The University of Michigan has placed its provost on leave after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him, the school has announced. Martin A. Philbert, who earns $570,340 a year, was placed on administrative leave on Tuesday, according to a letter from the university. Several allegations were made against the 57-year-old last Thursday and Friday, triggering an internal investigation of sexual misconduct by Philbert, says University President Mark S. Schlissel. Washington, DC, law firm WilmerHale, was then hired to lead the probe since Philbert, who is the school's executive vice president of academic affairs, is normally charged with conducting such investigations

It would be interesting to go back into his academic history and see if he profited from any sort of affirmative action, or if he genuinely earned all of his impressive degrees. As for the charges being brought against him, we'll have to wait and see. Sexual harassment charges aren't always legitimate, sometimes they are politically or personally motivated. This trial by media and social media, has got to stop.

So did the half-a-million bucks-a-year-Provost harass or had sexual misconduct with Ms. Obama? Otherwise, there's no relationship between one and the other. It's like the old "false cause-and-effect" story: Everyone who was alive in 1857 and ate carrots are now dead. Therefore, eating carrots causes death.

Did he make a habit of saying inappropriate things? That constitutes sexual harassment. Did he call female employees 'honey' or 'sweetie?' That constitutes sexual harassment. Did he adjust his 'guys' when he stood up, in front of female employees? That constitute sexual harassment. When he spoke with female employees, did he touch her hand or arm? That constitutes sexual harassment. Did he say 'you guys' when talking to women? That constitutes sexual harassment. Did he say 'you girls' or 'you ladies?' That constitutes sexual harassment. One of my final arbitration cases prior to retirement had to do with two women consultants and how a union employee, male, interacted with them. The women were hired to raise awareness of the union employees in dealing with women and minorities. Everything I listed above, in the eyes of the consultants, was, in their view, harassment. It was time for me to retire.

America’s taxpayers funded the purchase of cats from Chinese “wet markets” for medical research over the past 15 years, sustaining the very institutions that are now blamed for spreading the coronavirus in Wuhan. Researchers at the U.S. Agriculture Department paid for dozens of animals, then had them killed and fed their tongues, brains and other parts to other cats as part of medical studies, according to the White Coat Waste Project, which exposed the controversial work in a report last year. The Trump administration ended the cat projects in the wake of the report, and the 14 surviving kittens were adopted out.

Ivy League schools have been criticized for netting millions in taxpayer-funded coronavirus bailouts despite swimming in endowments worth billions. The country's most prestigious private universities including Harvard, Princeton and Yale are among the beneficiaries of Washington's $2trillion rescue package to keep businesses afloat during the epidemic. Higher education institutions have been apportioned $14billion of the aid provided under the CARES Act to weather the financial hits landed by the lockdown. Students have been sent home, and while many are taking classes remotely, the schools risk not collecting the totality of tuition fees. Of the top private schools, Cornell and Columbia will receive the most at $12.8million each.

Another substantiated complaint against the Border Patrol found that an agent had posted a picture and information about a pregnant woman online, violating the agency’s social media policy, the GAO said.
