2019 is poised to be either the second or third-warmest year on record, according to newly released data from the US government. According to a report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the “global land and ocean surface temperature departure from average for October 2019 was the second-highest for the month of October,” dating back to 1880. “The year-to-date temperature for 2019 was also the second warmest on record for the January–October period,” NOAA added. “Based on current anomalies and historical global annual temperature readings, it appears that it is virtually certain that 2019

When was the first thermometer invented? How was "temperature" tracked before that? What records were consulted for the 4th Century AD?

It was one of the coolest years in Dallas.
I guess it’s “global except for Dallas warming.”
Of course it’s no longer “global warming” so I don’t know what ”warmest year” would have to do with anything.

NASA probably stuck the thermometer in the wrong place. Nominal as they say.

Bullshirt.
They have absolutely NO IDEA what the weather was over 200 years ago and back for millions of years.
And IME, this has been a cool, colder than usual year. We never got anywhere near 100F this year, not even once. At our Colorado vacation home, we had -5F temps in early October, WAY colder than normal.
And all of November here in KC has been about 10F cooler than average.
They lie, it is just that simple. That on top of their absolute ignorance of any temps before the last century.

In Ripton, Vermont, where Bill McKibben lives and makes his living selling books predicting the end of the world because CO2 might go from 350 parts per million to 385 PPM, they have had a 100 year record breaking cold year. Books still selling well, though. I'd sooner believe the Farmer's Almanac. Or even the local "meteorologist". Better yet, wait for the weather and don't throw out your wood stove.

Yes! Great! More warming! More warming!
A warm Earth with lots of CO2 in the air becomes a tropical paradise with plant life flourishing and humans living the good life sipping pina coladas and hanging out on the beach.

Let me be the 1st to call "BS" on this. Show me the data. I always ask these idiots what the temperature of the Black Sea was in 1515 and no one knows - so don't give me this junk about warmest ever. This whole thing is a fraud by communists who want more control.

Very cold November here in the northeast. It’s total winter. I can recall many years with warmer summers and winters than last year and this one. I don’t but their numbers.

Considering temperature records only go back a hundred years or so, this is not a record to be taken seriously. It certainly does not justify the shock-horror propaganda about global warming pushed by the Left.
Furthermore, I didn't realize that Earth had a temperature. Earth is not a spot. What the alarmists are hiding when they say the earth's temperature has risen is that they are picking and choosing various spots on the Earth to get a mean that will show that the temperature has risen but not the spots that will lower the mean.

If 2019 was the second warmest year one should ask what was the warmest year. The fact is that climate and, therefore, weather has been constantly changing even before man appeared on the Earth. This includes two ice ages with warm period before and after each one.

We know NOAA has the correct temperature history because they have spent the last several years correcting and adjusting temperatures in the record-book to what NOAA says they actually were. They had to do some adjusting for those idiots in the past that thought the thermometer reading was the one to be used and not the one in the "experts" theories.

Remember this is the same group of frauds who kept thermal sensors near buildings so they'd enjoy the "heat island" effect and skew the numbers.

Reead the report. They use data from 1975 forward. Then base it on the 'average' 20th century temps. Remember, the world was coming out of the mini Ice Age in the beginning of the 20th century. So the 'highest' temp isn't really in recorded history, it within the last ~ 40 years. So this year has a 1 in 4 chance of being a top 10 temp year over the last 40 years. Pure BS.

Proud Texan (#20) is on it.
NOAA has been 'adjusting' the temperature records -I think the adjustments are every two weeks, but I'm not sure- for many years. Remember the 'Climategate' scandal, back in the 1990's? Part of the same 'racket'.
Existing temperature data from decades ago, back into the 1800's get 'corrected' over, and over, and over. The thermometer data- the actual numbers- that were read and written down all those years ago..... the 'official' temperature for all those dates and places are now .... different.
The 'odd' (sarc) thing is that pretty much ALL the older temperatures are adjusted cooler, and the older the temperatures readings are, the larger the 'adjustment factor', so the official 'temperature slope' (Years on the x-axis and Temperature on the Y-axis) is much steeper than it would be had these constant 'adjustments' not happened.
I might be just a dumb ol' mechanical engineer, but it appears to me to be scientific fraud on an industrial scale, fully supported by the Big Government clowns in the government and the media (but I repeat myself) and the Government-grant-dependent 'scientific community'. (You want your Next 'scientific study' to get funded, you'd better 'toe the line' in the study you are working on today!)

Yipee says a resident of the Frozen North! I'm getting tired of -40 (actual temp) in January! You have to put your snowmobile suit on to take out the garbage or they will find you dead...frozen solid...halfway up your driveway trying to get back inside!

Had the cabal pushed Global Cooling instead of Global Warming, the NOAA experts would say we're in grave danger because the Earth grows cooler with each passing year. The USA is all but broke, borrows devalued money printed in endless supply by the central bank so it can keep funding agencies like this one, which exist primarily to provide lucrative jobs yielding little of value to the taxpayers.
