Report: Violent Crime
Rate in 2018 Lowest Since 1971

Statistics drawn from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program show that the violent crime rate in 2018 hit its lowest level since 1971. FBI crime stats show the “estimated rate of violent crime was 368.9 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants.” That is a 3.9 percent reduction in the rate when compared with 2017 stats, but the real lesson emerges when we look long term. For example, Bearing Arms reports that the 2018 rate of violent crime was barely above the 1971 rate of 396 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. Ironically, one of the greatest differences between 1971 and 2018 is that there are exponentially more privately-owned firearms

Ouch, this really puts a dent in the Left's narrative about guns. More guns = less violence? Maybe it's the people that actually use the guns that is the problem? The Left also likes to create the impression their is a CRISIS of violence, gun related. The dems NEED to FIX it by taking away guns. But if there is NOT a crisis, why do we need the dems or their bogus solutions. Of course none of this will make any difference to the Left. They are blind to facts that don't match their screed.

The biggest factor is that too many of the chosen victims are shooting back these days, just not as safe out there being a thug as it used to be, fewer interpersonal crimes are being committed. The criminals work hard to steal without contacting people since so many today could be armed. Thus, property crimes continue, but interpersonal violence drops.

Better come and get those AR-15s quickly, Beto. This low-crime nonsense has got to change. PS: Your stupid idea will result in less liberals not less guns.

During a visit to the region on Sunday night, President Donald Trump said he is working with lawmakers on “trying to come up with a solution” to gun violence in the wake of last month’s mass shooting in Dayton’s Oregon District. In an exclusive interview with the president, News Center 7’s Molly Koweek asked President Trump what a solution might look like. “We have to protect our second amendment,” Trump said. “We can’t let guns be taken away from good people, but we want to have them taken away from crazy people.”

Divorced, excommunicated, 25 years old with three children, my mom never felt sorry for herself. She told me time and again during my boyhood that we should appreciate everything we had. Take nothing for granted. Three weeks of Air Force survival training in the rainy mountains of Colorado taught me how easily I had taken the simple comfort of a dry, warm bed for granted. Watching my infant son turn blue, with nary a breath or a heartbeat, taught me how quickly I had taken him for granted (he survived). We take things for granted all the time, don’t we?

Engineers at Purdue have built a flying robot to mimic one of the most expert flyers in the natural world: the hummingbird. Drones wish they could fly with the agility and grace of the biological family Trochilidae, which includes all 357 types of hummingbirds. Boasting the flying capabilities of birds and the hovering abilities of insects, they represent an intersection of flying philosophies that scientists are eager to unlock. Hummingbirds could lead to leaps forward for search-and-rescue drones, commercial filming robots, military use, and any other flying venture that is punctuated by quick, unexpected stops and starts.

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said Saturday that he intends to speed up plans to secure the border while visiting a Texas border city. Shanahan also said Pentagon officials would remain at the border until it is secure, according to the Associated Press. “We’re not going to leave until the border is secure,” he said. “This isn’t about identifying a problem. It’s about fixing a problem more quickly.” He told Congress this week that 4,364 troops are stationed at the border, but the troops do not act as law enforcement.

You probably wouldn´t usually go to Cincinnati´s cavernous music venue Bogart´s at 11 a.m. for an hour-long talk about economic policy, but more than 1,500 prospective voters supporting or curious about Democratic presidential primary contender U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren did today. Minus a couple flubs, Warren brought enough energy to fill the room, showcasing a wonky but neatly-packaged policy platform aimed squarely at voters disenchanted with the nation´s economic and political structures and a controversial Republican administration.

Dozens, if not hundreds, of STEM School Highlands Ranch students walked out in anger Wednesday evening after two congressional Democrats and a far-left group politicized a vigil for a student who was killed during a mass shooting at the Colorado school Tuesday. According to students who attended the event, the speakers at the vigil — Democrat Rep. Jason Crow, Democrat. Sen. Michael Bennet and Laura Reeves, an activist with the gun-control group Moms Demand Action — all sought to exploit 18-year-old student Kendrick Castillo’s death to score political points against the gun lobby and drum up more votes for Democrats.

Chelsea Clinton’s current strategy for selling her latest book is to attack President Donald Trump. After already targeting the president on Twitter, she had more to say while appearing on “The View.” “He’s the greatest scam in American political history,” she said, adding that “his whole life has been a scam.” Chelsea was appearing on the program with her mother Hillary, who co-wrote the new book with her daughter. Chelsea previously got attention for replying to a tweet the president sent out calling the impeachment inquiry into his phone call with the Ukrainian president “the greatest scam in the history of American politics.”

Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano argued in a column and video published on FoxNews.com Thursday morning that President Donald Trump’s “criminal behavior” with regard to Ukraine is impeachable, and that his threats against the whistleblower are dangerous. The column opens by noting that “the criminal behavior to which Trump has admitted is much more grave than anything alleged or unearthed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and much of what Mueller revealed was impeachable,” before outlining the specifics of the Ukraine scandal currently presenting an existential threat to his administration.

The great triumph of recent American politics is for the people of your fine country to have elected as president a man who is the precise embodiment of what supercilious Europeans think Americans are really like. Pig-ignorant, arrogant, jingoistic, contemptuous of foreigners, loud-mouthed, badly dressed and irredeemably bumptious. So consuming is the European antipathy toward Donald Trump — he’s never read a book! He eats steak with ketchup! — that it afflicts leading politicians across our continent, people who would be better advised to button it a while and show a little bit of diplomacy to the leader of the free world. But they can’t: the contempt always bleeds through.

Pope Francis on Sunday scolded countries that produce weapons for wars fought elsewhere and then refuse to take in refugees fleeing the very same conflicts. The 82-year-old Argentine pope, whose parents were of Italian immigrant stock, has made the defense of migrants and refugees a plank of his pontificate and he has often clashed over immigration policy with US President Donald Trump and populist anti-immigrant politicians in Europe.

House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff is in damage control mode after the New York Times reported that he learned about the Deep State CIA spy’s accusations against President Trump several days before the officer filed a whistleblower complaint. The Deep State spook filed a complaint on August 12 based on second-hand knowledge and hearsay of Trump’s July 25 phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, so Schiff had knowledge of the accusations and worked discreetly for up to two weeks.Schiff is now claiming he has never met with or spoken to the whistleblower — in fact, Schiff is claiming he doesn’t even know the identity of the whistleblower!

"Have you heard from the whistleblower?" MSNBC contributor Sam Stein asked House intelligence committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on September 17, nine days before the complaint was released to the public. "We have not spoken directly with the whistleblower," Schiff responded at the time, never mentioning that one of his committee staffers had directly spoken to the whistleblower -- and that the staffer "shared some of what the [whistleblower] conveyed" with Schiff, according to the New York Times. The New York Times says the staffer referred the whistleblower to a (Democrat-connected) attorney to help him file a formal complaint with the intelligence community inspector general.

First, it is likely that President Donald Trump violated some cockamamie administrative rule when he recently spoke with the new Ukrainian president about the potential corrupt dealings of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, in Ukraine. Fine. Can’t Trump just pay a fine or something? Yes, he should’ve been more careful (and he needs to tell Rudy Giuliani to calm down, as the former mayor risks perjuring himself before not one, but three Congressional committees). What Trump did was the equivalent of going 15 mph over the speed limit in rural Georgia: it happens. Rarely does anyone notice. Ignorance is still not a viable legal defense.

If the Trump administration continues to not cooperate with Congressional investigations, the president could be impeached on that alone, top Democrats threatened on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference Wednesday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff reaffirmed Democrats’ new stance that they’ll consider any resistance from the administration as “further evidence of obstruction.” “Of course that was an article of impeachment against President Nixon,” the California Democrat said. For his part, Mr. Trump said Wednesday he was willing to go along with Democrats, but it’s not clear how far that cooperation will extend.

The character formed an upside-down "OK" symbol with his fingers, recognized by some as a hate symbol, on the girl's shoulder, according to a photo and video reviewed by USA TODAY.
