Los Angeles Times television critic Lorraine Ali penned a disapproving opinion-editorial slamming Golden Globe host Ricky Gervais for roasting Hollywood elites on Sunday evening.According to Ali, Gervais’s roasting of A-list celebrities felt unoriginal because his searing jokes pointed at the award show’s attendees were expected, which immediately canceled any possibility that he would be the evening’s “funniest guy in the room.” She also lashed at the comic for calling on award-winners to avoid politics while Congress weighs impeachment and Iran is threatening retaliation for the death of top general Qasem Soleimani.

I heard/saw just a short clip this morning. He sounded pretty sensible to me. Their political posturing has killed the movies and television along with killing any viewing audience for their self-congratulatory award ceremonies. We’re not militant toward them. Just yawning. And staying away. Passive aggression...

Priceless. This foreigner is more "heartland America" than these Hollywood types will ever be. It was time someone Schiffed on these pretentious bozos. Believe it or not if no one ever made a movie, or a record or did a play we would survive, actually thrive and not miss any of you one bit. You are over paid unimportant people. I don't want you to shut up and sing I just want you to shut up and leave me alone.

I thought he was right on target. The audience needed to hear what he said, but obviously didn't.

Nope, he got it dead right.
And in the LAT, they are so tone deaf that they can't hear it.

Quoting Ms Ali: But at the Beverly Hilton, where the three-hour-plus ceremony took place, the mood was already sober thanks to an impeachment, the threat of war with Iran and devastating bush fires in Australia.
The last thing anyone needed was for the smirking master of ceremonies to reprimand them for having hope, or taunt the room for trying to use their influence to change things for the better.
Ms Ali, there was NOTHING sober about that gathering. Not one of those A-listers actually gives a flying !@#$! about impeachment, war, or especially Australian bush fires. They care about publicity, marketability, getting paid, getting paid, recognition, and oh yeah, getting paid. You and the rest of your ilk live in a bubble, a fantasy-world where you actually believe your opinions mean more than anyone else's. You are WRONG. Ricky Gervais is absolutely right to poiint out that hypocrites have no business lecturing others about morality. And neither do you, you poor deluded soul who so desperately wants to BE a celebrity but has to settle for living vicariously thru them. I only wish that Ricky went after that ninny DeNIro, who lost his marbles some time ago but no one has the heart to tell him to shut up.

I believe the British call it "gobsmacked" or something like that. There were enough snowflakes in that room he could have snow-skied.

Fascists are notoriously humor-impaired. They are completely unaware of how ridiculous their sanctimonious pronouncements appear to the hoi polloi (whom they despise).

Sorry, but the LA Times is the deaf one. The LA TImes apparently is too arrogant to believe that anything that Ricky Gervais said last night might possibly be true. In LA LA Land they are in their own insulated world, oblivious to the real world and how things really are for "the little people". Hollywood and the people at the LA Times are exactly who Gervais was targeting last night. He hit a bulls eye! Hollywood, the LA Times, and other leftists are just too in love with themselves and their little world to comprehend that what he said is true.

LOL of course the non actor thinks any of the A listed actors cared more about some fires in OZ or the endless impeachment circus, than face time on TV or the ultimate prize of one of the AWARDS. What a self important fool. The attendees didn't even care what Ricky said. He didn't single many if any out by name he used generalities for the whole room. Of course most of them thought he was talking about someone else, but the important thing is, how did they look on camera?
The only thing worse than a 'famous' actor blabbing about serious subjects is some half with entertainment critic making judgements about anything. If you care what a TV critic thinks, you really need to examine your info sources.
