A gun store in Katy, Texas, is taking some fire over a “back to school” sale, not that the owner is rushing to apologize.Located some 10 hours away from El Paso, where a gunman opened fire at a Walmart last week, killing 22 people, Boyert Shooting Center advertised the sale on a marquee outside the store.“Back to school sale August 13 through 18. Up to 50 percent off firearms,” the message read. Katy gun store faces backlash over back-to-school sale sign — ABC13 Houston (@abc13houston) August 11, 2019

Good news. ANY legal product is fine for a 'back to school' sale. I hope he gets extra business due to these idiots' hate spewed at him and his business.

It's a valid advertisement here in Texas. Here, if the college or university has approved it, it is legal for any person having a concealed carry permit to carry on college property if the school. As I understand the new legislation, it won't matter if the school approves it or not - it will be legal to carry. I teach a night class at a local college that has a remote classroom facility in the downtown area of a local small city - not a good area to be in after dark. There were about 25 students in the class, almost all female and, as I recall, most, if not all, over 21. Some guy wandered in off the street (obviously not in his right mind) and somehow made it into our classroom during my lecture. I managed to get the guy out of the classroom quickly because at least 1/3 of the students had their hands in their purses - I wanted him out of there before he (and maybe I) got perforated by the legally armed ladies! Try to tell Texans (including females) they have to give up their guns. Imagine what would happen if the Chicoms tried to forcibly 'pacify' Hong Kong if the populace was armed. In Texas, there would be nearly as many women as men with a gun in their hands. Come and take it.

50 years ago nothing filled me with panic and dread faster than seeing "Back to School" ads in the paper. Maybe a gun shop would have taken some of that edge off.

This place is less than 2 miles from my house . . . used to be called Tactical Firearms under the previous owner. They always have some clever message on their marquee: "If you can read this you're almost in range. Come in and give us a shot." "Gun Control: Buying 1 Gun When You Really Want 2" Last year when Dick's Sporting Goods stopped selling semi-automatics, Boyert had this on their sign: "We're not all Dicks. We still sell ARs." And painted on a wall inside is this: "It's better to live one day as a lion . . . . than 100 years as a sheep."

Personally I think it's a ridiculous logo. I can understand shoes and books but don't bring guns into the picture. The store owner is either being deliberately foolish or alarmingly ignorant.

LONDON — The hallowed nave of a medieval church, with its stained glass windows and soaring arches, is usually thought of as a place for prayer and quiet reflection. Late one afternoon, while taking a leisurely stroll on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a friend of mine named Tim Malloy ran into a trim, silver-haired neighbour of ours from Palm Beach in Florida. The man was walking down Madison Avenue, and several things about him were striking. For one thing, he was wearing slippers. Expensive, embroidered, monogrammed slippers. But slippers all the same. For another, he was accompanied by two exceptionally attractive women. As the man half shuffled, half walked down the avenue, the women walked slightly behind him, as if they were attendants or staff.
