As I have said before, I think the claim that President Trump’s phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine somehow constitutes an impeachable offense is ridiculous. But impeachment is a political act, not a legal one, and the Democrats’ motives are entirely political. They think that impeaching President Trump will cast a pall of discredit over him and weaken his chances for re-election in 2020. I think that calculation is probably right. We will see a great deal of impeachment-related poll data in the months to come, but this early survey, reported in the New York Post, suggests that the Democrats are on the right track: Headline corrected*

Oh, they have polling data. Didn't they have that polling data telling us that Hillary would win the last election?
Problem is, they are going up against Trump. Sorry poster the guy isn't right. Trump knows how to use this to defeat the Democrats. He probably wants it to happen. As Biden will need to drop out of the race, Trump will go after the next one. Hopefully, Hillary enters and becomes the candidate. Then by next Sep or Oct the bomb will drop on her (video) and it will be all over. Have faith. Don't let a writer from Powerline dictate and scare you. They've lost every battle up to now and they'll continue to lose. These Deep State authors are just trying to scare you. Don't let them. Don't be a wimp.

Well he’s wrong about impeachment being a purely political act so I’m not putting much faith in the rest of his thoughts.

In a political vacuum, he would probably be right. But this will (hopefully) all take place in the midst of an avalanche of indictments against top Democrats. Impeachment represents their attempt to preemptively distract from those indictments by putting the cart before the horse. They will claim any indictments represent Trump's desperate attempt to stop impeachment rather than the other way around. In that non-sequitur they will succeed with many people, since logic has never played a big role for Progressives.

Of course, impeachment is a political act. What else is it? The House decides what is a "high crime or misdemeanor" and sends an indictment to the Senate for trial. Why was Andrew Johnson impeached? His crime was not bowing to an unconstitutional law Radical Republicans passed. Clinton was impeached for lying under oath and obstruction of justice in a non-governmental civil matter. That lead balloon didn't fly, either, even under Scottish law.
The bottom line here is putting Trump out of the 2020 race, preferably to benefit a rescuing GOPe White Knight (Guess who!) or, to poison his candidacy to prevent re-election in November. If PDT wins re-election, stand by for four more years...of this UNIPARTY production.
Impeachment carries political consequences. It's only a threat, not a real course of action. Those six committees "authorized" to investigate will be spitting out at high speed lies, innuendo, and "blockbuster" false leaks for the media shills like a gatling gun. Trump's thumb will fall off trying to respond to them all. It has become an "everyone in the pool" exercise now. Watch as the GOPe gives a pro-forma, lukewarm defense of PDT that will dwindle when the time is ripe.

The trust in the media is at an all time low. Let them and the Democrats yell and scream. Meanwhile Americans are cashing their paychecks and feeling pretty good about their futures. I think about the little boy who yelled wolf.....if President Trump ever really does do something wrong, people will ignore the media and the Democrats then, too.
It would be awful to be a liberal/progressive (whatever they are) and wake up every morning so full of hate and venom.

If the left will treat a sitting President like this, how will they treat the rest of the voting public? You cannot trust a government that behaves like this. The left's impeachment stunt is going to backfire bigtime.

So far in American history, all impeached presidents have been Democrats. Pelosi, et al. are simply working to partly even the score. Facts of Trump presidency don't matter.
