NOW go into investigating Burisma, the Bidens, and ALL those involved in (alleged) corruption, fraud, and illicit free-flowing 'spondulix' that found it's way into the pockets of lots of pols relatives? (looking at you, Mittens, and wasn't there another one?) There's a lot of unanswered questions hanging out there.

He needs to be removed from our military also. Plus banned from any government job both Federal, State, and Local governments, and any business that does any work or has any contact with said governments.

Vindman should have been court-martialed for insubordination.

The impression of the article is that Trump PRESSURED Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.
"the House concluded that it was a high crime or misdemeanor for President Trump to pressure a foreign country to investigate the son of a political opponent"
"The transcript made it clear that the President asked for Ukraine to investigate the Bidens. It just wasn’t a high crime or misdemeanor."
That is misleading. The transcript made it clear that the topic was discussed. NO FORM OF PRESSURE WAS DISCUSSED. It was mentioned as an area of interest and cooperation. The President said he applied NO pressure. The Ukrainian president said NO pressure was applied. The House found that aid had been paused and claimed that it was pressure. Yet, no one in Ukraine knew about it. No one in the path of communication on the American side heard it expressed that Ukraine should be pressured. The best they got was Sondland "assuming" there was pressure being applied.
The President has the right to discuss issues of shared concerns with foreign countries. In fact, Presidents often pressure foreign governments. What do you think the sanctions against Iran are? What do you think BO did to Israel. What do you think BJ Clintoon bombing an aspirin factory was, besides a political distraction?
The whole issue is a PC absurdity. Pressuring foreign governments is NOT a crime and in this specific case NO pressure seems to have been applied anyway. Vindman is a variant of Comey, "I know better than YOU!". Neither one has authority over the President unless a major law is broken. Even then, it would be up to the Justice Department to take action, not bureaucrats operating in the shadows using rumors and leaks and fake whistleblowers.
The only reason this became a "thing" is because the House, operating in a purely partisan manner, voted obnoxiously to do something stupid and outside Constitutional guidance.
Vindman was removed because he was insubordinate and untrustworthy. No one wants people like that working under them. You always have to worry about a knife in your back. It has nothing to do with Constitutional processes. It's about being a back stabbing, 5th column traitor.

A military court martial is in order here. Strip Vindman of his rank and uniform for his misconduct to the CIC President.
Another point that is never mentioned, Joe Biden is not President Trump's political opponent. Biden has not won the nomination at this moment Biden is Sander's political opponent but not Trump's. Second before any aid is sent to the Ukraine it's the President's right in foreign affairs to question if the US is supporting corruption or criminal activity in a country. The President can withhold aid and question if the Ukraine was an ATM for the Biden's or any others it's his right there's no crime in that.

You know that Vindman had several Nuclear Wedgies in school along with head in toilet while flushing! Just look at him! Army officer? Standards must be really low these days!

Just purging the weasels. Nobody wants someone like Vindman working behind their back. After all this, I hope Ukraine realizes it needs a corruption probe of their own. It will be fun to see who gets snared along with the Bidens.

"Is it the policy of the United States that Ukraine’s government should look into this?"
It should be the policy of the United States to investigate possible cases of nepotism, whether domestic or international, involving their highest-ranking officials (like the Vice President pulling strings to get his son a bogus job with big pay). The way the Sun worded that, though, makes it clear that they plan to continue pressing against PDJT.

How about investigating exactly why Quid Pro Joe was made "point man" on Ukraine? That would normally be the Secretary of State's job.

Inaccurate story. It says "The transcript made it clear that the President asked for Ukraine to investigate the Bidens. It just wasn’t a high crime or misdemeanor."
IIRC, Trump asked to get to the bottom of Ukrainian corruption. The words from the transcript are:
"...I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike…I guess you have one of your wealthy people…The server, they say Ukraine has it. There are a lot of things that went on, the whole situation.
Trump did NOT say "investigate the Bidens", what it said is "find out what happened in this whole situation,....one of your wealthy people, ". The Bidens names were never mentioned, and if you know anything about the background you know this was about the possible DNC hacking, and corruption with US money deposited in a bank in Ukraine going missing, etc.
This "conventional wisdom" tossed off so casually that "Trump asked Ukraine to investigate the Bidens" is a bald faced lie. Pure and simple.
We need to NEVER let this lie be passed off as "well known fact", because it IS A LIE.

LTC Vindman is s minor action officer period at NSC period . The fact his powerpoint bullet points for the President to use for the Ukrainian President phone call were ignored, which is, by the way, entirely the President's perogative as Commander in Chief. Vindman then stepped over the line by pushing to the CIA "whistleblower" and to Adam Schiff his "concerns" over being upset that his powerpoint bullet points were ignored instead of using his Chain of Command to his military boss about his concerns. Instead he bypassed his chain and went completely political to a Congressman with an axe to grind. Active Duty military have no business doing this ever! I think insubordination, prejudicial to good order and discipline, and conduct unbecoming an officer needs to be the first Article 32 charges at minimum. He needs a General Court Martial to send a message to the rest of the Officer Corps.

The biggest mistake that GOPs make upon taking office is not immediately purging every single appointed Democrat and transferring every single civil service Democrat to a remote outpost. And that includes military officers as well. The purge should begin during the transition. The incoming GOP office holder needs the help of intelligence to ferret out the spies and rats. Every government employee should have an accurate and up-to-date political dossier so their political ideology is transparent. There is no excuse for rats like Comey, McCabe, Brennan, the Vindmans and Ciaramella to be within 3,000 miles of the White House.
