While an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump captivates the media and politicos across the country, the U.S. senate is debating a landmark immigration bill. The “Fairness For High Skilled Immigrants Act” has already passed the House of Representatives and has bipartisan support in the Senate. The bill would eliminate the cap on the number of immigrants who come from certain countries, which would in turn increase the number of high-skilled immigrants who come to the U.S. Currently, the U.S. government hands out roughly 1 million green cards every year, but mandates that no country can receive more than 7% of all employment-based green cards.

President Trump before he considers this bill, must make sure that it will not be an industry engine to displace American workers and replace them with foreigners.

A million green cards per year? When there's graduates who can't get a job after graduation? I know, I know, what employer in their right mind wants to hire a lazy, entitled, uneducated (but gifted in anti-Americanism) USA citizen. But a million a year to depress wages? That's excessive if you ask me. These wonks wanted public and higher education to be dumbed down and they got it, so now they don't like it? Or is it a way to be foreign votes?

A terrible, terrible bill. This will steal jobs from Americans and depress wages in the high tech sector, which will prevent many from seeking to get an education in those fields because they course work is extremely demanding, and the pay will be lowered by all the foreigners coming in on these damned visas if this passes.

The games the tech companies play make me sick. I have witnessed them at close range. All their social justice and "Don't be evil" claims are nonsense. I always managed to stay a step or two ahead of their callous and heartless actions but saw friends who believed "their company wouldn't do that" clobbered. Laying people off a couple months short of their pension is not an accident. Laying off workers with a family member sick with cancer is not either. Telling people their jobs are safe while secretly planning to hire "High Skilled Immigrants Act" is common.
Here is my note to the President:
Please veto the "Fairness For High Skilled Immigrants Act" if it reaches your desk. It should be titled "Unfairness to High Skilled American STEM workers act". Or the "Congress pleasing our masters in the US Chamber of Commerce Act".
We do not need millions more H1B workers to take American jobs.
You are aware of the dishonesty and bias of big tech in the political arena. They are at least and possibly more dishonest in the business arena. When they say that they can't find enough workers to fill the jobs they are leaving out that they can't find enough totally compliant, subservient, captive workers at the wages they want to pay. They lie and say they are only hiring very high skilled people to fill jobs that American STEM workers can't do and then bring in people with average or less than average skills to fatten their profits. They advertise for workers in high wage areas, specify skill sets that would command top dollar in these areas at one half or less the going rate and when no one applies they claim that there aren't any workers available. They cry shortage before Congress while bragging in industry magazines that they have thousands of applicants for every job. They are liars and they are totally dedicated to their own enrichment.
Please put America and American workers first and not the greed of big tech.
Thank you

There is nothing terrible about this bill, except for the fact that it is a bit complicated to understand. It does not increase green cards. 70-80% of the people who have applied for employment-based green cards are stuck in a backlog - indentured and not able to fully contribute to the economy here. The status quo ignores the choked pipeline and calls for more immigrants from other countries. I am my family are affected by this backlog, having been in this country for over 13 years with no respite in sight. I have completed my Masters from the US, and my wife is a physician at a renowned Cancer Center in Texas.
Contrary to some of the comments here, this bill actually WILL IMPROVE the situation of Americans. What kind of sane argument is it say that this will depress wages and bring more people, when the people affected are already in this country and indentured? In fact, the indenture is what is depressing wages in the US. This bill does nothing to bring more workers in, and in fact, will provide the visibility to understand immigration needs by streamlining employment-based green cards.

Sorry, #9, I want all those jobs to go to Americans, and all the green cards for high tech workers to be STOPPED until wages rise a LOT.
Importing workers from other countries is NOT a good thing for Americans.

to #10: To your point, I understand your sentiment that's easier said than done. If all the folks working for over a decade in certain jobs are sent away, then in many cases, the technical jobs go with them to foreign locations of those companies(Canada, India, Ireland, China etc). And in addition, this expertise will enable them to build teams offshore. Technology jobs can be done from any place, any time with the technical resources available. There's no reversing this.
