China already lost in the trade war with the U.S. Although you will never hear Chinese authorities, especially President Xi Jinping, admit it as such, the evidence is everywhere and only becoming more compelling by the day. Reuters recently reported that based on the Chinese government's own data, China's economic slowdown has worsened in August, with "growth in industrial production is at its weakest in 17-1/2 years amid spreading pain from a trade war with the United States and softening domestic demand. Retail sales and investment gauges worsened too." Despite such poor readings, Premier Li Keqiang insists that China is still on track

It's all working in favor of the USA. DJT will be seen as the savior of Democracy, our Economy and World Importance when history looks at this period fairly.

What is amazing about this is that Xi SHOULD have known all this. He SHOULD have also known that people that take on Trump and the US end up looking like they went through a buzz saw. The fools in international politics have been made stupid by thinking the only weapon the US has it it's military and the only choice is to go to war or not. Trump has unleashed the US' far more powerful and subtle weapon, economics. Economic power can be targeted and tuned and ramped up and down. Further, much of it is under the president's direct influence, he doesn't need to pass laws to accomplish his goals. Trump and his people are masters at this while most of the politicians are dunces. Xi has brought himself, his Country, and his people through a lot of unnecessary pain which will now be extended because the damage is more significant and in some areas, longer lasting. Meanwhile, the end result in the US will be an even stronger economy and likely benefit the people who have suffered the most. And, of course, a triumphant president. Iran is going to suffer an even worse lesson. They are going to be in a very tight economic noose and perhaps get a few military black eyes as well. If China backs down, all our focus will switch to Iran and the results will be catastrophic for them. China will walk away as China. Iran won't be so lucky. What will North Korea do? How about the "Palestinian" issue. Each win makes the pressure on the remaining trouble spots greater and more likely to be resolved. At the end of another 5 years, Trump may be the most successful foreign policy president ever. BO wanted to fundamentally transform the US. Trump may fundamentally transform the world and might be able to accomplish it without a major war. Best of all, it will drive the Left even more crazy.

Important article. This author gets it exactly right, one of very few who can see past their "I Hate Trump" biases and get to the facts in the case. I have been saying for months that pork is China's Achilles heel. They need both our soy beans to feed their own hogs and to buy our hogs to keep their people fed. And the pork shortage causes more of tight Chinese consumer budgets to go into food, and that is less money which can be used to offset the lower US purchases of other manufactured goods. That they have a swine flu epidemic is further harming their whole pork production situation, common in centrally planned economies. I worked with microbiological institutes in Ukraine which were quite experienced in rapidly making swine flu vaccines. China should contact them. China has never been in an economic position to actually fight this trade war and the are rapidly starting to back off of their positions (tariffs/barriers against our goods). The USA and Trump positions are far stronger, and until China backs off and agrees to all of Trump's trade requirements, they will continue to lose. And we will continue to win, and more jobs will flow back to the USA, more factories, everything making us stronger. Pound sand Chicoms. MAGA!

Emmys, it’s time to check yourself before you wreck yourself. The early numbers are telling us the 2019 Emmy Award telecast was a flop, down 22 percent from last year’s discouraging 10.2 million, which is less than what a weekly episode of “NCIS” garnered in its 16th season. Various production choices — no host (unless you count Homer Simpson), crummy disco music, a puerile announcer — are partly to blame. But the main problem is the award itself. The Emmys don’t mean much to the American public because last night’s big winners — “Game of Thrones,” “Fleabag” and “Chernobyl” — are done, off the air, out of production, kaput.

So, as it turns out, Elizabeth Warren’s Social Security expansion proposal is not the only one of her plans to affect Americans’ retirement well-being. But the proposal of hers which will affect Americans’ retirement savings, in their 401(k)s and their IRAs and the funded status of their pension plans (which might be irrelevant for single-employer traditional pension plans guaranteed by employers but matters considerably for multi-employer plans), is tucked away in a component of her platform with the harmless-looking title, “Empowering Workers Through Accountable Capitalism.” It’s a proposal that’s a repeat of legislation she proposed in 2018, the “Accountable Capitalism Act,” which, as it happens,

British tour company Thomas Cook collapsed early Monday after failing to secure emergency funding, leaving tens of thousands of vacationers stranded abroad. The British government said the return of the 178-year-old firm's 150,000 British customers now in vacation spots across the globe would be the largest repatriation in its peacetime history. The process began Monday and officials warned that delays are inevitable. The Civil Aviation Authority said Thomas Cook has ceased trading, its four airlines will be grounded, and its 21,000 employees in 16 countries, including 9,000 in the U.K., will lose their jobs. The company several months ago had blamed a slowdown in bookings because of Brexit uncertainty

One of America’s great men, FDR, although not without faults, began the practice of speaking to the nation via radio shortly after he was inaugurated in the winter of 1933. He was talking about the banking crisis that then enveloped the nation and his aim to was to alert the people about the problem and then sell them on his drastic proposals to shut all the banks, audit any and all of them, and then reopen the ones that were basically sound and put in place restrictions and guarantees that still underlay the banking system in this country. We are in the middle of a media feeding frenzy over a supposed intelligence community whistleblower complaint on Trump’s conversation last summer with the Ukrainian president. We know almost nothing about the complaint or the conversation, but that has not stopped a full-blown “we’ve got him now!” type joyfulness throughout the mainstream media and Never-Trump-land. Lack of actual facts has not stopped Democrat candidates and various pundits from declaring that this is further ground for impeachment. The initial claim was that Trump threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine if it didn’t investigate the business dealings of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, while Joe was Vice President. Then the story changed,

Last week, in a Democratic presidential debate, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro read a list of black Americans killed by police violence. Alongside Laquan McDonald, Walter Scott, and Eric Garner, Castro named Michael Brown, who was shot dead five years ago in Ferguson, Missouri. Several of the current Democratic candidates have accused the officer who shot Brown of murder. Brown’s death was a tragedy, but it wasn’t a murder. When Democrats claim it was, and when they refuse to correct that mistake, they cast doubt on their commitment to truth. And they undermine the cause of criminal justice reform. Brown became an icon of the Black Lives Matter

Like any religion, wokeness understands the need to convert children. The old Jesuit motto (sometimes attributed to Voltaire) was, after all, “Give me the child for the first seven years and I will give you the man.” And so I was moved but not particularly surprised by George Packer’s tale of a progressive school banishing separate restrooms for boys and girls because this reinforces the gender binary. The school did not inform parents of this, of course: Parents only heard about it when children started arriving home desperate to get to the bathroom after holding it in all day. Girls told their parents mortifying stories

Chick-fil-A has more than doubled its annual sales since gay rights advocates called for a boycott of the chicken chain restaurant after it was revealed nearly a decade ago that the company donated to organizations that opposed same-sex marriage. In 2018, the company had $10.5 billion in total sales, becoming the third-largest chain in the nation behind Starbucks ($20.5 billion) and McDonald’s ($38.5 billion). It was a 16.7% increase in sales from the year prior. An analysis credited the growth to a variety of factors, including the opening of nearly 700 more locations in recent years, low start-up costs, and digital sales via delivery apps. There are now more than 2,400 locations nationwide,

The Trump administration signed an asylum agreement Friday with El Salvador, giving the U.S. the right to repatriate migrants who cross through El Salvador to reach the U.S. and who then request asylum here. Officials hope the agreement, along with a similar one signed with Guatemala over the summer, will change the incentives that have spurred this year’s illegal immigration surge at the border. Most asylum-seekers have bogus claims and won’t win their cases, but under the current system, many of them were allowed to remain in the U.S. while they argued their case — giving them a foothold here. Officials believe that if they can block those bogus asylum-seekers

"Democrats say we have guns in America because of 'corruption,'" former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared on Twitter on Sept. 12. "No, we have guns because it's our God-given right enshrined in the Constitution." (Snip) The second part of that tweet is silly; God didn't give people the right to own AR-15s any more than a divine entity gave Americans the right to own automobiles without seat belts. The first part of Sanders’ tweet, though, is mostly accurate. The National Rifle Association's money doesn't corrupt Republican legislators. Instead, Republicans oppose gun control because conservative political identity is today inseparable from guns. Identity is a deeper motivator
