In an effort to further capture his base, the president will be launching the “Evangelicals for Trump” coalition in Miami, Florida, on January 3.“The Trump campaign’s launch of ‘Evangelicals for Trump’ will be held at a Florida megachurch with a capacity of 7,000 congregants, the campaign said Friday,” reports The Washington Times. “The outreach event for a key part of the president’s base will be held next Friday in Miami at El Rey Jesus, or King Jesus International Ministry.”Though the Trump campaign previously pledged to launch the coalition, the gesture to hold the president’s base comes on the heels of Christianity Today publishing an op-ed

I might be tempted to join an "Evangelicals against whatever Democrat is Running" coalition. Evangelicals for Trump? Not so sure.

I’m a Christian. Not an evangelical. I do not need to be part of any group. I will vote for Trump because he is the best and only choice for POTUS, regardless of any affiliation I may have.

#2- Evangelicals are Christians. Evangelicals believe in Jesus Christ and His teachings, especially the New Testament. The “distinction” attributed to Evangelicals is that Evangelicals emphasize the teachings and authority of Scripture “in opposition to the institutional authority of the church itself.”

With respect, # 4; I did not say that evangelicals are not Christians. There are many believers who do not follow evangelicalism, which is generally associated with charismatics, Arminians, Pentecostals, and so on. Paul talks about such divisions within the church in his letter to Philippians 1:15-18. I take issue with the pervasive arrogance that only evangelicals are the true believers. Anyway, I say voting for Trump is the Christian thing to do, regardless of what the editors of Christianity Today think.

#5- Understood and appreciated. Some evangelical denominations exist within some mainline protestant churches: Anglican, Baptist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian.
Being unaware of “the pervasive arrogance that only evangelicals are the true believers,” would suggest that typical, uninformed, media-hype may be a contributing factor to that mischaracterization of evangelicals and salvation. In complete agreement that voting for President Trump’s reelection is the Christian/Evangelical thing to do, and that the editorial published in Christianity Today should be disregarded and dismissed for what it is, misguided and shamefully judgmental.

I am just one more Catholic kicked around by Peronist Pope Francis and therefore pleased to vote in lockstep with the Evangelicals because President Donald Trump has been sent to all of US by God. Thank you for your mercy Heavenly Father, we will not waste this last chance you have allowed
US.

When I look at the morality of the "Never Trumpers," I find President Trump has higher standards of morality.

The term evangel (and similar words derived from it) fell into disuse about 10 to 20 years after the Great Awakening of the 1900's. People shunned what they called those ''Holy Rollers'' who were exhibiting unseemly (for the time) behaviors.

If you define Evangelical as bible believing, conversion through Christ, witnessing to people about that conversion and belonging to a church of people who likewise meet this description, can you then be a Christian without being an Evangelical? Sounds to me like the term itself has been cooped a bit. I say this as a point of distinction, not to file anyone up.

I remember how my grandmother, a devout Catholic was so inspired by Billy Graham, the most famous of Evangelicals. Back in the 50's he captured the attention of all Christians, Catholics included. He spoke to all of us as a family. There was no division or bias. He was a disciple of the Lord and a Christian voice for everyone.

As a kid, I was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. I never spend any time checking to see if my religious preferences line up with others around me before deciding if they are "right" for me. I keep things between me and the Heavenly Father.
I'm good with the President launching the Evangelicals for Trump coalition. The coalition is willing to view the President's role as a world leader and doesn't have the need to scrutinize what he does with his time on Sunday morning. Nor the does the President mandate that the coalition align to his beliefs. It's that separation of church and state thing that comes to mind. At the end of the day, the President is simply asking for their vote. How simple, but, CT couldn't be bothered to keep religion and politics separated.

I am not an evangelical. Whatever that term means. I am a Christian. God gave only one Apostle the opportunity to believe like myself and everyone today. Only one. And he refused. His Name was Thomas.
Everyone had seen the glorified Son of God. They told Thomas, he refused to believe the Gospel Message of Christ. For us, that is our only hope to believe the Gospel Message. Doubting Thomas refused, unless he had a fleshly experience with the Christ who is Yeshua Hai Machicaih.....the annointed Saviour.

#13- Although not a theologian, do believe that people can be a Christian without being an Evangelical. Evangelicals oppose ritualism and modernism; they believe in the infallibility of the Bible and salvation by faith in Jesus alone; doctrine.
#17- “Whatever that term (evangelical) means.” That term “evangelical” comes from the Greek euangelion and Latin evangelium, words for “good news” that evolved into the word “gospel.” Evangelical is not a term or denomination to be denigrated.
Jesus came and stood before all the Apostles/Disciples in the locked room; Thomas was not with them when Jesus came. Thomas did express his skepticism but eight days later, Jesus again appeared before them in the locked room. When Thomas saw and touched Jesus, he said, “My Lord and my God!” To suggest that Thomas “refused” to “believe the Gospel Message of Christ” is inaccurate; Thomas’ anguish over the death of Jesus likely caused him to be dubious, a normal human reaction. It was Thomas who “made the first public profession of Jesus as being both Lord and God.”
