Much as we did after Sandy Hook, we find ourselves debating background checks in the wake of killings that would not have been prevented by one. More than 60,000 Americans died by gun homicide between 2013 and 2017, but our attention is drawn only to the rarest, most spectacular, and most unusual incidents, those where a half-day or so’s worth of fatalities happen all in one place — and in those, it is usually the case that the deranged killer bought his guns legally or took them from someone else who did.
But then again, now is as good a time as any to talk about measures

If the republicans screw this up they could lose the 2020 election across the board.

In 2013, number and percentage of murder arrests by race were:
Black or African Americans 4,379 = 51.3% (13% of population)
White Americans (non-Hispanic Americans) 2,861 = 33.5% (64% of population)
Hispanic Americans 1,096 = 12.8% (16% of population)
American Indians or Alaska Natives 98 = 1.14%
Asian Americans 101 = 1.18%[52][53]
Why is it not reasonable to legally forbid Blacks owning guns?

The only reason for “universal background checks” is that, i order to work, all firearms in private hands would have to be registered.
It’s a back door to registration and then confiscations.
Period.

Republicans shouldn't even be discussing this with the gun grabbing democrats. Read the last part of the article. When the feds start to dabble in registration of personal firearms the next move is confiscation plus the cost to enforce and store the data. Bigger government and not one life is saved. Ban and register bad people.

Absolutely NOT.
The intent of this is to have a permanent, centralized record of who owns every single gun in this country, with the CLEAR INTENT that this will eventually be used to round up all guns and disarm us, always the first step to tyranny.
No to government control of weapons. No, NO, NO. There MUST be large numbers of guns freely sold without government interference to keep the government in check, and unable to account for enough private guns to disarm us.
A terrible idea that the antigun, totalitarian left is wedded to, because they want to confiscate them ALL.

You are wasting your time, #2. Democrats and liberals are totally deaf when it comes to data and facts. The one that drives me up a wall is this: the FBI crime data base says there are around 12-15,000 murders per year, of which about 500 are the result of someone using a rifle/shotgun (or, as the lame stream media like to say, a "long gun", which makes real firearm owners envision a musket from the 1700s). Note 500 murders using ANY type of rifle/shotgun: not just an "assault" rifle. Yet any time there is a "mass" shooting (generally defined by 4 or more victims in a single incident) the pols instantly want to ban assault rifles. When you ask them what's an assault rifle, they either mislabel semi-automatic weapons as automatic or, more likely, they resort to descriptions of military style weapon characteristics -i.e., a bayonet lug, an adjustable stock, a muzzle brake, a vertical grip, or a high capacity magazine. Some even will say "those black rifles."
There is nothing like being governed by people who have no idea about what they are attempting to legislate/control. Meanwhile, anti-gunners have managed to bastardize the real reason for the 2nd Amendment, which any reading of the authors' positions on the amendment at the time of its writing will reveal the real reason was not to ensure a trained militia or personal protection or hunting, but was to insure a tyrannical government could not enslave the people without them resisting. Don't fall for the gun grab, folks: as trite as it may seem, if it happens, only criminals and elitists will have firearms.
