Texas Republicans are sounding the alarm as Democratic presidential candidates get ready for their debate next week in Houston, warning that the Lone Star State could become more purple if the party doesn’t treat it as a 2020 battleground.
Most in the GOP are confident President Trump will win Texas and its 38 electoral votes next year, and they think Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn will turn aside his Democratic challenger.
But they are worried they will lose more House seats a cycle after Democrats clawed back two districts as they retook their majority.

Voter registrations are the key. California was historically a Republican state. Then the voter registrations began to swing Democrat. I haven’t checked in a while, but with Republicans around 25% and No Party Preference registrations’ having grown to about 30%, the Dems to not have a simple 51% majority, but at 40%+ they have more than the Republicans. To prevail, the Republican candidates must attract more than just registered Republican voters.

For decades California, Illinois, New York and Massachusetts have been an easy target for conservatives in "safe" red states to ridicule their citizens for "allowing" the socialist takeover of their governments, implying laziness and lack of knowledge. Since the Tea Party days I've tried warn everyone that the seeds of their socialist destruction are already sprouting within their own borders. CA, IL, NY and MA have served as the Left's laboratories on how to effectively subvert state constitutions to preparing themselves to ultimately overthrow of the Constitution of the United States. Many conveniently forget that the citizens of California overwhelmingly voted for no welfare for illegals and traditional marriage; both overturned by Leftist activist judges. We were fighting, but without the support of the Uniparty's Republican wing. Go figure.
While you disdained refugees from CA, IL, NY and MA the socialists were busy indoctrinating your children and grandchildren. Your college towns became bastions of "progressive" thinking and capitol cities mini-swamps run by governors in black face. The Uniparty ruled, whether they wore the red or blue jersey. Now that the Left is in a panic, the decades long experiments in their laboratories are being implemented and procedures expedited to prevent another Trump victory. President Trump, and his precious few allies, are all that stand between us and slavery. We all best do our upmost to vote for MAGA candidates in the primaries.

Brain-dead lie-berals are like plagues of locusts. They devour everything good about where they are, and then move on to the next place and repeat the process.
So many brain-dead Demon-Rats are moving to Texas from the Demon-Rat controlled states that have turned into third world cesspools, because Texas is thriving. But instead of learning the lessons anyone with more than 1/20th of a brain would get (that Demon-Rats destroy everything they touch), they are moving to Texas and voting for Demon-Rats here. If the Demon-Rats ever get control of Texas, it will soon be another 3rd world cesspool.

Keep importing the illegals and it will be a blue state by the 2020 election.
After all, that's the plan, isn't it?

Those who want only to be left alone to run their business, raise their family, hunt, fish, drink and raise Hell do not participate much in politics. Those who plot and plan to take over and enslave the good people of the world have a lot more time and energy for the long march down the road to Communism. Sux that the left always eventually wins but.......man I've had a BLAST living in Texas......collecting old cars and guns and girlfriends without the intrusion of much government at all. I've only got a few good years left but I'd like to thank the "Liberals" kindly for staying out of my dusty,rural,homespun,red-nekid paradise up until recently. When I'm done with Texas and Texas is done with me ......yall can choke on the left-overs.
Just.....Roll me away !

Of course, the influx of new residents from blue states like CA, isn't helping, as many simply keep voting for the Democrat no matter where they live.
First, it's truly up to the Republicans to hold firm, not retire, but make the Dem work hard to win the seat.
Second, need to appeal to the voters in the district, and how the Democrat policies will affect their district.
What those taxes, fees, and regulations will do , and ask the millennial and Z generations who they think will actually pay for all the pie-in-the-sky talk from the Democrats, which isn't just talk, but actual programs that will cost a LOT of money - their money.
But, be specific for the area and district. how banning all fracking will affect their local jobs, taxable revenues, which support their local schools - how will the lost revenues be covered?
Lastly, make sure you're out in the district, and asking people for their vote.

Is that why the 2018 Texas House & Senate, overwhelmingly controlled by Republicans, are acting like democrats? With a $10 billion property tax SURPLUS, voted to spend $17 billion more? And Gov Abbott suggested raising Sales taxes above the 8.25% current rate to fund property tax 'refunds'....
Texas wimpy Republicans are scared of their shadow and will go down in FLAMES if they don't take conservative ACTION, not words, like they have been saying for last 10 years.
Look at 'super-conservative' Pete Sessions, who was living in Florida with his 2nd wife when he was not shaking the money tree in Washington DC - he got kicked out in 2018.......and John Cornyn, has not been seen on streets of Dallas in 10 years.....
Like DC and Federal weasels, Texas is full of RINO weasels and they are cowering.....

There is no logic in that canard. Think about it. The Democrats are content in blue states, especially gorgeous ones like California. And they are content with its government.. On the contrary it is the Conservatives who are urged to leave and go to more Conservative-friendly states. If they choose to do so, how can they do any harm?
Think about it again. Then put that bogusly illogical bit to bed once and for all.

Those pontificating on this thread might do well to remember that Texas was solidly Democrat until John Tower made a breakthrough and even then it took a long time for Republicans to take over the state. East Texas and the major cities never did turn Republican. And whether you like him or not, Karl Rove deserves a great deal of credit for getting the Democrats out of the governor's office and out of Texas legislative control. We've had a good ride in this state and we better work on holding on to the gains, not taking them for granted.

Well the Republican politicians over decades have gone along with allowing mass uncontrolled illegal immigration to exist for decades for cheap labor purposes. There are now realistically over 20 million illegal aliens or former illegal aliens now in the USA. Additionally over decades illegal aliens have given birth to millions of children in the USA most of who are poor, generally uneducated, and highly socialist oriented, who are now registering as new voters. Most support the Democrat socialists. Now the Republicans are finding out that all that is coming back politically to bite them on their butts, as after the Democrat socialists politically flip Texas and a couple of other key States the Republicans will no longer have the potential to win enough electoral college votes to elect future Republican Presidents. That’s why Barack Obama recently remarked that he was elected President 20-30 years too early to be able to take part in the socialist transformation of America into a minority-majority country, driven by what Obama believes to be unstoppable demographic change.

I’m glad to see #13 show up with the real history of Texas politics. And a strong word of caution.

Wrong word in the title. Texas isn't Evolving. it is Devolving.
I like OP's word: "marabunta". I had to look it up to be sure that what I thought it meant is what it really means. A perfect descriptor of what is happening in Texas. And as there are many species of "Army Ants" there are many species of marabunta invading Texas.

Rick Perry traveled all over the west when he was governor inviting Californians and Coloradans to move to Texas. He got what he asked for along with, I'm sure, the unintended consequences. Now, the state is in jeopardy of turning purple! Wow! in a time when dems are crazier and more evil than ever. If Texas goes, wow!

Texas conservatives haven't a clue how to operate politically in this changing environment. The ten gallon hat and six-shooter approach doesn't appeal to naturalized citizens from Pakistan and India. Fort Bend County is a good example.

Oklahoma to our north is about the only solidly Republican State in the Union. When the rust belt imploded, corporations large and small decided to move to Texas, and when the Yankees and Left-coasters lost their jobs, they moved here too in search of a job. I see license plates from every State, and north Texas has more 4-story apartment mega-complexes recently built, and more under construction, that it appears we're settling entire small towns in each complex. Most here are young heads full of mush driving small foreign cars. I truly hope the economy "back home" starts to improve and its siren song plays in their leftist prog heads.

Well, a lot of us Texans find it hard to hear what #3, 7, 10, 14, 18 and 19 say but its the raw truth. We can’t blame the influx of the blue state liberals for ALL this mess.

Like marabunta, the Democrats are on the march, destroying everything in their path. Texas is on notice. They cannot say they were not warned.
