Senate Shouldn’t Dignify Impeachment
Parody With a Trial

Mitch McConnell told NPR last Friday that, if the House impeaches President Trump, “the Senate immediately goes into a trial.” This is music to Democratic ears, despite the infinitesimal chance of conviction, because they desperately need the sordid spectacle into which impeachment trials inevitably devolve. The Senate, however, isn’t required to try the President. That chamber possesses the “sole power to try all impeachments,” but is under no constitutional obligation to do so. The Democrats ignored House precedent and longstanding tradition to launch their “impeachment inquiry.” Why should Senate Republicans consider themselves bound by precedent and procedural rules where the trial is concerned?

First, an institution that would preserve the union should follow its precedents. The Dems will demonstrate anarchy. Republicans should demonstrate order.
Second, if necessary by law, you WANT a trial. The House acts as a Grand Jury, deciding if a trial is needed. Grand juries are biased toward the likelihood of guilt. Only in a trial is the full argument for innocence made and ALL evidence exposed and fully examined. In the SENATE, all the dem lies and innuendos will be overthrown. With Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing, the Left created the condemnation in the media. It was in the Senate hearing, under careful examination, that it became clear that the accusations were unsupported. Also consider Mueller's inquiry, which was a type of a public trial. Despite the massive bias of Mueller's team, they KNEW with Barr, a fair "judge", they would have to have a solid case. They didn't and it became painfully obvious that they lacked even the basics of any evidence. No matter how ugly it gets, the trial is necessary.
And yes, there will always be the ugly residue of the trial. Kavanaugh remains besmirched and the Left will never believe he is innocent. The alternative is to have good men shy way from confrontation because the Left has decided to jump ugly, a tactic they seem all too eager to use. The Left is forcing this upon us. The battlefield is already chosen. Now the war must be fought and decisively won. Not for Trump, even though he deserves a public exoneration. The nation NEEDS to have a confrontation of the Left and an evisceration of their tactics and lies. The "Democrats’ destructive agenda, their low regard for the voters, and their willingness to waste the Senate’s time on a tawdry circus" should be spotlighted and dragged thoroughly through the mud.

There is precedent for not having a trial. When Andrew Johnson was impeached, the House passed 11 articles of impeachment. The Senate acquitted him on three of the articles and never even considered the other eight.

Unfortunately, finding 20 republicans in the senate to defect is probably no longer out of the question. Self always comes before country or even party anymore.

As Pelosi conveniently changed rules of the House suit her plans, Mitch can (but will he?) change rules of the Senate to make exposing of the Deep State easier. The trial should be looked at as an opportunity and aggressively resisted. Otherwise a 'trial' presided over by Roberts and we are sunk!

If the Democrats actually move forward with this foolish charade, the President should move to dismiss it in the Senate as not involving an impeachable offense. Presidents are allowed to ask foreign leaders for help in investigations. Everything else the Democrats have is hearsay and speculation.

Once Pelosi sees the senate’s list of those who will be required to testify under oath at the trial, she will probably drop the entire charade. Does she really want to be responsible for 0bama, Illary, Bill, Brennan, Clapper, Comey, Strzok, Page, both Orhs, etc to be forced to take the stand in front of the whole world? What would they do to her in return?

Mitch knows the Rules of the Senate. He doesn't need help.
The threat is the thing, not any actual impeachment that requires a trial, not before the '20 election cycle. Too risky for both sides of the UNIPARTY.
The Senate will not do much to defend PDT if it comes to that. A sufficient number will vote "impeachment" if the time comes and politics demands. It will be a bi-partisan UNIPARTY lynching.
And then what? Gonna vote for Mitt/Lindsey in '24?

Romney is already recruiting senators. #1 you are correct. The Nation needs a confrontation. We have been at a confrontation since FDR, the second socialist and patron saint of rats. This confrontation is now at its peak and will get ugly when the shooting begins.

Does anyone know how many times a paroday has been read into the Official Record of the House of Representatives?
