Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who has been noticeably absent from Twitter for the majority of the week, returned on Friday in a Twitter thread, ranting about the Electoral College and accusing the GOP of being “scared” of a popular vote because “they *know* they aren’t the majority.”
While Ocasio-Cortez has been relatively silent on social media over the past week, she made waves after posting a video on Instagram Monday, mocking the Electoral College, and by consequence, Middle America’s voice.
“Alright everyone it’s been a minute. We’re coming to you live from the Electoral College,” she said as her video panned to empty plainlands.

Popular vote, direct democracy, mob rule.
Should scare all sensible people.
So, is AOC sensible?

Throw California out of the union and we would not have that much to worry about. Well, we could add Oregon, Washington State, Illinois, New York and a couple of others.

The irony that a Representative from one of the population centers the Electoral College was designed to protect us from would blast it so firmly is just rich.

Not as scared as Dems are of "Voter ID", sweetheart. Let's see what happens to the popular vote then, Ms. Bug-eyes.

I think it's time to cut off OAC and Her Squad from being Media Darlings! Quit posting their latest Tweet, or covering their latest Media Blitz. And why in the world are TV Stations allowing them to CALL their own Presser! THEY are NOT that important. Most of us could give a whip what these Idiots are doing. THEY are NANCY'S problem and she had best get a hold on them or they are going to run right over her and she won't know what hit her. She should have slapped them down the first month they were in Congress!

I wonder if the thought ever occurred to Cortez to start supporting ideas that would actually move the country forward instead of backwards. Anyone else can understand that if we were to not have an electoral college system that the dim-controlled and highly populated cities and urban areas would run the table in every election and the more sparsely populated rural areas would have absolutely no voice at all and their votes would mean nothing. It's clear to me that our founding fathers were much more intelligent and thoughtful than Cortez could ever be.

As I have said before, Leftist think that sending out some Tweets critical of the Electoral College will kill it off. They cannot fathom having to actually amend the Constitution with super-majority support from Congress and the states. Such process would require long months and years of hard work and diligent persuasion. No need to worry about her late-night ramblings - the Electoral College is cast in stone.

Yes, "the popular vote" is very, very UNFAIR to a confederation of individual states, many with small populations.
That is SPECIFICALLY why the Electoral College was created. In hard fact, without the Electoral College, the confederation would never have happened, because the small states understood that they would be quickly swamped and have NO power.

Did this loud mouthed whiny moron never learn that the US government is not a Democracy but is instead a Representative Republic? We are a Union of 50 states, each of them with their unique interests both economic and social. Even European parliamentary governments do not elect their Prime Minister through the popular vote and in multi-party systems of governance small parties with tiny levels of support are able to win seats in parliament and wield power as part of a coalition with other parties of similar beliefs but not identical platforms. The truth is exactly the opposite of what AOC and her cohorts are now saying. It is they who are afraid of the electoral college. They know that they cannot win the presidency with the electoral college in place and they are in the process of making their excuses for Trumps re-election preemptively.

I suppose the pablum spit-up from this infant is supposed to pass for intellectualism on the Left. To me, she's criminally stupid and a menace to any society. Basically, if she can't have her way, she would tear it all down.
Then her lengthy explanation and justification of her position sounds like it comes from a spoiled brat wondering why their allowance is smaller than all their friends.
Here's a few thoughts for you to chew on AOC: 1) The House (and it's 435 districts) was designed to capture population (your point) and density thereof, thus there are more Representatives in the House just from NYC then some entire states. 2) Your House vote is, however, equal in proportion to everyone else's 3) The Senate, OTOH, was designed to capture the sentiments of ALL the people in the particular state. Thus, senators run state-wide --- but often get elected only by a big city in that state. You get your way again. Do you really think "rural" New York wants Up Chuck Schumer? 4) The hated Electoral College was specifically designed by geniuses and actually melds the two concepts of House & Senate to balance out conflicts. Basically, a "state", not a territory like Puerto Rico, gets one vote for each House member and two more votes for their senators. The one who collects the most of all of these 535 votes wins. Some small states only have 3 Electoral votes while others, like your New York, have over 40. The Electors, however, can often vote for whoever they want! (And they often do). It's called compromise. You should try it some time. It works like marriage --- no one partner gets everything their way.
Funny but if it were another way, let's say based on the 3,141 counties voting (Trump carried about 80% of those), she'd scream even louder.

The UK doesn't use popular vote. Nor does Canada. They vote for MPs who then elect a leader.

Neither the Republicans nor Democrats will ever seriously consider abolishing the Electoral College and replace it with the popular vote. Because, the "winner-take-all" rule most states have for determining their Electoral votes prevents Electoral votes for third party candidates for President. (When Ross Perot ran, he got 20% of the popular vote, but zero Electoral votes)
And, it would eliminate the slight edge small states get from the additional Electoral votes for their two Senators.

I am so glad for the EC, given all the fraud and dishonesty from the Left. They are so desperate to defeat Trump and our will that it is going to be an ugly year unless we all stand strong against them. Let them know just who the majority is in this nation. It is not the Left. They are just noisier than we adults are.
