Pope Francis said he is "honored" to be criticized by conservative Catholics in the United States."For me, it's an honor that Americans are attacking me," Francis told reporters Wednesday during a flight to Mozambique. The pope's remarks came after journalist Nicolas Seneze presented his book about conservative critics of the papacy, according to Crux. Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni clarified after that "in an informal context the pope wanted to say that he always considers criticisms an honor, particularly when it comes from important thinkers and, in this case, of an important nation."

Calling you out on your socialist marxism, and your hypocrisy when it comes to God's word is not attacking you. It is defending God. Something you don't seem to want to do. You allow the most vile and debased of sin to exist in your priesthood, and you refuse to clean it up. We aren't attacking you. You are causing all your own misery.

If he thinks it’s an honor to be criticized for his socialistic theology, then that makes him a fool.

60% and 80% of American Catholics have a positive view of the Pope? They must have done the survey among Catholics who were actually in Churches. The ones who left should be polled too.

#4 I'm pretty sure it's the other way round. Maybe 60-80% of lapsed Catholics approve of him. Maybe. Real Catholics don't.

The sex crimes against children were going on even in the Pope John Paul II days. Very little has changed and they made him a saint. I know a lot of good Catholics who live according to church doctrine, but the church itself is not living up to its own standards. This most recent pope is a disgrace.

It shouldn't be an honor when you are wrong. Catholics have not called a Pope wrong in a long, long time. It's sad when the people know better than the leader of the church.

It is difficult for me to say this, but this pope is a dope! Popes used to stay out of politics... Now popes make stupid statements.... This man is not in the same tradition as Saint Peter....

Pretty snotty remark coming from a man of God. What a loser. A reminder that even popes can be total losers and dangerous demagogues.

My guess is that most of the money supporting the Catholic Church comes from America. We can fix that!
I know I'm doing my part in reducing my donations significantly.

Hey pope. You are being attacked for being an apostate and for advocating the worst form of governance ever devised by man. Other than that, we have no issues.

This lunatic is no Pope. He is just a lucky fool like Obama, placed in the office due to no accomplishments of his own but because he repeats the current fashionable things to say. Pope John Paul II was the last truly great Pope. I miss him terribly right now.

Explain to me how the College of Cardinals elevated this moron? If its G_ds will, then the long term plan must be the destruction of the church.

I've been a Catholic for 76 years, and all I can say is, "He's not my Pope!" Benedict is still writing and that's the Pope I listen to. As long as the Catholic Church let's Pelosi, Biden and all the 'Catholic' abortion proponents remain in the church, I'll make my weekly donations to my local church, none for the special collections for the popes or bishops!

I work with a lot of Catholics in the pro-life movement here in Texas. I have not met one that likes this pope in the least. They all believe he is doing terrible damage -- and seems to be doing it intentionally!!!! Every year the Church takes up a special collection called "Peter's Pence" that is given to the Pope for his special projects. In the past, popes like John Paul II did really great things with that money. But they all said they refused to donate this year our of fear of what he would do with it.
It's just scary on so many levels!!!

It’s pretty sad when the pope attacks the country that gives the Catholic Church more $$$ than all the other countries combined. The church is supposed to unite, not divide. He reminds me of Obama.

I think this may be a tempest in a teapot, and believe Francis was saying he was flattered that some in the US think he is important-enough to be disagreed with. It can be worse to be ignored than to be disagreed with.
From the article: “Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni clarified after that ‘in an informal context the pope wanted to say that he always considers criticisms an honor, particularly when it comes from important thinkers and, in this case, of an important nation.’ ”
