They should be feeling good about American capitalism... they just "shook down" Directv for a huge sum of money to use many of their local channels... but, I'm glad they are playing the National Anthem to start the day - they ought to follow it with the Pledge of Allegiance.

So are they going to end the day with High Flight? (You know - 'Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of earth . . )

When I was a kid, local stations would go off the air overnight. I liked to stay up late to watch the Anthem played, to be followed briefly by a test pattern. When the TV screen went to static and white noise, it was time to go to bed. With stations broadcasting 24/7, it will be interesting to see how the Anthem fits into the schedule.

A wonderful idea. It's a 'catchy' tune. I hope it catches on in other markets. It should be played more than it is. It is sure to drive the leftists nuts.

Bravo #2.
Same, #3.
Johnny Carson, some other stuff, the National Anthem and Poltergeist buzz until the farm report.
At that point I'd move over to KCOP channel 13 Los Angeles and watch Humphrey Bogart movies.

I'm not certain as I never stay up that late anymore, but I'm pretty sure at least one of our local stations, WHIO, still plays the National Anthem and "High Flight" at some point in the middle of the night.
Trivia: The Mike Curb Congregation, who this College of Entertainment is named after, did the song over the closing credits for "Kelly's Heroes."

When I was a kid, this was a common practice. High Flight at sign off not so much. Since many station now operate 24/7, I wonder what time will be chosen as the beginning of their daily broadcasts.

About 70 years ago, all, meaning every TV station closed the day with the Star Spangled Banner. You hoped the sound was turned down low enough so your dad didn't bring a little wrath your way. That tune would wake him, or bring him to attention.

For those of us old enough to remember - when I was growing up in the 1950s and 60s, the TV stations always signed off in the late evening and signed on again in the early mornings. On both ends of their programming day, they all played the Star Spangled Banner. Remember the test patterns the stations broadcasted just before they signed on in the morning and just before the national anthem was played?

I remember decades ago when I was in Sidney, Australia they premiered the movie “Zulu” there and we got to attend that performance in a large movie theater. The first thing that happened when the screen opened was Queen Elizabeth was shown in a red dress military uniform on a horse, as everyone stood up as they played “God Save the Queen”. After that everyone sat down and the movie started. I never saw anything like that show of patriotism in any US movie theater.

This will mean another Instagram lecture from AOC; she'll bemoan how fearful the anthem makes her along with "climate change" and her garbage disposal.

In my day, the flag was the first thing I saw on TV in the morning (after the test pattern) and the last thing at night.

Used to be the norm, and they often closed out with it, before the test pattern. Remember when TV wasn't on for 24 hours a day?

Back in the olden times of television, when a high percentage of TV and radio stations signed off, you heard The Star Spangled Banner. Seems like most stations broadcast 24 hours a day. I don't know if any station plays the anthem. I'd like to see a major broadcast group play the anthem at midnight. Once upon a time a certain percentage of broadcast time had to be devoted to Public Service Announcements. I would think the anthem would count as a PSA.

Exactly the way it was #3 and others. It was a more quiet, more respectful, more love-of-family-and-country time. Hopefully, some of today's children will get to know the peace and security that those little patriotic TV presentations provided.
