Feminism is a social and political movement. It is not an academic discipline on par with, say, mathematics, economics, business administration, engineering or physics. Gender studies, feminism’s academic wing, does not constitute an appropriate subject for an academic degree. (Snip) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Fidesz Party have passed legislation to abolish Gender Studies as an area of official study. Hungary’s Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen has stated that such programs “ha[ve] no business in universities” as they represent “an ideology, not a science,”

This is indeed "refreshing" - - but - - it would be even more refreshing if Hungary had declared that no government anywhere has any business owning or operating schools of any kind.
Yes - - that would really "refresh" me.

Between this and taking on George Soros single-handed, I must say this man is one of THE bravest and most righteous among world leaders today. Orban is like the medieval prince fighting the wicked dragon and never flinching. We need leaders like him in this country.

Journalism degrees should be the next to be eliminated. That is not an academic endeavor. Anyone can be a journalist if they can read and write. They can have journalism schools, like they have acting schools or dancing schools. No minimum intellectual requirements, just pay your money.

I would be more impressed with Hungary if they demanded the return of Soros to stand trial for his war crimes during WWII. He collaborated with the nazis and built his fortune on their bodies. He may have only been a teen, but he knew enough about right and wrong, and he chose wrong.

Not just "gender studies" needs to go. The rot is wide and deep.
Near me is a state university that not only has a degree program in "General Studies", but another one in (I believe) "Hospitality Studies". I gather that it equips one to be the night manager at a Motel 6 or the like. But it does much less harm than the Gender Studies or other dens of SJW idiocies. Then again, is it much worse than the jokes of "Underwater Basket Weaving" for illiterate Division 1 football or basketball players?

Bigger picture...
Western countries desperately needed, and continue to need,
something, anything, to mask the loss of jobs
to third world slave labor farms
in the name of free trade.
That's all grievance studies are.

As with all other "causes," the feminist movement has attracted attention by the top dogs placing women in categories and beginning their scolding lessons with "all women" or "all men." Some people are perfectly happy doing the things that have been assigned to husbands and wives for hundreds of years. Just because they say that every woman is talented, ambitious and independent does not make it so.
As usual, those of either sex who possess great talent will rise the top by actually being superior. Others will only make fools of themselves by screaming about such things as glass ceilings and wearing pink pussy hats. There are real, actual women who have risen to the top and created empires or honorable reputations. They did not do it by marching while carrying signs.

#14 that reminds me of the scandal that hit the University of Georgia a good many years ago. One of the courses offered to help keep the dumb jocks eligible was something called 'Strategies of Basketball" taught by the son's coach. One of the questions in the final exam was 'How many points does a 3-point field goal account for in a Basketball Game?'.
Everybody got an 'A' even the ones who didn't show up for class. We Ga Tech fans got a good laugh out of this part of the curriculum.

What does a degree in Gender Studies qualify you to do for employment? Outside of being a professional Protester.

I guarantee you that just about every Starbucks barista went to college and spent over $100K on a worthless degree in some type of "Studies" that now qualifies them to do nothing more than write leftist slogans on people's drink cups. Not only should these junk-social studies programs be banned, universities should be sued out of existence for duping gullible students into persuing those degrees, Americans would be bettered served by less people in college getting brainwashed by agenda-driven leftist professors and more people in apprenticeships and vocational schools learning an employable trade. And I don't mean coding, either.

Why can’t we be more like Hungary? Take a hint from this, Mr. President. (The author is rather long winded, but it’s well worth a read.)
