Homer's Odyssey hero Achilles gained fame with his reckless attacks. He was able to be so reckless because his vulnerability was small when compared to his giant frame. While the GOP continues to enjoy its strong base and enthusiasm, it also has an Achilles heel: its lack of effective opposition research. Governor Northam exposed this weakness back in February when pictures of him from his medical school's 1984 yearbook emerged naming him as a figure either dressed in KKK garb or in clichéd and racist blackface. While the author sees it as an Achilles heel, I see it as the Republicans not wanting to get caught up in identity politics and the immaturity of bashing the other opponent.

Problems is if the GOP candidate has so much as a parking ticket on his or her record the rats will go after that with fervor. The dem can have child molestation charges in their past and our side will decide to take the high road and be nice. We need more Trumps out there running for the lower offices or we lose. Nice guys almost always lose and this is a battle we can not afford to lose.

Well, I don’t think if you focus on actions and illegal actions, you have an Achilles heel.
What we have is failure to hold accountable because of fear of being targeted for picking on a woman of color..
Republicans were/will be called horrible names.. Howver, Ilhan needs thorough vetting and exposure. She feels embolden because of press love.. but the more she speaks the more radical she becomes. I would have her taken off foreign affairs committee ASAP... but Democrats have this Albatross.. and she is their identity. Prove me wrong!

I believe that Judicial Watch is on her case, and they do very good work.
I hope they continue to be on her case.

Thomas Jefferson, a democrat, was one of the first confirmable American politician known to hire someone to do opposition research on political enemies. It blew up in his face when his employee, angry over his pay, presented to the public the 'story's of Jefferson's affair with one of his slaves.
Since then, Democrats learned a lesson: pay your opposition research well, and include your friends in the research.
It still blows up in their faces from time to time.

The Republicans also don't have hundreds of media outlets ramming their message down the throats of people 24 hours a day like the democraps. It's not that the Republicans don't have the goods on a number of democraps, it's that most people don't hear about them or hear them often enough.

I think the GOP consistently uses two failed strategies:
1) Hold the dirt for a rainy day when you need to use it.
2) Keep your mouth shut so you will not be attacked for political correctness.
Trump is not afflicted with either of these.

#6 has it exactly right. The real difference is that the Democrats have the enemedia as their ultimate oppo research service. Not only is it totally free to them, it's also an anti oppo service. Namely, if the Republicans get dirt on the Democrats, the enemedia totally ignore it. And the best example recently is Omar.
The very extensive research on her revealed by the people over at Powerline has been completely ignored. Her fake marriage to her brother. Her and her family's fake immigration. Other illegal activities. Nothing, nada, zilch in any of the enemedia. In fact, they lash out at anyone who brings up the facts, calling them racists. They are indeed the enemedia.

The GOP knows how to do this, remember a guy named Roy Moore? How about Dr. Milton Wolf? Ted Cruz?
There are scores of others. The GOP hates nothing more than an actual conservative. They would rather see Ilhan Omar successful than someone who is true to the constitution and the people.

When you do opposition research you normally keep it confidential so you can surprise your opponents at the proper time. You don't make it available to the MSM so they can write stupid articles. The KKK/Blackface thing is only a problem because people have lost their sense of humor. It's been in the book for 30 years and nobody cared. It's not an actual embarrassment like say, Bent Willy flying to the Dominican Republic 27 times with a drink in one hand and a little girl in the other, or fat boy congressmen being seen in a swimsuit on the beach in Puerto Rico. Democrats degrade and embarrass themselves every day but don't get caught accusing a black man of corruption or smearing a little soot on your face.

Cernovich believes that it is actually in the GOP's best interest to have someone like Ilhan Omar filling Minneapolis's seat in the House.
Let's see now, why was Trump elected? Oh yeah, that's right, the GOP was against losing seats before they were for losing seats.
Republicans built Omar's brand by giving her direct attention, which in our media system leads to a defense of her from Left-wing media
Wow does Cervanovich eat the Skittles pooped out of his purple unicorn or what? The "Republicans" have cowered away from everything Omar because they are feckless cowards wetting themselves bravely in a safe space corner whenever Omar whispers boo in their ears. Trump is the ONLY, repeat ONLY Republican who has given Omar attention that allows the Marxist media to defend her blatant hatred of Israel and her blatant support of the 9/11 terrorists.
The GOP's Achilles heel has ALWAYS been a box of Depends so they can bravely fall down, roll over and soil themselves every. single. time. on every. single. issue.

I wish the Republicans had more "take no prisoners" in them. They always concede way too soon. This is why President Trump has been the answer to our prayers. He fights for the American people, not a lobby or special interest, and he fights to win.

Even if Gillespie had the killer instinct and the photos of Northam and ran with it - too many Blacks Dems in Virginia would have ignored them and still voted for the Dem because republicans are racists. We have a mostly ignorant population of voters on the Left.

Whats the point of republican opposition research when:
A: The media wont give any dirt in democrats the time of day, let alone coverage.
B: the left automatically defends, minimizes any negatives.
C: the media runs with any dirt on republicans real or otherwise.

In the past, the wimpy establishment Republicans have always tried to project that they were the Marquess of Queensbury like “Gentlemanly” political party, as they went up against the street smart, conniving, corrupt, totally politically partisan, and of course corrupt leftist and liberal Democrat and emerging socialist political party, a political cabal that will do or say anything to gain or retain political power, in accordance with their primary political mantra that the end justifies the means, when it comes to whatever that do or say to remain in political power.

I am not likely to give this Omar any credit for this whatever. And it has always puzzled me why all the money i have spent on the GOP and the RNC over the years has not bought any knowledge of what the hissing snakes on the other side of the aisle mean to do to us. The pubbies have been so certain to wear their lapel flags but have ignored GAINING knowledge of the opposers, whether or not they shared it with the base.

What you need to be able to do is criticize someone for their policies, regardless of the color of their skin.
I don't care what color skin you have, if I don't agree with your ideology, it's just that, your ideology, or approach to the problem. And, the lack of your actual desire to fix a problem, instead building a massive gov't program around which doesn't solve/fix the problem.
Also, I am always reminded that you likely don't agree with your wife, children, parents, siblings on all issues either, so why should someone you don't even know, or likely even met, be required to agree with all of your policy issues, or you agree with all of their policy issues?
And, it doesn't mean you "hate" your wife, children, parents or siblings either.

RNC is a useless group. How could they have not foreseen the "ballot harvesting" coming back to bite them? What are they doing for 2020? I don't see anything going on ground in the rust belt or CA? Do they think they can live forever on their laurels from 3 years ago?

The reason Trump is successful and beloved by so many is he doesn't shy away from the fight. He relishes it! He takes it to the enemy (though inartful to some) and doesn't hold his punches.
The GOP should wake up to this new reality, and fast.

The only thing Omar knows how to expose is her head when she takes her rag off at night. Other than that she is just another hate-filled third-world beggar who struck it lucky by being allowed into the United States and continuously repays us with her hate and discontent.
I give the RNC no credit for Donald Trump, especially when they use his name to solicit money. They fought him tooth and nail during the primary and long into his first year. Now they might be jumping on the bandwagon of success but they still resent his non-politician status and would love to go back to the old days of go along to get along. If they attempt that with this new generation of democrat snakes they will be eaten alive.
