Two Dutch nationals were arrested Tuesday, accused of trespassing at a national security site in Nevada on the eve of the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The men, identified as Govert Charles Wilhelmus Jacob Sweep, 21, and Ties Granzier, 20, were booked into the Nye County Detention Center after being apprehended about three miles inside the property, FOX 5 of Las Vegas reported. The pair told sheriff’s deputies they understood English but ignored warning signs because they wanted to see the property. They reportedly identified themselves as makers of YouTube videos, and had camera equipment in their car, according to FOX 5.

This incident seems very bizarre....two Dutch kids just happened to be hanging out in the middle of 'nowhere' in the Nevada desert?! I wonder what the real story is.....

How come Youtubers never infiltrate the Holland secret explosive Tulip field testing area? Instead they and every other alien/immigrant/illegal all feel the need to break our laws with impunity. Toss the book at them.

YouTube (AKA Google) could end this type of behavior as well as the ice cream licking fad by very publicly and permanently ending the accounts of people caught in this behavior. No more getting likes or money for them. They do it if you are too conservative, but they can't find it in their hearts to do so for people caught doing stupid illegal things. The military needs somewhere they can test planes and electronics. People are already crawling over each other trying to exchange military secrets for money. Whether they want to think of it like that or not, that is essentially what someone does when they sneak into the Nevada test range with cameras.

Irony here. Anyone can take an organized tour of the site by simply registering : http://www.nnss.gov/ Of course, you won't see the Groom Lake base (aka Area 51), but you will be very close to it; only a ridge separates you from it. Open google maps and search for "Sedan Crater", then expand the view a little. The Groom Lake base is clearly visible. Sedan Crater is one of the stops on the organized tour.

On a spring afternoon in 2000, Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani used a news conference in Bryant Park to drop a personal bombshell: He was separating from his wife. That was news not just to New York City but also to Donna Hanover, the woman he was married to at the time. There was more. Mr. Giuliani, then a United States Senate candidate, casually mentioned that Judith Nathan, a woman whom he had just described as a “very good friend,” was someone whom he would now turn to, “more now than maybe I did before.”

Good morning, and welcome to the Essential California newsletter. It’s Friday, Sept. 13, and I’m writing from Los Angeles. John Steinbeck entered the literary stratosphere by way of his native Central California, through stories that lionized the downtrodden and often unseen. “The Grapes of Wrath,” his account of the fictional Joad family fleeing the Dust Bowl for the promise of the golden west, won him the Pulitzer and the National Book Award, as well as accusations that he was spreading Communist propaganda. He was a man described by many as a “bard of the people” for his dignified and sometimes romanticized portraits of the working poor.

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke on Thursday called on big banks and other financial institutions to cut off business with gun companies in an effort to bankrupt them. "Credit cards have enabled many of America's mass shootings in the last decade—and with Washington unwilling to act, they need to cut off the sales of weapons of war today," O'Rourke tweeted. "Banks and credit card companies must: 1. Refuse to take part in the sale of assault weapons. 2. Stop processing transactions for gun sales online & at gun shows without background checks. 3. Stop doing business with gun & ammo manufacturers who produce or sell assault weapons."

When Christine Blasey Ford testified against Brett Kavauagh last year during his confirmation hearing to sit on the Supreme Court, she had the backing of the leftist media, the #MeToo movement, the pro-abortion movement, Hollywood, Democrats in Congress and her activist attorneys. But noticeably missing from Ford's corner was her family. Now, thanks to Mollie Hemingway and Carrie Severino, we know why. Writing for The Federalist, Hemingway and Severino report Ford's father actually backed Kavanaugh's nomination. "Within days of Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, a fascinating encounter took place.

Some criticisms of the political media, like that it fabricates allegations and makes up sources in order to embarrass our great president, are bogus. Others, such as that it oversells new “characters” and conflict-oriented storylines at the expense of conveying the full, contextualized totality of some situations, can be fair. And that critique is particularly fair right now in regard to the coverage of Bernard “Bernie” Sanders, the Brooklyn-Vermont “democratic socialist” who takes the debate stage Thursday night as one of the three leading candidates to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Given that debate performances are scrutinized for how they shape the primary “narrative,” Sanders is at a disadvantage.

On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its report on the nation’s income, poverty, and health-insurance coverage for 2018. News that the percentage of Americans with insurance took a troubling stumble—the largest since the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010—was the angle that most interested frontpage editors. But one other tree in the Census forest of graphs and tables should have been an eye-catcher: poverty in single-mother households sank to its lowest rate . . . ever. What’s more, the decline took place entirely among black and Hispanic single-mother families. For those plugged in to debates about welfare reform and child poverty over the past 20-plus years,

Good advice. It is a curiosity how a self-declaring Christian can still stand strong on the side of abortion rights. This is what Buttigieg said a few days ago on a “Breakfast Club” radio interview: “Right now, [conservatives] hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion, which is obviously a tough issue

The Trump administration is officially rolling back an Obama-era environmental rule that threatened farmers and other landowners with significant fines or jail time if they failed to comply with onerous regulations on waterways. The Clean Water Rule, more commonly referred to as the “Waters of the US” rule or WOTUS, was finalized by the Obama administration in 2015. The rule attempted to clarify which waters were subject to the regulations of the Clean Water Act, but in many cases ended up confusing land owners even further. For example, WOTUS is supposed to contain agricultural exemptions for farmers.

The Trump administration’s revolving door took another spin earlier today, when President Donald Trump announced that he asked Ambassador John Bolton to resign from his position as national security advisor. Bolton is Trump’s third National Security Council chief to cycle out and was reportedly fired because of his policy differences with the president. (Bolton said he chose to resign.) In a major win for the Trump administration, the Supreme Court issued an order late Wednesday ending all injunctions that had blocked the White House's ban on asylum for anyone trying to enter the U.S. by traveling through a third country, such as Mexico, without seeking protection there. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals – long a liberal bastion that has been aggressively reshaped into a more moderate court by the Trump administration – handed the White House a partial victory in the case on Monday by ending the nationwide injunction against the asylum policy. However, the 9th Circuit kept the injunction alive within the territorial boundaries

Early Monday morning, Donald Trump tweeted: “94% Approval Rating in the Republican Party, a record. Thank you!” Where the president got this specific number remains a mystery. But I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that Trump used his Sharpie to round up his score. He’s deeply invested in being — or at least claiming to be — the most popular Republican president in history.

The group aims to “shut down the largest oil export channel in the U.S.” for 24 hours. Law enforcement officials told the local NBC affiliate that Houston Ship Channel was temporarily closed down because the protesters threatened to lower themselves to stop ship traffic.

To date, five congressmen from Texas have resigned instead of seeking re-election in 2020. Their resignations signal two things from GOP leadership. The first is the realization that Texas is now lost. The second is that this loss is due entirely to the changing demographics resulting from legal and illegal immigration. The five congressmen that have resigned are Bill Flores (17th), Will Hurd (23rd), Pete Olson (22nd), Kenny Marchant (24th), and Mike Conaway (11th). Of these five, Congressman Conaway is unique in that his district will likely remain red for some time. He has not faced an opponent in numerous election cycles.

When we’re faced with threats of inundation, our reaction has traditionally been to build walls. Sea-level rises, storms and floods have been held back with solid barriers, seawalls and dykes. We have used walls to keep out people, too: the fact that this has failed throughout the ages has not stopped its recent revival in the United States. The climate crisis threatens global sea-level rises of well over half a metre if we fail to act, while tidal storm surges will reach many times that height. Fiercer and more frequent hurricanes will batter us, and millions of people who live in areas where crops have failed
