Sen. Cory Booker (D.-N.J.) said in a speech at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday that bigotry was written into the founding documents of the United States and that white supremacy has “always been a part of the American story.”“Bigotry was written into our founding documents. Native Americans, in our Declaration of Independence, were referred to as savages,” Booker said. “In our Constitution, black people are fractions of human beings.(Video) “White supremacy has always been a problem in our America story,” he said. “If not always at the surface, then looking not so far beneath it.”Here is a transcript of the part of Booker’s speech

Sen. Booker, the reason slaves were counted as 3/5 persons was because the Northern colonies did not want the Southern colonies counting their slaves which the South viewed as property as equal to free man yet were still slaves. And if the South was able to count their slaves as equal to a free man, the Congressional representation would have favored the South. Fool, idiot and race baiter

Does Cory know that the slave owners wanted slaves to be counted as full persons so their population would be greater for purposes of electors and Congressmen? The 3 for 5 compromise was intended to give slave states less power than they wanted. It had nothing to do with considering slaves less than than fully human.

These people are not even slightly aware that they are taking things out of historical context and by doing so their judgments and conclusions they reach are invalid. Times were different then. Who knows...maybe savages WANTED to be called savages. To judge history with TODAY'S eyes is an exercise in futility and a great example of someone who doesn't think through what he is saying.

Exactly what I was about to post, #1.
I'm really, really tired of all of these Dems disrespecting our Republic, i.e., our Founding, history, traditions. There never has been a regime without flaws, foibles, missteps, but there has never been such a magnificent political system construed by man.
From now on, every Dem candidate should be challenged on this, ask them where they'd prefer to live, what kind of political system is their preference.
Can they point to ANY country in history which lived up to the Dem standard (whatever the he&& that is).
And this from a man who grew up in very privileged circumstances; he's quite the elite.

Look back at the history of any country or group of people. Even among the best of them, you will find negative qualities, some of which are essentially evil.
One mistake people make, however, is using the lens of their own time to judge the past. Some things we call evil today were not considered evil "back then" by the vast majority of people on the planet at that time. I dare say slavery is an example of such a thing.
But look at history the other direction. "Back then" (name the time) questioning the authority and power of a ruler -- let's say a king -- was akin to blasphemy. How dare someone think twice about the man anointed by Almighty God to lead, was the thinking.
There are things that are evil regardless of whatever human lens we choose to look that them. Based upon the teachings of Jesus, not loving one's neighbor as oneself is one of them. According to that standard, Booker has to love -- wait for it -- Donald Trump.
Humans are imperfect. They are sinful. They miss the mark. But so far in history, the form of government conceived by the American forefathers and foremothers is still the best. It is not perfect. But it comes closer than any other -- certainly better than the socialist/communist form of government Booker and his pals would impose on us all. And the American form of government gives room for people to become more just and more merciful because it recognizes the inalienable rights bestowed upon us, not by humans, but by Almighty God.

Cory is intentionally misinterpreting the past for political purposes.
America wants leaders who look to the future with realistic plans to make the country better.
What did Cory accomplish to improve his city during his tenure as mayor of Newark, New Jersey?
What has Cory done to address the self-inflicted problems in the black community, such as gang violence, rampant homicide rates, drug use and drug dealing, failing schools, etc.?
Cory wants to be a victim, America wants a problem solver.

Cory dear, long before the dreaded white man set foot in North America, the various indian tribes were very busy murdering and enslaving each other. Then there was the torture and the scalping of live enemies.

Corey has obviously never read the Founding Docs and has no idea of what is in them what they mean and what the intent of our founders was in writing them. He is just reading something that was written for him. Another loser in a long line of totally history illiterate buffoons.

Please, sir, move back to Africa, where everything was just wonderful, nearly perfect before your ancestors were taken away.
I believe it was Cassius Clay, after a big fight took him to actually visit Africa who said, "I sure glad my ancestors got on that boat."

Jefferson was biggest supporter of freedom, but in real life it supported his lifestyle too well - in an extremely tight labor market, who was going to take care of Monticello and Poplar Forest? In reading his writings, you can see he saw the path for freedom of slaves, but the Colonies were only going to unite as states under a weak form of association - the Articles of Confederation, if that was not on the table. Ditto when the Confederation failed due to lack of tax revenue, and the stronger US Constitution was only ratified - by Southern States - with no mention or path of emancipation/manumission.
It is interesting - growing tobacco requires lots of labor, but as worldwide supply increased, its sales price in the US dropped to become a losing proposition. Geo Washington saw this trend and diversified his crops, caught and sold fish from the Potomac, and distilled whiskey for hard cash from bars in Alexandria. When the cotton gin was invented at the ned of the 18th century, demand for farm labor increased.

It's amazing that the USA has been around since 1776 and the current crop of liberal Democrat candidates are only now discovering that our founding documents are racist, white supremacist, and bigoted. We have been around 243 years and the Democrats seem to think that our founding documents have morphed into something they are not just because Trump is President.

There may have been some very fine Indians back then, with morals and character, but they were still savages. And it's too bad that more blacks could not have participated in the founding of our country, but unfortunately, most of them were illiterate because the demoncrats would not allow them to be educated. There was bigotry and white supremacy in the United States, alright, but it was mostly confined to the demoncrats, just as today.

As I recall, most blacks did not want to go back to Africa. They preferred to stay in America after the War was over. Those that did go back I believe that nation is named Liberia. The last thing we need is another America hating, incompetent and ignorant minority president. Give us one who is intelligent, maybe self made and understands how great this country is. That is not Booker or any of the current candidates at the moment. With the possible exception of Tulsi. But she is too unstable, choosing to change her position in a flash if the wind blows just right. I call her the female Romney.
