Pastor Darrell Scott ridiculed Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s Christmas greeting as a “load of crap” on Wednesday after the South Bend mayor claimed Jesus came to earth as a refugee.
“Today I join millions around the world in celebrating the arrival of divinity on earth, who came into this world not in riches but in poverty, not as a citizen but as a refugee,” .(Snip) Pastor Darrell Scott, a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump pointed out that Jesus was not a “refugee” who came to earth from heaven.
(Snip) “Joseph was NOT a poor man, and Jesus did NOT come into this world as a refugee from heaven. Please stop.”

Actually, Jesus was a provincial Roman citizen.

Actually, Jesus is GOD, and as part of the Trinity, He is the Creator of ALL things, including the world, so upon entering His own creation as God incarnate, there's no way He could ever be considered a "refugee" (except by an idiot like Butt-what's-his-name).

He didn't say anything different than what the Cardinal of New York, Timothy Dolan said yesterday. That Mary and Joseph were homeless refugees. You just have to wonder about these supposedly learned men. (not counting Buttigieg as 'learned'). Some years ago at a Boy Scout Eagle court of honor the priest at our parish gave a talk about how Chief Seattle was on a train in the plains and was 'aghast' at the slaughter of all the buffalo. I'm was sitting there just shaking my head. Chief Sealth never left the Pacific NW. and he was reading a fake story some newspaper man had printed over a hundred years ago and I couldn't believe how stupid the priest was for falling for a lie.

But it fit his tiny little liberal worldview! Jesus was born in a manger because a Census had been ordered by big government and Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem! Jesus is the Creator of all things! Yet He came down to live with His creation and die for their sins to redeem them! And if Jesus was so poor, why did the Romans cast lots for His clothes at the cross? It wasn’t because He was famous like a celebrity today! Buggery to the Mayor!

Also, by the time the wise men arrived, they were living in a house. The manger was temporary, and Joseph either bought or built the house, suggesting that he was not without means.
“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew 2)

#3, i'm not a Catholic, but I used to like Cardinal Dolan... until he could not get up the courage to condemn the NY legislation green-lighting the "right" to kill a baby up until the last second, even born alive. I lost any respect for him.
Now this. Anyone who has read the "Christmas Story" in t he Gospels knows that the reason the Holy Family was on the road was TO COMPLY WITH the Roman law requiring registration for the census. It is true that some time later, when Herod was lashing out and slaughtering baby boys, Jesus' parents had been warned to go to Egypt until Herod died. THEN, the family returned to Nazareth.
Is anyone really surprised that Buttie and those on the Left would be applying revisionist sentimentalities to suit themselves? tiresome boobies

Pastor: “When did you come up with THAT load of crap?”
"Buttigieg later reshared a more meaningful Christmas message from his husband Chasten."
When he fake got married, that's when.

To add to #6, the reason that the Romans were conducting a census was so that the people of Israel could be forced to pay TAXES!
The opening of the Nativity story begins with these words - The word went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

When Jesus was presented at the temple (Luke 2:22-24), Joseph and Mary brought either two turtledoves or two pigeons for the sacrifice (as indicated by the text), not a lamb. The Law allowed for the sacrifice of “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons" instead of a lamb in cases of extreme poverty (Lev. 14:21-22, "also two turtledoves or two pigeons, whichever he can afford"), thus ensuring that even the poorest could fulfill the sacrificial requirement. Joseph and Mary were devout Jews who obeyed the Law, and they would have brought a lamb had they been able to afford one. The fact that they did not bring a lamb tells us they were poor.

#11: When Joseph and Mary went to the temple to present Jesus, they presented a "lamb" alright, but He wasn't sacrificed until 33 years later! (And, yes, I understand your point--they weren't rich, but they certainly weren't refugees, either.)

The Holy Family spent a night in the stable / shed where travelers kept their animals overnight. The scripture refers to them being in a house when the Magi came.
The family is portrayed as faithful to Jewish life and in the context of the Roman occupation were not rebels. So in both ways they were citizens.
The context where Buttkrieg's statements find any basis is during the family's early exile into Egypt - to escape Herod's hunt for the baby whom the Magi referred to as the newly born king of the Jews. The Gospel refers to their return to their home after that Herod's death.

Par for the course. Many rats don't respect the trades. They have no idea what a Carpenter does. They only complain about the rates they charge, but they happily pay it since they would only hurt themselves if they tried to use a hammer or saw.

Poor Petey never learned the Bible story about Joseph and Mary traveling to Bethlehem to be counted. There was no room in the inn, so they were put up in a stable. Not refugees.
