President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing up whether to skip the 2020 general election debates because he doesn't trust the commission that runs them.Trump has been speaking to his advisers about whether he should participate and go up against a Democrat in the debates next year, two sources told the New York Times. He has told his advisers he doesn't trust the Commission on Presidential Debates, according to the sources.(Photos) Trump is also reportedly apprehensive about who will be chosen to moderate the debates. His advisers would not comment on the possibility that Trump may not participate in the debates.

Those debates are fixed. He is smart not to trust the commission. I think having the questions in advance (for both candidates, Hillary) is the way to go. In this way, we could get a clear delineation of views.

He should do for the debates what he did to the WH Correspondents' Dinner.

Perfect. He doesn't need to attend.
I love it.

I think that the President should keep his options open. I would love to see him go toe to toe with Biden, Warren, or Sanders, but there’s no reason why he has to do it. However, in the unlikely case that Hillary is the Democrat candidate again, I think he’ll need to debate her.

He's just setting the media up for another spanking, Complain in advance about unfairness/fake news, etc. then when they can't help themselves and do what they always do, he calls them on it.

Ooooo.....
So, the New York Times has TWO un-named sources this time.
That's twice the un-named sources they usually have.
So, should we trust them this time?
Nope, don't think so.

Good idea. The debates will be a rehashing off the Impeachment, Mueller, Stormy Stormy Stormy, and every other fake issue he has been hounded with since his election.

Have your own debate with a trusted news source as the questioner. All the Commission on Presidential Debates will do is have someone like Maddow moderate and secretly give all the questions to the Rat nominee beforehand so they can study up and memorize the answers.

I hope he does skip them.
"Mr. Biden, what's your favorite color?"
"Blue!" (Standing ovation)
"President Trump, when did you stop beating your wife?"

I disagree. The optics of not showing up will hurt him with independents who will famously sit on the sidelines until inside the voting booth. He does, however, need to better control the debate environment - moderator, questions, etc. He should not have to tolerate openly partisan moderators. I like the idea of both candidates knowing the questions in advance.

Have a massive rally on the same night!
Trump doesn’t need the media - they need him.
Course I did enjoy the Megyn Kelly exploding cigar. Good times.

Trump does not need the debates. There can't be many people in the country that have not already decided how they are going to vote in 2020. Please do not give the Democrats a stage that they desperately need. Forget about the debates. Trump gets his message out every day and does not need the debates.

Does President Trump strike anyone as being "apprehensive" of any of the lightweights currently running for the Democrat nomination? This story sounds like BS to me for that reason alone.

LBJ refused to debate Goldwater. Nixon and Humphry refused to debate each other. Nixon did not debate McGovern.
The worst incident, in my opinion, (which I continue to value highly) was the 1992 debates, Bush 41 and Dollar Bill Clinton.
Bush was asked a nonsensical question by a black teenaged girl - she had no clue what her question meant. It had to do with the national debt, but she was confused.
Bush made the mistake of glancing at his watch. Dollar Bill Clinton quickly fashioned an answer that had nothing to do with the question.
Thus ended the presidency of George H.W. Bush.
Lady Lucifer, in 2016, stepped in front of DJT, wh0op stood at his podium, and later claimed that he was menacing her.
DJT will be smarter this time around.

The Democrats refuse to debate on Fox and want the venue to be hosted by CNN/MSNBC. You might as well let it be hosted in the house of representatives with Schiff and Nadler as the 'moderators'. I can just hear the commentators now saying that PDT is not recognized to speak, that questions not favoring Democrats are not allowed, and that he has to submit his tax and accountant records for every year since he started filing.

Now THERE'S an idea. Let's give this some thought and consideration.

Depends of if he can work a deal. But since they are most likely to be fixed, and we pretty much will vote for Trump or a ham sandwich before any democrat, he can skip the debates all he wants to. Or try for a debate between himself and the eventual candidate, one on one, without the interference of the corrupt commission.

Excellent move. They aren't debates anyway. They are gotcha sessions run by Fake News radicals. The Corporate Propaganda Machine does not deserve an opportunity to waste President Trump's valuable time.
