A Hispanic police captain in Miami has been suspended for claiming he was a “black male” during a city commission meeting, department officials said.
Javier Ortiz was “relieved of duty with pay” on Wednesday pending an investigation, a police department spokesman confirmed to The Post. Ortiz, who previously oversaw the department’s SWAT operations, is expected to be off the force indefinitely, Deputy Police Chief Ronald Papier told the Miami Herald. Papier refused to indicate why Ortiz is being investigated, but the development follows Ortiz’s comments on Friday at a city commission meeting during which he claimed he was black instead of Hispanic while addressing allegations

He should have claimed he was a woman and used the women's bathroom.

I asked my boss to relieve me, indefinitely, with pay. He told me to pound sand.

I want to claim that I am one of my family’s pets, they’re living great lives and don’t have any obligations (other than not doing their thing in the house, not tearing things up, wagging their tails and not barking too much) and they don’t pay taxes.

I believe the 1drop rule originated in Florida as part of the Spanish class codes. It also showed up in New Orleans (Louisiana) under the same Spanish class codes.
Only his DNA knows for sure, but it can't be ruled out. BTW, the NAACP rejecting a fellow's authenticity because he's not dark enough is rather like the Navajo trying to throw out the African-American Cherokees because they aren't light enough.

It sounds like the guy is a piece of work, and had the nerve to play the Fauxcahontas card as well. He should have known that only works for liberals.

If his family origins are Cuban or Puerto Rican and so on, then chances are very good that he can claim black heritage. A lot of black slaves were imported from Africa to the Caribbean islands to work the big sugar plantations way back in the day. A prior comment made a great point. Light skinned blacks had a very hard time in their community simply because they were through no fault of their own, lighter skinned. Being accused of trying to pass for white was something those folks live with, and IMO it is a ridiculous slander.
The movie Showboat touched upon the 'one drop' issue regarding Ava Gardner's character. So don't be telling me that whites are the racists, for the minority communities practice plenty of it themselves.

I'm trying to figure out if he is just poking fun at an insane system, or whether he really thinks he is black?
This is what you get when you go of into insane Affirmative Action stupidity. And since guys can pretend to be women, why can't Hispanics pretend to be black? Once you leap off of the real world into the insane hall of mirrors of unreality.....why is ANY particular delusion off limits?

With so many Jokers in the Race Deck, it is possible to accidentally pull out the wrong one. So, does Black trump Hispanic? This is becoming a bizarre form of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

George Zimmerman was a 'White Hispanic' according to the Press.
So, maybe this guy is a 'Black Hispanic'?

Back around 1990, the Dean of the Ohio State University Law School, who was whiter than white, discovered that he had black relatives. At that point, he called himself black, and was all over the TV talk shows talking about it. And no one challenged him on his blackness.
In this case, the police union president says he does not know if the members will support the suspended officer.
I would tell them to look at a 1983 U.S. Supreme Court case, Bowen v. Postal Service, where Bowen, the grievant, had wrecked several postal trucks, and was finally terminated by the Postal Service. His union refused to go to arbitration, and the court ruled that the union should have gone to arbitration, and might have won there, so the union was liable for half of Bowen's back pay award.
Those of us who were arbitrators referred to Bowen as 'the full employment act for arbitrators.'

Lizzie the Cherokee should use this opportunity to boost her own argument. This guy does not have one black characteristic but there must have been some advantage behind his claim.

Who gets a bigger benefit ($) from the federal pie? White? Black? Hispanic?

Why can't he be both? Any hispanic can marry a black person as far as I know and some have so wouldn't their child be both? What kind of nonsense is this. He should sue.

He needs a lesson in Political Correctness. If he would have said, "I identify as a black man." It would have been cool.

This is hilarious! His claim forces them to deal with their immoral positions regarding race, who gets to claim victimhood, who gets special race points, and all the other evil nonsense that Leftists promote.

Hmmm, he doesn't look black to me...but then Fauxahauntus doesn't look Indian either, and Markle doesn't look black either...maybe he should get a DNA test to see if he's 1/1024th of anything....guess he's looking for an affirmative action promotion...

He should have claimed that he was 'transitioning' to being a Black Queer Female.
THAT would have put ALL the lefty pressure groups in his corner, and made him 'untouchable'.

Men who claim to be women compete against women in athletic events and win every time, and that's OK. Elizabeth Warren profited for years on her claim to be an American Indian, and is a leading candidate for the US presidency. One recent US pResident probably wasn't even a US citizen, for crying out loud, so why can't this man in this ridiculous society of our claim to be black or a little girl, if that's how he feels?
