The year in movies was like the ultimate Mom Facebook Page.
So many reunions. So many updates on friends from long ago, so many surprising next chapters in so many lives — and so many heartfelt goodbyes to loved ones who passed away.
From “Avengers: Endgame” to “Toy Story 4,” from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” to “Mary Poppins Returns,” from “Frozen II” to “It Chapter Two,” from the “Downton Abbey” movie to “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum,” from “Terminator: Dark Fate” to “Rambo: Last Blood” to “Glass” — the 2019 BSU (Big Screen Universe) was dominated by sequels and reboots and spinoffs and curtain calls.

"Ford Versus Ferrari" is a wonderful movie; positive and uplifting, with fine acting, a great story, and dashes of humor. It's NOT "just a car guy movie"; it's far more than that. Go see it. 😊

1) Irishman: fat chance with Deniro in it.
2) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: fat chance with Tarantino directing it
3) The Farewell: sounds depressing but may chance it when it's free
4) Uncut Gens: looking forward to seeing Sandler in a good role
5) Waves: sounds depressing
6) Booksmart: message to teens: stop studying and have fun!
7) Fast Color: black female empowerment
8) Little Women: hasn't this been already made into a movie several times?
9) Parasite: may take a chance on it when it's on Vudu
10) Queen and Slim: you've got to be kidding
No Apollo 11, Knives Out, Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Ford Vs Ferrari, or even my personal favorite John Wick 3..

No mention of “Joker,” no “Ford v. Ferrari,” and he loved man-hating “Captain Marvel.”
This guy has soy-boy written all over him.

Another "movie critic" who sucks worse than the films he reviews.

Sorry to rain on your parade, Richard, but, I didn't lift a finger to help Hollywood this year.

Disclaimer: not a movie-goer, nor TV movies; I watch over-the-air old shows like Hill Street Blues.
However, when I see something like this headline, that contains "movies" and "Sun-Times", I immediately think of Gene and Roger. RIP guys.

A list of sequals and garbage. I was tempted by "Ford Versus Ferrari" but the movie sounds nothing like the real story, which was hatred and fierce competition and Ford wanting to punish Ferrari because they refused a buyout offer that was insulting. Ironically, the Ford GT-40 was a winning car but it was the first and last superior car that Ford ever built. They have successfully retained their image for the past 50 years as your Grandfather's car.

Only 2019 movie I plan to see is Richard Jewell. And only then when it is on DVD or the cable.

The real story behind 'Ford vs Ferrari' is the excellent documentary by Adam Corolla and Nate Adams 'Shelby American'. On Netflix now.

Downton Abbey was the first movie I saw in a theater since American Sniper. Can’t wait for it to come out on DVD. (Unless it already has - will have to check)

I saw one. I'll see the Irishman when I get the chance to do so. They don't make films the way they used to, so I don't go the way I used to. I suspect this is a very common experience.

Go see Richard Jewell if you haven't already. Really well done. It tells the story exactly as it happened, despite negative media reaction (they are especially appalled at the accurate portrayal of the media as vultures in this instance). Roeper gave it a good review, but probably left it off the list because of political correctness.

The replies on this thread have helped me to make a list of 2019 movies to stream and the ones to avoid when they are available. Thanks guys.

Ford v. Ferrari had me so involved that I did not check the time until an hour and a half in. My usual is 45 minutes, less if a movie turns out to be uninteresting to me (which is just personal taste -- car chases bore me, for example :-) ).
For Reply #9, it's true that hatred was not featured as the main theme, but the rivalry was certainly not overlooked. Corporate bureaucrats were harder hit. The movie is well worth seeing.
We streamed Downton Abbey yesterday and enjoyed it. I think it may become one of the movies we add to the Christmas season's list.

Not watching any of it. 2020, another year I'm avoiding the movie theater. That makes 5 years in a row, and I'm a better man now.

You couldn't pay be to buy a theater ticket. I have entertainment options that don't include lining the pockets of Hollywood commies.

My sister saw The Joker and Ford vs Ferrari and loved both. She was still raving about them on Christmas.
