President Trump sparked an uproar in Denmark with a Tuesday night tweet saying he is canceled a scheduled visit to the country, given the prime minister’s lack of “interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland.”“Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time ...” the president tweeted.“... The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct.

Wonder if Trump took his basketball and went home if he felt slighted when he was young. If this is sole reason to cancel trip shame on him.
Ps i’m a Trump supporter.

She should have kept her big mouth shut and talked to the President privately about the matter! It will end up costing them a great deal. No brains, no headaches.

Seems rather odd that an offical communication about a state visit would be announced via twitter and not via diplomatic channels. Does anyone else find this story odd? One wonders if its fake or not.

Did those who are upset about this (and why are they?) read the part in the intro where it say “I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time.”?
“took his basketball and went home”…kind of an oddly derisive remark. As for this being something for the diplomatic corps to handle. it’s my impression that our President makes his own decisions about when he travels, with whom he will meet and when.

W/b interesting to see Denmark protect Greenland from Russkies and ChiComs. Kind of like the Brits and Germans trying to defend their flagged ships in the Strait of Hormuz - don't have any ships that are seaworthy, let alone ability to supply them. Also like Russian subs snooping around Swedish waters and the Swedes failing in stopping them. Germans can supply troops with broomsticks to fight with their Iranian trading partners.

I’m guessing that the PM went back on a prior agreement to discuss the matter. You don’t mess with Donald.

Hold your horses people. Trump has just indicated that he is serious about acquiring Greenland. That little twit of a PM over there wouldn't discuss it with him and listen to what he has to say, so he gave her a big FU, for now. It's a win-win for Denmark. They get a billion dollar or whatever bonus by the sale and save $700M to 800M a year supporting that huge chunk of ice. That's what Trump was going to propose. This ain't over, folks!

Sundance usually gets it:
sundance says:
August 20, 2019 at 10:49 pm
Denmark asked President Trump to pay them a visit.
Trump asks team: what benefit might exist?
Team says: “maybe that old purchase Greenland thing?
Trump says: “tell me more”.
Team briefs on previous possibilities.
Trump says: OK, schedule the visit and I’ll ask.
Team begins scheduling visit. (very complex process).
Someone asks WH prep team: “why Denmark?”
Response: “dunno, something about buying Greenland”…
OMG !! …Media off to the races.
Denmark says “Greenland not for sale”.
Trump tells team: “no sense in visiting, cancel plans”.
Trump sends tweet.
Understand now?

Just what's going on here? All of a sudden, we're buying Greenland? That's all we need. Sixty thousand more people on welfare, they have the highest suicide rate in the world, among the highest alcoholic and HIV/AIDs rates. These people might be 'Danish' citizens but they are mostly indigenous (Inuit) people, not Scandinavians. I'm not being racist just stating facts.
And if the population doesn't want to be part of the U.S. we must respect their feelings. All we need is more people who hate being Americans. We have enough home-grown haters already.

The art of the deal is in play here. Bringing in Greenland as a US territory would address a number of national security concerns. Plus it would be totally cool to welcome Greenland into the United States of America - no pun intended. The form of payment would likely be in the form of gold.

#17, no way, the way that would go is like this
Pres Trump: "How much for Greenland?"
Denmark "$150 billion."
Pres. Trump, "OK, how about if we throw in Puerto Rico?"
Denmark, "Then make it $400 billion."

What is the political persuasion of the Prime Minister of Denmark? Are they a raging lefty or are they more moderate? The PM's quick rebuff puts them at odds with Denmark's royal family who seemed open to negotiations. How much influence does the royal family have in Denmark, btw?
Trump cancels visit.
The proverbial 'ball' is in Denmark's court.

The price of Greenland just went down. First deal is always the best with our great President. And no, Trump wasn't "rebuffed" and he's not hiding in his "safe space". I can't believe that people can watch the man for three years and still be so dense.

Love Denmark, but it is a very small country of very little interest in the scheme of things. What else would Trump have to discuss other than Greenland?

When the Prime Minister of Denmark publicly called out the US President’s comment on Greenland as being “absurd” the Danish Prime Minister essentially insulted the USA and thus closed down future talks with President Trump. So it would be a complete waste of time for Trump to go there. Funny that CNS failed to mention the Danish Prime Minister’s “absurd” comment in the article.

Well, there’s one ancestral homeland I can cross off the visit list. The insulting responses of Danish politicians show you what the Danish people are really like. Who would want to visit a place like that? They won’t even pay their fair share to defend their own country and have counted on us to do it for them for over 70 years. The free ride is over. Boycott visiting Denmark, danish hams and danish cheeses. They aren’t insulting Trump. They are insulting every American. I am sick of it, aren’t you?
