Aside from the emotional issue that Democrats, NeverTrumpers, and celebrities loathe Donald Trump, recently Representative Al Green (D-Texas) reminded us why the Democrats are trying to impeach the president rather than just defeat him in the 2020 general election.
“To defeat him at the polls would do history a disservice, would do our nation a disservice,” Green said. “I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach the president, he will get re-elected.” Translated, that means Green accepts either that Trump’s record is too formidable or that the agendas of his own party’s presidential candidates are too frightening for the American people to elect one of them.

Ah, what price sanity? Once again VDH manages to make sense of this manufactured chaos. An excellent article with some new insights. VDH is always a must read for me. Thanks for posting.

There is zero chance of conviction and removal. There is an equally remote chance that the 'Rats will mount a successful effort in the 2020 elections. So what are the options? An intense campaign involving coordinated efforts of Democrats, Media, Deep State, Pop culture to create a picture of inevitability of conviction and removal. To cow PDT into throwing in the towel. The best response is to hit back. Look upon the Senate trial as an opportunity to put the Deep State, Biden and Hillary on trial no matter what the 'prosecution' says. Look at it this way. If PDT was the kind who could be scared away he would be 'gone by Christmas' as Diane Feinstein said.

Let's get to reality: There is a "bi-partisan" UNIPARTY, which is controlling all things in national politics and policy. Every leader and our most recent Presidents, from Bush43 to Obama, Republican and Democrat, has been a member and willing participant. This UNIPARTY has the support of senior bureaucrats, and is otherwise directed by the likes of Mueller, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, and the rest.
The initial soft coup was disrupted by one honest man, and allowed Trump to escape the "wiretapping" that was bound to catch him in "something". Like Wile E. Coyote, PDT has thwarted their attempts to smear him with various accusations amplified by the participating media.
The fact is that there are three tactical options on the UNIPARTY table: 1) Resignation; 2) Withdrawal; 3) Defeat. Impeachment is not one of them, too late and too politically risky for 2020. The last thing the UNIPARTY wants is the GOPe back in control of the House.
With a Dem House, after January '21, impeachment becomes a useful nuclear option with little to lose. And don't expect the GOPe acolytes in the Senate to acquit. This is war - and impeachment is a political act. Both partners in the UNIPARTY will plunge in the daggers...making it bi-partisan!

Disagree, #3. Even the GOPe acolytes in the senate want to keep their cushy jobs. Caving to the left in the senate trial would be their political deaths.

An impeachment would, in the scheme of things, be meaningless, except as a display of democrat derangement. Changing the rules of impeachment so that the opposition party (democrats) can deny participation by the minority party is the stuff of dictators and despots in the worst countries of the world. From now on, the majority party in the House of Representatives can impeach the president of the other party, all on it's own. We could see every president impeached that is from the opposing party of the House majority.
If the democrats go through with this unethical scheme, the Senate should refuse to recognize it, and refuse to conduct a trial.

The national treasure has spoken once again with clarity and conviction. I fear that a routine default considering every VDH article a must read dilutes the recommendation but this is a must read.

#4 - The first rule on Capitol Hill is to get along you go along. The perks, from office location and space to access to money, dry up real quick going rogue without permission. These things are not decided on the merits of the case either way.
Those who need a pass for re-election will get one. But first one must get to impeachment and trial. In an election year? Yeah, sure...

In other words, "the will of the people be dam*ed!"

Clearly the writer is over the target.
Look for Biden’s lawyers to try to get the media to ignore the writer since he is not a public official nor does he hold public office. Right now Biden’s lawyers are already trying to do that with Rudy Giuliani.

FTA:
Consider it another way: Why is it that the House is controlled by Democrats, yet its leadership is not pushing through any of the policy proposals voiced so openly on the Democratic primary stage?
Why aren’t progressive representatives introducing bills to pay reparations to African Americans, to legalize infanticide in some cases of late-term abortion, to offer free medical care to illegal aliens, to confiscate AR-15s, to extend Medicare for all, to impose a wealth tax and raise top rates to between 70 and 90 percent, to abolish student debt and ensure free college for all, or to grant blanket amnesty to those currently living in the country illegally?
Simple answer: none of those issues poll anywhere near 50 percent approval. And no Democratic candidate would expect to beat Trump as the emissary of such an agenda.

They cannot beat the President at the polls, cannot win by following the rules, so they will break the rules.
At some point, that is the ignition point for Civil War 2.0. To the extent they succeed at breaking the rules, and squelching the will of the people, they will then empower We, the People to break out the Second Amendment to rebalance the scales.
They really do NOT want to do this, and I really do hope that they do not. There is nothing good down that path, yet they insist on going down it, it seems.
