The Saudi military student who killed three and injured 12 when he opened fire at Navy Station Pensacola on Friday used a loophole in the law to purchase the handgun he used in the attack. Mohammed Saeed al-Shamrani, 21, bought the firearm legally from a store in Pensacola by providing the business owner with his hunting license, sources told NBC on Saturday. Non-citizens are prevented from buying firearms, unless they are in possession of such a license. The New York Times has reported the handgun as being a Glock 45 9-millimeter with an extended magazine.

The law is clear, with a hunting license, a non-immigrant alien holding a non-immigrant visa can purchase a gun.
I am not sure this is a loophole. Many people come to the USA to hunt, and purchase a gun, ammo and a hunting license for those purposes.
Are there any out there who imagine that he couldn't have purchased a stolen or other gun "on the street" REGARDLESS of how many laws might have been broken?
Only the law abiding are deterred by laws. Terrorists and criminals will get weapons, ALWAYS.
I'm sure the Brits are triggered by this. I am not. He would have gotten it some other way if this route were closed to him.
Focus on the criminal, not the tools he uses.

A foreigner from the ME here for naval flight training is issued a hunting license, then allowed to purchase a 9mm handgun? That doesn't raise any questions? That and in Florida where the Saudis prepared for 911? Good grief! We have no protections. All the authorities do nothing but try and entrap Trump, nothing else.

Too bad the base was a gun free zone. If someone has been carrying, it would’ve ended sooner...

Non-citizen alien legal immigrants (Green card holders) can legally purchase and own firearms in the USA. Non-citizen non-immigrants, who are aliens who have entered the USA on temporary visas, as this Saudi military officer would have done, are prohibited from purchasing and owning firearms while they are temporarily in the USA in non-immigrant visa status. There is an exception or “loophole” that was inserted in the law to allow non-immigrant aliens who come into the USA to legitimately participate in lawful hunting activities to purchase and own a firearm to use for hunting purposes. But remember the laws are only abided by people who are law abiding, and who are not criminals or terrorists. The red flag here, if that Saudi military officer showed a hunting license to fit within that exception or “loophole” is that a Glock model 45, 9mm semi-automatic pistol with extended magazines is not a gun that is used in legitimate hunting activities throughout the USA and that fact should have been recognized by the federal firearms dealer who sold that firearm to that Saudi military officer.

Our military personnel are trained to use firearms. The Navy has access to Marines.
Does anyone else think it is extremely stupid to declare military bases in the US as "gun free zones"?
This terrorist had the run of the base until Sheriff's deputies from OUTSIDE THE BASE were able to respond to the situation. In the meantime, unarmed military with firearms training are just targets.

Stupid of the dealer to do this. A dealer does not have to sell you a gun. He should have said maybe a rifle or other long gun, but not a pistol. Meanwhile this beast would not have been so inspired and his scum friends would have opted out of their martyrdom if the US revived a policy we used the last time we got serious about militant islamic scum.
Let it be known any islamic terrorist will be covered in pig fat and buried with a pigskin. It caused a lot of drugged up muslims to rethink their plans in the Philippines in the early 1900s.

#7, good idea, but I think the proper procedure, as pioneered by Pershing in the Philippines is to sew the dead terrorist into a pig skin, and then once in the hole, pour pig's blood all over the whole mess.
And if we can find any other ways to properly spit on them, so to speak, we need to add that to the 'special procedures' for getting rid of terrorists. No way this piece of Schiff's body should go back to the Saudis. Dump it in the ocean, at least. No place of burial for this garbage.

NAS Pensacola must be a base where there is concurrent law enforcement jurisdiction between military and local law enforcement. When I was in the Army, as far as I can remember I was stationed at bases where the military retained exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction. In that respect those Army bases were policed by the Army military police and their criminal investigative arm called the CID, who were always armed and upon arrival at the scene would have immediate have taken out any armed shooter like that renegade Saudi gunman. In those days a lot of the military police and CID investigators were Vietnam veterans, many who served in combat units. I would like to think that it is like that today at all military bases, but apparently not, if all the military personnel have been disarmed through politically correct policies and must depend on local civilian law enforcement to do that job.

This loophole can be fixed by adding "unless you are a Muslim".

I didn't think that a semi-auto pistol is a legal hunting weapon. At least it isn't in Pennsylvania. Revolvers can be used; I've killed deer with my .357.
That said, I can't believe that my house is better armed than a military base.

WTH? A hunting license allowed him to buy a handgun. Who hunts with a handgun?

So how did he get a valid fishing or hunting licence without a valid ID to prove he was a FLA resident? This doesn't smell rright.

Ironically the still alive innocent victims of that Islamist terrorist should thank their lucky stars that the guy purchased a 9mm semiautomatic handgun that is relatively a low powered weapon! Instead of say a 45 Caliber handgun that at close range is much more powerful weapon. As that may be the reason that some of those victims remain alive today.

In many states, handguns in general are legal hunting weapons, this is purely a state hunting regulation issue. I hunted squirrels with a .22 semiauto pistol many years ago in Fla, legally. Some states have limits on what cartridges could be used for larger game, but for small game, rabbits, squirrels, armadillos (tasty), I think any handgun is legal. But, I haven't had a Florida hunting license in many years, so perhaps things have changed.

Loophole ? Give me $400 when the bars open and I'll bring you your gun by 10 PM. And I'll take my profit off the top. Not serious of course but it can be done.

What does one hunt with a Glock 9mm except people? The gun shop owner obviously didn't care even though it was technically legal.

The loophole exploited here is cultural, whereby in stupefied America, it's in our national interest to sell advanced military aircraft to people whose religion compels them to kill or convert nonbelievers. A second cultural loophole says it's beneficial for us to import such foreigners in order to enhance our Diversity (and sometimes to murder us in the streets when they're feelin' Islamic).
