Starbucks is launching a pivotal expansion of their community store initiative to add dozens of coffee shops to poor neighborhoods, the company revealed on Thursday. According to a press statement, the Seattle-based coffee chain plans to open or remodel 85 stores by 2025 in various rural and urban communities across the country. Each location will hire local staff, including construction crews and artists, and will have community event spaces. Starbucks has also partnered with United Way chapters to develop programs like youth training and mentoring.(Snip) John Kelly, executive vice president of Public Affairs, described the new move as a sort of civic duty.
I would recommend short selling Starbux if you have any.

Poor people paying $2.75 for a cup of coffee when McDonalds sells it for $1 is not helpful.
Liberals are just stupid.

"so woke they don't mind going broke" is the motto for the progressives.
Thanks to the poster above for a good motto.

So now we are going to have socialized coffee shops. Serves the people right that are crazy enough to pay $8.00 for a cup of coffee

This will either being an unmitigated economic disaster or Starbucks will be accused of gentrification and putting "minority owned" stores out of business, in which case it will be an unmitigated economic disaster.

So are they going to profile their customers? I mean, how else are they going to stop the regular $8-coffee-idiots from simply driving to the mearest "poor coffee house" and paying $2.75 instead?

It's easy to be cynical about this, given Starbuck's virtue-signaling track record. But It's a private business, and I would much rather see private individuals and companies take the initiative in their communities rather than having the government do it, and do it badly. We will see what happens. Private and faith-based orgs typically do a lot more for less than the government, primarily because they are willing to set standards for behavior and accountability, whereas govt just hands it out, and if anyone tries to impose any conditions, they get a judge to overrule.

1. He calls it a sort of civic duty. I call it a publicity stunt.
2. Will cops be welcome there? I suspect they will be there on business a lot.

They will get robbed blind by shoplifters and armed robbers, and be out of business within 6 months.
But Starbucks will get to claim that they are so "woke" for having "tried" to help!!!!

Good intentions count for everything with liberals. Unless they're going to build walk-up/carry-out stores, most of the shops will be full of the homeless in short order - shelter from the elements and free bathrooms.

LOL! McD's is $1 for a small coffee, $1.50 for a medium. Their fancy coffee's are about what Starbucks plans for their cheapo versions. I think their senior coffee is even cheaper.
I spit on Starbucks, and eat in McD's when in a hurry. I don't drink coffee, but several coffee aficianado friends say McD's coffee is good stuff.

Poor people don't drink poo-poo coffee! Does that sound stupid? Well, so does this idea. Do you think Apple will set up stores in poor hoods, and sell MacBook Pros for $100 as a civic duty?

As long as they allow anyone to use their bathrooms, and maybe put used syringe disposal containers in there and give free coffee to the homeless, it might help.

If Starbucks can have lower prices for some stores, why not just lower the prices for all the stores. (Isn't it racist to do otherwise?)

So it is sort of like when they ask if you would like to donate to the food bank at the check out at the grocery store....but starbucks is not asking your permission.

Did they not see the result of Panera's pay what you want to business model? Maybe they just need the tax write off. I'm sure the poor will be lining up to pay $2.25 for a cup of coffee. You can get one at an AA meeting for half a buck if you've got it.

Well bless their little empty space between their ears.
That means by 2025 there will be 1.6 Starbucks in every state if they are fair and believe in equal rights for all. Otherwise it proves Starbucks is just hustlers playing the divide and conquer game with the American people.
Everybody who partakes of Starbucks, of which I am not one for I am not a fool, should, if there is 1.7 stores in your area say within 50 miles, you should put on some everyday old clothes each day and partake of their $2,25 deal. Then proceed to work or wherever.

Let me say how this will work: The rest of the country will pay $6.00 for their latte to cover the shortfall for the poor customer Starbuck's. Pretty soon Starbucks you will run out of other peoples money. Socialism doesn't work--put Starbuck's on the downward course to bankruptcy--they deserve it.

Several years ago, a big grocery store and a Walgreens went up in a very lower class neighborhood that I drive through. I was happy to see that as low income areas are often grocery store deserts. Both stores are doing well and that is what the neighborhood needed! Not so sure about subsidized fancy coffees.

They either take EBT, or they want to encourage The Poor to waste what money they otherwise have on luxury coffee products. Neither is desirable, yet they congratulate their progressivism. Glad I don't have any investment in this company, so woke they don't mind going broke.
