The number one story in the news in Great Britain (and a major story around the world) is the apparent abandonment of the Royal Family by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, better known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The story obviously has a strong personal element, but it also strikes me as emblematic of our time.
The British monarchy is not just ancient, but profoundly old-fashioned. It is founded on a concept of duty, exemplified by Queen Elizabeth II, that is utterly at odds with the 21st century. Being a Royal is a great job, most would say, but it inherently involves sacrifice.

So Meghan is moving to LA in 2025. Where is Harry planning to live?

Another example of liberalism destroying whatever it touches. Clearly, Meghan is most likely not the only royal with progressive views. You have only to look no further than her FIL. However, he has the good sense to honor tradition and keep his mouth shut for the most part. I do believe he will go all in once he ascends to the throne. Even then, I believe he will protect the monarchy. Meghan, on the other hand, will tear it down if she is able. Progressives would not protect anything but their insane and radical ideology. It is their religion and they are zealots committed to its dogma.
Many people pooh pooh the interest in this break from the royal family because they believe it is of no consequence to them. While it may never affect their lives, it is another tearing down of traditional norms which is always a good thing to the left. The more the left can destroy, the better they like it. It is a great show of strength when they are able to strike at the heart of tradition.
Prince Harry seemed to be settling into his role and doing a very good job of it. He was terribly close to his family and had found his stride. He was the warm, caring, approachable young royal much like his mother who gave his time to many charities while William has always seemed to be stand-offish and more like his father. He could have been and done much for his country. Now, that all has changed since he got involved with Meghan. He is leaving his heritage behind to cash in only as Hollywood can and move on. Sadly, this decision will come back to haunt him because his ties to his family are stronger than he believes they are right now. He has allowed his wife to influence him to make this monumental decision to make this break, deprive his son of his birthright, and gravely damage the monarchy. This is a wound that will not heal because Ms. Markle will make sure she keeps their faces in the spotlight more than ever. She may indicate that she wants to avoid the fishbowl that is the royal life, but she has, I believe, purposefully thrown them into the world of the paparazzi driven media because she can make a buck from it and rub the monarchy’s nose in it. I do not see this ending well.

The obvious solution to this mess is for Harry to admit he made a mistake and kick Ms. Markle to the curb. That won't happen anytime soon as he won't want to admit he chose poorly and in haste. It is just a matter of time before he does, though. There's only so much abuse someone can take.

Now that I know Yoko Simpson is a big fan of Hildebeast and worse yet taking advice from the most incompetent politician in American history (and that is one of her positive credentials), the American social climbing Duchess is sure to fail. Divorce, ugly custody battle, tell all with BFF Oprah will not bring down the royal family. Not with William and Kate and the helm. Harry will come crawling back across the pond and marry a proper British girl and Yoko Simpson will shut her mouth for enough cash. The story is as old as the monarchy itself.

Because Harry is still in Lust with Meghan, he will choose her over his family. But the day will come when he will see her for what she is. She is a Low Class Gold Digger. She manages to pull the wool over on Harry, but he will see through it as time goes on. When that happens, the really big problem will be who gets custody of Archie. He was born in England, to the Royal Family. I would bet Harry would get custody of that child for that reason. It will be interesting to see that play out! I also believe OP was right on target when she said Meghan was like Yoko Ono!

This explains why Meghan wanted to get pregnant so quickly. She is blatantly using her child as leverage. She is the daughter in law and grand daughter in law from hell.
I suspect the monarchy will do the painful and necessary thing, boot them out and cut them off. There is no other way to deal with someone like Meghan. Otherwise, as Meghan does ugly stuff the monarchy will be pulled into it. Over and over again. Kicking them out and defunding them pushes them out of the royal circle. It's a hard thing to do but necessary.

The writers for that royal family Netflix comedy documentary, "The Windsors", will have such an easy time documenting the next season. Will Camilla and Charles blackmail Meghan and Harry into cracking on with the rigors of royalty? Stay tuned.

The British form of government has the monarch who is head of state and the prime minister who is head of government. Maybe it is time for those that are further removed from the line of succession to be released from royal duties. The problem is then they are not under the control of the monarch and that can result in difficulties for the reputation of the royal family. A good reputation is needed to be head of state who really serves as a role model.
I often think it would help the US if we had a head of state who would handle all the ceremonial functions and the president would be the head of state and his/her character would not be such a big issue in an election. I guess some would say the vice president handles some of the ceremonial functions.

Royal bashers of the media world wide are trying to have it both ways IMO. Slamming royals as leeches and telling them to get a job, then when they try to make that move, they get slammed again for trying to do that. Which is it media? Let them alone, wasn't hounding his parents into divorce enough for you people?

Watched ex Brit Stuart Varney on Fox this a.m. saying he sided with Meghen et al. and her love of freedom. What nonsense: this was an adult woman who knew, or SHOULD have known, what signing on with the Firm was about, and who now will cash in monetarily big time along with her besotted husband, perhaps talking with the great and glorious Oprah and speaking to Elton John before they spoke to the Queen. Let them go, don't watch their nonsense on Netflix and/or with Bob Iger, and most of all, conjure the scorn necessary in looking at a couple who don't want to put in the time, do the work, etc. but who have a site/brand called RoyalSussex..........reaping all the benefits while scorning the source. What total hypocrites, and this from someone who was a loyal "Suits" fan. And as to them doing a tell all re": the royal family, THAT should be received with total disgust. WHAT A PAIR!

Hinderaker writes his usually reasoned article - this time on Yoko Simpson. It is a good one.
Those who feel a need to slam those who think she and Harry are trying to pull a fast one - now we are called “you people” - should move on to other threads instead of spamming these with the tripe about “they just want to earn a living”. As my Brit friends would say, “Rubbish”.
Yoko has always been about climbing and fame and money and she appears to have darned well pulled it off. For now. But some of us believe she is headed for a fall. She is not a bit like Diana, who was the soul of grace. Yoko is common with a capital C. Her avarice is stunning. Harry will pay for this folly.

Now we see what a woman does to Harry.
Women can make or break a man, no doubt of that.

Interesting times we live in. Outsiders having the most effect on traditional institutions. 2 popes ( francis is a communist, and seems to against everything the church is for, Benedict is alive).........a non politician becomes a Great president and is vilified for doing so well by the professional politicians and a non English commoner that married into the royal family not wanting the responsibilities of being a royal while perfectly willing to make money off of being a royal.

Re #14, Stuart lives in a glass house, having had a 9 year affair while still married. When his wife filed for divorce, he said that he didn’t love the mistress he’d spent great amounts of money on, traveled with. He said he didn’t love the mistress; had just cheated because he could. Apparently that killed the affair because he is still married.

I honestly don't care at all about M & H and could care less --- if I tried --- about the Brit monarchy. However, I agree with a previous poster that it is sad to see the Left get another victory of destroying a piece of history worth keeping, even if at a much less costly level than currently.
I'd hate to see the British throne trashed the same way I don't want to see Confederate statues taken down. And I'm a Yankee. They are destroying links to the past by doing that.

I think the meaning of the Royal Family to the people of the United Kingdom is more significant than we Americans understand. The Royals represent at least a 1,000-year history of a nation and its influence on the world. If you don't like them, that's fine. But I have lived in a Commonwealth country (Papua New Guinea, where Queen Elizabeth is head of state). The Commonwealth connection has meaning to the nations that belong to it. And the common bond is the Sovereign. The Queen is the head of the Church of England, which is the mother church of self-governing churches in the Anglican Communion, which spans the globe. There is more at stake in the British Crown than many republicans (lower-case r) give credit.

The statement from The Queen was, as expected, very diplomatic. I was sure it was going to be like that. It will be a period of "transition" so the public cools off. The behind the scenes "transition" means they will work out the legal, financial, properties, titles and other implications before it is announced that Harry decided that "he cannot commute any longer and will stay in whatever place he decides to park his sorry decisions". Problem solved. Remember that when Charles and Diana called it quits, it was a period of "transition", whereas they were working out the details of the divorce without the press whores parked in the front gate. Now we also know that all the pretty English Roses girlfriends were correct when they said "thanks, but no thanks". It looks that Harry has psychological problems and I wouldn't pass that, after he realizes that he'd been had, would kill himself.
