Schiff Goes Full Stalin

As Rep. Adam Schiff’s “sentence first, trial later” show trial of President Donald J. Trump reaches a so-called public hearing phase, we find the weaver of fables dictating what witnesses the GOP will be permitted to call based on a set of three qualifying question they must answer in advance. These questions ask, essentially, if the witnesses believe President Trump is guilty of pressuring Ukraine to dig up dirt on the Bidens in exchange for military aid. The GOP, it seems, will not be allowed to call witnesses who have testimony or evidence to the contrary, that there was no pressure and no quid pro quo.

Why are the GOP collaborators-with-fascism participating in this farce? Are Republicans stupid enough to think they can outwit conniving Democrats? That is a contest they lose every time. There is only one Trump. The rest of them are idiots. This is about power. Stop playing games and start using power to destroy the Democrats and stop making the President do all the work. .

There is a fascinating tidbit that suggests a cooperating witness may be helping build the case against the coup plotters. I have for a long time suspected that Lisa Page could turn state’s evidence (snip) she would be high on my list of people to try to flip if I were on Durham’s team. And it looks like I am not the only personwho sees it that way. Check out this tweet that came out of the blue from Benjamin Wittes, co-founder of the Lawfare Group

It’s truly not shocking that a political leader would be a reprobate behind closed doors. From Caligula to the Marquis de Sade to Bill Clinton, the depraved have always been overrepresented among the ruling classes. It is for this reason that what’s even more distressing about the Katie Hill affair than what she did is the reaction to it from the broader society — including “broadminded conservatives” defending her. Hill, the former Democrat congresswoman whose resignation from office took effect Nov. 1, certainly is our time’s Thoroughly Modern Millie

Impervious as ever to the impact of centrally planned greenie socialism on the reliability of electricity in California, Gov. Gavin Newsom is running scared. He's threatening the Hugo Chavez solution to the new-normal of blackouts in his state, which is to say, nationalizing Pacific Gas & Electric. Nationalization? Boy is that a cop-out. (snip) PG&E has no money to put its electrical wires under the ground after all the "green mandates" the socialists in the California state assembly have foisted on them, forcing them to convert to pricey, unreliable and wire-transmitted solar and wind power instead of efficient, reliable, cheap fossil fuels.

In The Atlantic, Sarah Longwell, executive director for something called Republicans for the Rule of Law, an advocacy group run by NeverTrumps still bitter that Jeb Bush was denied his designated shot to lose to Hillary, drafts a plan for Senate Republicans to finally oust Trump from office. Her man for the job: Senator Romney. The piece reads like a screenwriter optioning a script. There's drama, scuttlebutt, the balancing of ambitions, character conflict, palace intrigue, a war of values. There's even artsy ambiguity, with Longwell unable to provide a satisfying conclusion to her fictional putsch.

There's a fine line between analyzing news and nakedly offering advice to one side and now Peggy Noonan has crossed it. Far from being one of her interesting and sometimes very very good touchy-feely analyses -- I've been willing to give her the benefit of the doubt on much despite her record of hating President Trump -- her latest on the impeachment sham is all about helping the Democrats get it done. She's not even pretending to be the objective observer of American politics and its voters. In this piece, she's cheerleading and offering advice -- for Team Schiff.

The arrogance and lack of self-awareness among the mandarins that inhabit the top levels of our government bureaucracies has led to a smoking gun-level confession. Rather than respecting the will of the voters who elect a president, they proudly substitute their own policy preferences and think nothing of conspiring to drive from office the person who holds legitimate authority to make policy and conduct the affairs of government. A confession from a man who formerly ran the CIA came Wednesday at an event sponsored by a friendly organization (snip) Former CIA Acting Director John McLaughlin was among friends who share the same seditious outlook

Democrats and their media propaganda arm have been telling us since President Trump took office that “The walls are closing in.” First it was the Mueller investigation, then every fake news story from the media, from Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen being in Prague to Don Jr. calling his father about the Trump Tower entrapment meeting with some Russians. Every “bombshell” revelation about Stormy Daniels or Omarosa meant that “the walls are closing in.” (snip) Instead it’s officials in the Obama administration, up to and including President Obama himself, who notice the size of their rooms beginning to shrink.

I’m beginning to think that hidden somewhere in the White House or Trump Tower there’s a magic wand that the president wields which turns his detractors— old Obama hands, make-believe conservative politicians and commentators, Democrats, and the media, into laughingstocks. If so, this weekend he waved it over the Washington Post. (snip) You’d think Baghdadi’s obituary would acknowledge what a monster he was. The header the Washington Post chose for this was originally “Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Islamic State’s ‘terrorist-in-chief,’ dies at 48.” It was changed to: “Abu-Bakr al-Baghdadi, austere religious scholar at helm of Islamic State dies at 48.” Why they changed it, I can’t say

An interesting portrayal of the leftist mentality, particularly as regards matters involving President Trump, can be found on the left-wing site Medium. It’s not often we get a clear picture of how leftists actually think. The message is so simplified, dumbed down, and controlled, largely for the benefit of the lowest-common-denominator left, along with camouflaging the actual agenda, that what we usually get is no more than a cartoon. (snip) for once, we’re getting the true gem of what a leftist thinks. And what is that, precisely? Well, fear, paranoia, dread, and a slowly mounting hysteria.

In some cheering weekend news, ISIS's big terrorist chieftain, founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was rendered into that proverbial grease spot on the desert floor. He won't be missed. It's a victory comparable to the military rubout of al-Qaida founder, Osama bin Laden. (snip) So much for all that "expert" opinion in the last few weeks in the mainstream media that President Trump's pullout of U.S. troops from Syria would inevitably bring the recrudescence of ISIS. Trump has just shown that it's not always necessary to stage troops on foreign land to be effective. In reality, the ISIS leadership just got decapitated, something that's going to have an impact

Do you think that it is a coincidence that as soon as the news broke that a criminal investigation of the origins of the surveillance of the Trump campaign was underway, Andrew McCabe withdrew his lawsuit against the Department of Justice and the FBI? It might be sheer random coincidence, of course, but maybe McCabe has bigger fish to fry when it comes to the courts. Roger Luchs offers an interesting perspective: Here’s the interesting question: Did he dismiss it because concluded it’s a loser, especially in light of anticipated indictment – or did he(his attorneys) conclude his suit waived his 5th Amendment rights?

Oxford professor Nicola Gardini urges people to read and study Latin. He believes that Latin is the antidote for the modern age, which seems transfixed by the spontaneous, the easy, and the ephemeral. His new book, Long Live Latin: The Pleasures of a Useless Language, argues that Latin combines truth and beauty with the timelessness of art. People should study Latin for all the reasons people should read literature. In his Confessions, St. Augustine (354–430 C.E.) “placed the learning of Latin under God’s purview,” Gardini writes. Augustine believed Latin drew a child closer to God, “the truest truth.” Gardini argues that Latin contains the logic and precision of math

"It's a partisan impeachment, clearly," he continued. "All impeachments, I guess, are political.
