More than 2 million Californians were recently left without power after the state's largest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric -- which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year -- preemptively shut down transmission lines in fear that they might spark fires during periods of high autumn winds.
Consumers blame the state for not cleaning up dead trees and brush, along with the utility companies for not updating their ossified equipment. The power companies in turn fault the state for so over-regulating utilities that they had no resources to modernize their grids.

The CA voter came to that fork in the road that Yogi Berra used to talk about - the left fork read Venezuela and the right pointed to Freedom - they chose the former.

One party dictatorship California has become a third world H hole and her neighboring states are being overrun by rats leaving that sinking ship. Fear for Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and Idaho. Oregon and Washington were ruined by Californians years ago.

Not premodern. In premodern times people were free to earn a living and keep what they earned. They were free to engage in commerce or practice a skill without government permission or regulation. They were free to defend themselves against attack and have the means to do so. They were free to use their property for anything they wanted to use it for. They were free to deal with anyone, or not deal with anyone, for whatever their reasons were. They were free to practice their own values and to teach those values to their children.
Kalifornia is not free, and its refugees infect destination states with the rot that killed them. New Mexico is another victim of their communist spillage.

California is simply becoming what Global Warming freaks long for. It's natural, and expected.

On behalf of my ridiculous state, I apologize to the rest of the nation. When I show up in your state please be kind and remember we're not all communists and we didn't all vote to be Venezuela. We just got out voted on the way down.

California politicians fell into the trap of passing legislation which "felt good" vs "actually did good". Their water and forestry management was so overly concerned with not harming the environment that they actually DID harm it!

Californians brought this on themselves at the voting booth. Too damned bad most of them are too stupid to connect the policies they vote for to the strife they are seeing mount every day. They'll flee that strife and go on to destroy the next state with the same support for the dame destructive policies. God save us if Texas falls to the swarm of collectivist locusts.

California is decivilizing much as the Eastern Roman Empire did. The elites sit back and sip wine as the underclass slowly devolves from their lack of good governance and moral decay.
We even have barbarians waiting to sweep in and take over what's left. They'll rename California, Atzlan.

Well thought out and well written, as usual for VDH. California is becoming the perfect movie set for a remake of The Hunger Games. I thoroughly enjoyed Rush's description of Tesla owners having to park their cars during the blackouts and being forced to use gasoline powered vehicles. That irony was probably lost on the progressive morons.

California is going backwards. Just read the article to see how.
Most people go along with it thinking they can work the situation to their advantage. There is a permanent underclass that believes they are dependent on the government, are content with their situation, and expect everybody else to take care of them. The rich elites live in separate communities far from the poverty, and have so much money that taxation, healthcare, and education are not issues. The middle class wants the government to take better care of them, but that does not happen because somebody has to pay. The middle class leave, but still think others should pay for them. Inevitably, the California virus spreads to other states.
This is all about people folks.

I NEVER voted for California’s progressive policies! I was just talking with a relative - the last time something I voted for won was Prop 8, the one that recognized marriage as being between a man and a woman. Our Attorney General at that time, Jerry Brown, stated he would not enforce the law and the California State Supreme Court overturned it. Since then we have tumbled into free fall where every single thing I for for fails and whatever I vote against wins. It’s almost like the liberals in this state will never again allow the conservatives to win at anything. There are more conservatives here then many people realize - I now wonder if results for more than presidential elections are being tampered with, that progressive policies are now assured passage.

The myriad 'benefits' of letting the econazis run your government. No electrical power, food rotting in your refrigerator and freezer, more and more dangerous wildfires due to no forest management, water shortages, loss of huge swaths of orchards and other productive croplands.
Do the California voters LIKE this? Apparently enough to keep these leftist nutcases in power.

California, sadly, is just the front of a coming tidal wave of Democratic led failed states. Illinois, where I live, New York, New Jersey are following close on its heels.

I heartily agree with #6 sir. Anywhere within 80 miles of Fredericksburg and if you have a tail you'll be wagging it. As for California, premodern? Going on prehistoric.

Back in the 60s there was a tv comedy called the Beverly Hillbillies about the novella rich moving from Tennessee to California. Today the direction flow is in reverse for some. Still Berkley is considered, by some, to be one of the best universities in the world. They are publicly funded. So CA still has lots of money. It's just how they choose to spend it. I expect them to pass a law outlawing fire.

Atlas is definitely shrugging out here, that’s for sure. We could take the state back, but we’d have to bend a few rules. Bust a few heads.
The chances of that happening are not zero, when SHTF.

In CA, it's verboten to clear brush and dead trees, even by PG&E who is required by state law to turn their profits into social programs rather than spend on their own infrastructure. You get what you vote for which is turning off the electrical grid. I hope those morons are enjoying their vote, illegal or otherwise.
