Dems plot next move as impeachment

After two weeks of impeachment hearings, House Democratic leaders were poised to draft articles of impeachment against President Trump, but their rank-and-file members were stumped about what should be the next move. Lawmakers headed home for Thanksgiving break unsure whether there would be more hearings or when they would cast a seemingly inevitable vote on impeachment, with just eight legislative days remaining before the end of the year. Rep. Adam B. Schiff, the California Democrat and intelligence committee chairman who presided over the hearings, said the parade of witnesses had presented a clear-cut case that Mr. Trump abused the levers of power and bribed Ukraine officials to help his re-election campaign.

Comments:

It's possible there will be no articles of impeachment, but instead a letter of censure.

Why bother with any more hearings? The impeachment vote in the House was decided by the democrats 3 yrs ago before Trump even took office. It was what they campaigned on with the brainless snowflakes. Let's get this show trial on the road to where the real lawyers can start asking real questions with consequences like prison for those who lie. To the Senate, Boys! and don't spare the horses as they say. There is nothing like making a donkey look like a fool yet again.

I really don't care about the impeachment hearings. What I want to see are the indictments by AG Barr & Durham and the IG report. Also, the Senate is asking for Biden's transcripts to Ukraine.

Give it up! Just give it up! You bunch of donkeys’ asses! The Democrat Party is and has always been useless to real Americans. I can’t think of a single piece of legislation in all its history, that has been good for this country. They are, by nature, needlessly adversarial to anything right of center!

Kind of hard to vote for impeachment, even if you're a Democrat when every witness is either spouting 4th hand opinions on 'the way things ought to be done' or outright contradicting the charges.

This whole process has been a clear hoax, sham, Fake News, whatever you want to call it. Nothing of any importance has been 'discovered', just some gossipy, foolish bureaucrats who are unhappy that Trump's policy is different from what they wanted. They imagine that THEY set policy and how dare the President do things that they haven't planned and approved? If the Dems vote out impeachment articles, this will be the most horrible miscarriage of justice yet seen in this country.

The FBI lawyer under criminal investigation for allegedly altering a document connected to the surveillance of a Trump adviser was kicked off ex-special counsel Robert Mueller’s team for anti-Trump texts, according to a report Friday. The New York Times identified Kevin Clinesmith as the former FBI attorney under investigation by U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is probing the origins of the Russia probe. It was reported Thursday that Mr. Durham is probing whether an FBI lawyer falsified an email that was used to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court warrant to surveil Mr. Page. Mr. Clinesmith was the primary FBI attorney assigned to the Russia probe in 2017.

Former FBI agent Peter Strzok, who led the Bureau’s investigation into both the Hillary Clinton email scandal and what turned out to be the Russia hoax–simultaneously!–has sued the Attorney General over his ultimate dismissal from the Bureau. A filing in that case a few days ago has made public the letter to Strzok from Candice Will of the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility that suspended Strzok without pay for 60 days and demoted him to a non-supervisory position. If the letter has been made public before now, I am not aware of it. It is embedded below and is well worth reading in its entirety. A few observations:

Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., who is facing a House ethics probe for engaging in a relationship with a subordinate staff member, has been paying his girlfriend the highest salary among his staffers for nearly a decade, according to House disbursement records. Patricia Williams, Hastings’ girlfriend of at least 25 years, has been a congressional staffer in his office for 27 years, Hastings has said in press reports. Library of Congress records show that Williams was an aide to Hastings from 2002 to 2006, before transitioning into her role as deputy district director, which she held from 2006 to 2018. She is now the district director.

Three years after outsider Donald Trump blew up the political world with his implausible victory over the consummate insider, Hillary Clinton, many establishment Republicans still don’t get it. From their elite cocoon, they continue to indulge the hauteur that put off ordinary voters who had grown tired of a fossilized political class that serially ignored their interests, and seemed more concerned with their own insider perks and privilege, rather than in repairing the damage that decades of bipartisan progressive technocracy had inflicted on the Constitutional order. In the classic Rorschach test, the psychoanalyst shows a patient a bunch of inkblots and asks what each looks like. The responses are supposed to help guide the psychoanalysis by offering insight into the patient’s idiosyncratic perspective. The test has its critics, and sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but it can offer a fascinating insight into the human mind. If every inkblot is perceived by the patient as another implement or accessory used in baseball, we may very well be dealing with a baseball fan. (As for Hermann Rorschach himself, he spent so much of his boyhood in Switzerland making inkblots

Both stories concern the deteriorating state of affairs in Mexico and have huge implications for immigration, the southwest border, and U.S. national security. It’s a shame more Americans aren’t paying attention. The first was a report from BuzzFeed that as of Wednesday the Trump administration began carrying out a controversial plan to deport asylum-seekers from El Salvador and Honduras—not to their home countries, but to Guatemala, which the administration has designated a “safe third country,” meaning that migrants from those countries must first apply for asylum

I have written frequently about the dangers Vladimir Putin poses to U.S. interests. Yet when we prune all the rhetoric away, we are still left with two antithetical Obama–Trump administration policies. The Obama reset, in reaction to the Bush pushback against Putin’s aggression in South Ossetia, inaugurated a bewildering policy of appeasement — summed up in a 2012 debate by Obama’s weird attack on Mitt Romney who warned of Russian threats (“the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years”). The list of Obama’s Russian appeasement is long: watering down sanctions,
