Woke ‘Terminator’ Tanks at the Box Office

Original Article

Terminator: Dark Fate is not only tanking at the stateside box office, it’s also tanking overseas. If you have seen the movie, as I have, the fact that it cost $185 million to produce seems preposterous. There is no way all that money made it on the screen. But add another $100 million for promotion, and according to the formula, Dark Fate will have to make over $650 million worldwide just to break even. That’s just not going to happen. Dark Fate will be lucky to hit $75 million stateside, and the overseas grosses are already flaming out. As of right now, despite endless publicity and the news

In the original "Terminator" movie, Sarah Connor was a relatable character. But just seeing the preview of this new movie, she looks like a cartoon character. As a woman of a certain age (a tad over 50), I just don't get all these movies with women who can supposedly beat big strong men in fights. And other than the super hero genre movies (like Wonder Woman) where the woman has her strength through mythical super powers, none of these types of movies do good at the box office. Does Hollyweird really think there is a huge market for this???

Linda Hamilton has bi-polar disorder and admits it ruined her first marriage and likely led to James Cameron's affair and the end of that marriage. Why she even considers working with Cameron again on a overdone plot is anyone's guess. Maybe she still has a crush on him. The author does note Cameron's successes, but in retrospect I have some disagreements even if I ignore Cameron's continual beating us over the head with the female superiority schtick. Aliens was a great concept, but the photography and film quality was horrible; by Cameron's own admission Titanic was a chick flick; and Avatar was an exercise in plagiarism plot-wise and effects-wise from several other movies (Jurassic Park, The Beast; Last of the Mohicans) all in another Holloywood effort to bash the Iraq War. But, he sure has done OK for a college drop out.

What gets me about woke Hollywood (and Madison Avenue) (and the Beltway) is the inauthenticity (I made up that word). Can't relate. Don't see any of it on the street (and I've lived in inner cities and elitist cities), defies common sense, runs counter to experience, sends a false and what can be a dangerous message, especially to girls (no, you cannot beat up a brawny guy twice your size) (and please don't try). It's fake, it's not inspiring, there's no vision of a more enlightened life.Just a feeling of being condescended to, hectored and lectured, by an unconnected elitist who knows very little about human nature and the way life works.

Arnold is known and loved around the world, but he's getting older and looks it. Not a crime but a fact. Same with Linda Hamilton. She was sorta-kinda attractive 35 years ago, but now, just looks angry and scrawny. He should have directed two brand new actors and given them a chance to create a new franchise. My statements are not necessarily 'nice or fair', but they are the truth from my perspective.

That is so cute. Nolte thinks this movie was made for American audiences. Silly Nolte. This movie was made and aimed at the Asian market, which is way bigger financially than the American audience has been for a very long time. Its a big reason why most of the movies out of Hollywood stink. They aren't made for us, they are made to influence Asia's opinion of us. Pure propaganda from the fantasy factory aka Hollywood. They know they will more than make up the slack with the Asian market. As to the previous poster and the subject of girrrl power, I have been wondering that for a very long time. Seems to me, it is just more wishful thinking, because it is just not physically possible unless the woman is a body builder.

I had no idea what "Terminator" was when a group of pistol shooting buddies and I, out of town at the National Championships in the middle 80s, ran across it, bored and looking for something to do. We enjoyed a good action movie. The second one was pretty decent, the liquid metal Terminator a good touch. After that each was a step down from the previous one, and I eventually saw them all, although the last few on late night TV, glad I didn't pay for them. Sounds like the worst of the bunch, and I have to laugh when the 4'10" "girl action hero" beats the hell out of somebody the size of Vin Diesel, or some other big, strong guy who would laugh at their best shots in real life. This sort of "movie magic" is just silly and foolish, not fun. I'll pass.

I've been sick of the "girl power" little girls beating up the big, bad guys ever since Charlies Angels. Ladies who obviously don't work out much or have a Black Belt in Karate cannot defeat big, mean guys who live their lives on the street. Don't Try This At Home should be predominately displayed on the opening credits.
