Arguably one of the most talked-about works of art at this year’s Art Basel was a banana duct-taped to a wall that sold for $120,000. It’s Maurizio Cattelan’s latest work of art. It’s called ‘The Comedian’ and it is entertaining art lovers from around the globe. Some of those same art lovers’ conversations swirled around his 2017 golden toilet. The $6-million throne was stolen from England’s Blenheim Palace over the summer. Art lover Weezie Chandler said, “You can do anything and once you’re established you can get away with it.” Many believe this more ‘a-peeling’ piece represents the art world and its gaping wealth inequalities.

I do engineering consulting for an art museum. Much of the older art is amazing, great fun to work with and repair. I have to watch my tongue, though. IMO most modern art is pure dreck, including the much vaunted Picasso. But, people should buy what they like with their own money. None of my concern.

About 25 to 30 years ago, the Atlanta airport paid something like 100 grand for a piece of art that was installed in one of the larger spaces of the airport. It was there for a few days.... then the cleaning crew threw it away. They said it looked like a bunch of discarded drop cloths...

I saw thew original art work. It's emotional content is extremely intense. You have to understand that the banana symbolized freedom in America and the duct tape is Donald Trump pinning freedom to the wall. In a year, this art will be worth over $100 MM.

Tax payer millions fund the arts and this is what you get for your hard earned money, and the Arts is only one tentacle of the grant gravy train. The Federal Goobermint should outlaw all grants. Several billion dollars would be saved by this one act alone.

For a little NASA spacecraft, the weather outside is frightful. The Parker Solar Probe is on a mission toward the sun. The spacecraft has been exposed to scorching temperatures and intense sunlight as it draws closer with every loop around. Eventually, Parker will glide through the star’s outer atmosphere and feel the toastiness of nearly 2 million degrees Fahrenheit (more than 1 million degrees Celsius). Parker is dressed appropriately for the journey. It wears a thick, custom-made shield to protect its scientific instruments and systems, and tubes with flowing water to cool itself down. Inside, it is a cozy 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius).

A total of $315 million of U.S. dollar and euro notes were sent in six separate shipments from Moscow to Caracas from May 2018 to April 2019, according to data reviewed by Bloomberg from ImportGenius, which compiled Russian customs records it obtains through private sources. The cash came from lenders run by the countries’ governments and went to Venezuela’s development bank, the records show.

Many Americans remain nonplussed over revelations in the House Intelligence Committee’s Impeachment Inquiry Report that its chairman, Adam Schiff, not only secretly subpoenaed telephone records from President Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, but also obtained responses that detailed dates and lengths of phone calls to Trump attorney Jay Sekulow, ranking committee member Devin Nunes, and Hill reporter John Solomon. That Schiff self-disclosed this action as a rightful part of his committee’s information gathering is equally stunning. Every bit as bad, it appears that national telephone carriers AT&T and Verizon, who so tout their corporate concerns about subscriber privacy, responded to such obviously politicized demands without a whimper.
