A panel of "experts" assembled by New York Mayor Bill De Blasio has suggested to the city that the best possible way to desegregate its school system is simply to do away with the gifted programs for some the Big Apple's best and brightest students. The reasoning? These programs are mostly full of white and Asian students, and not many black or Hispanic kids. So, if they get rid of these classes, then the city naturally becomes desegrated. The New York Times has the story:
Mr. de Blasio, who has staked his mayoralty on reducing inequality, has the power to adopt some or all of the proposals without input from the

The exceptional kids will go private or move, if they can afford it.
Exceptional kids in homes that are strapped are simply out of luck. The secret is, they won't be missed, if they never become what they could've been.
Progressive policies at work. Poverty is the great equalizer.

Expect an exodus of good students from the public schools. I've known several people over the years who've said that they only kept their kids in public schools because they were in gifted classes.

The bell curve is racist. Just like all math. And English. And fact-based history.

Meanwhile, China is developing their gifted children as fast as they can. What could possibly go wrong?

The Democrats are the real racists. It seems they are the ones who believe the old canard 'The Black man is fundamentally inferior to the White Man'.

When that happens the gifted whites and Asians will find private schools or make other arrangements. The result will be wait for it... schools with just black and Hispanic kids! The unintended consequences of the virtuous Democrat "experts" is never ending and yet they are clueless when it happens every time! There are just as many gifted blacks and Hispanics. But as long as academic achievement is disdained by the black community and coded as something "white" then those gifted students will be left behind. As long as Ebonics is preferred by the black community over proper English then change will be very difficult. One thing about leftist "experts" is that they are always wrong!

Socialism seeks the lowest common denominator. No need for excellence. No need to fully develop students/people to their fullest potential - everyone is mediocre and one size fits all as far as the state is concerned. I've taught for more than two decades and have seen the education system gutted with this kind of thinking. We spend more than other developed countries yet get less because of all of the "special" programs for the low end of the spectrum.

This will give the disparate suspensions crowd a way to throw white students out of school.

Not to sound racist, even though I now lean in that direction, but isn't this a huge admission of the validity of the Bell Curve?

It would be interesting to interview the parents of the gifted.
Who did you vote for?
Well guess you're not gifted.

They want non-rich people to never have the ability to attain the levels of higher education and success, since they will never have the ability to attend Ivy League, and high-profile, competitive schools unless they ended up attending a private school that still had "honors" levels classes.
This is a means to control and manage the masses instead of opening up opportunities.
My step-son had one "B" in high school, and his classmates at the University of Notre Dame wondered how he was able to get in with one "B".
Do you think without honors classes any child would have the ability to enter such elite colleges and universities?

And I understand Mayor DiBlasio will be appoint Fredo Cuomo as his "Handcapper General"
per
HARRISON BERGERON by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
"THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General."
