Inside the preparations for Mueller’s
history-making testimony

Robert Mueller testified more than 60 times on Capitol Hill during his dozen years as FBI director, but none of those hearings packed anywhere near the amount of anticipation, partisan rancor, or political stakes as his appearance promises to on Wednesday. And the former special counsel has relied heavily on one man to help him navigate this Washington landmine — Jonathan Yarowsky. Over four decades as a Beltway attorney, Yarowsky offered impeachment advice to Bill Clinton, and worked for a lawmaker who Richard Nixon once called the “executioner.” He oversaw an unsuccessful push to get a 1990s-era Attorney General Bill Barr to appoint an independent counsel to probe

Mueller is said to be working with Democrats to co-ordinate their efforts, and now this attorney to spin a narrative. The Democrats cannot tell the truth, as it would put them in prison.

The Dems think they are smarter than the republicans on this committee by half. Nothing could be further from the truth. They have nothing to work with. And this will be an exploding cigar in Nadlers face. This is going to be comedy in its highest order.

What I want to know is: 1. Who is paying for this high-priced lawyer to coach Mueller? I do not think the taxpayers should have to fund this. Mueller should be able to give his testimony without a defense attorney. 2. Why does Mueller need this help AFTER his report is issued?

Today Boris Johnson has been elected leader of the Conservative party, and tomorrow he will be crowned Prime Minister. I’m a lot more optimistic about Boris than many people seem to be. On Brexit, certainly, I think he’ll do the right thing — not least because all the other options have been exhausted. But I’m also prepared to be disappointed. So which will it be? Bold Boris or Useless Boris? We’ll know soon enough. Here are some of the problems he’ll need to tackle successfully in order to fulfil his Churchillian destiny.

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it hand-delivered ethics complaint to Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Office of Congressional Ethics David Skaggs calling for a full investigation into potential crimes tied to allegations that Rep. Ilhan Omar may have married her biological brother. “The evidence is overwhelming Rep. Omar may have violated the law and House rules. The House of Representatives must urgently investigate and resolve the serious allegations of wrongdoing by Rep. Omar,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “We encourage Americans to share their views on Rep. Omar’s apparent misconduct with their congressmen.”

Who knew that the humble footnote would loom so large in some of the most consequential documents of our time? Those bottom-of-the-page annotations are supposed to impose rigor on authors by forcing them to cite justifications for what they assert. But in the age of collusion claims, footnotes have become so much more -- places for officials to tuck away inconvenient information; discreet spaces in which to make dubious assertions; or fine print in which required disclosures can be hidden in plain sight. It was in the footnotes, for example, where the FBI appears to have misled the FISA court in its application to spy on Carter Page –

The Costa Rica Ministry of Health said fourteen men and five women ranging in age from 32 to 72 died in June from what appeared to be methanol poisoning, local outlet the Tico Times reported. They were not immediately identified. The Ministry of Health warned against consuming booze from a number of brands because samples had tested positive for methanol adulteration.

How did wealthy sex offender Jeffrey Epstein come to be palling around with Bill Clinton and Donald Trump? People who know those involved said Epstein’s connections to two U.S. presidents ran through one bubbly British heiress: Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell, who has denied accusations made in civil suits of aiding and participating in Epstein’s sexual abuse of minors, has been among the financier’s closest associates. Unlike Epstein, she comes from a rarefied background that gave her entrée to the rich and powerful.

On Wednesday, House Democrats will have a chance to breathe life into the Mueller report. Relatively few Americans have read the 448-page document in which special counsel Robert Mueller concluded the evidence did not establish that the Trump campaign and Russia engaged in a conspiracy or coordination to fix the 2016 election, and also declined to conclude whether or not President Trump obstructed justice. Democrats know the report has failed to capture the public imagination, and they hope bringing Mueller to Capitol Hill for questioning will catch the nation's attention. "Not everybody is reading the book, but people will watch the movie," a House Judiciary Committee official told Politico's Playbook.

The headline of the House vote on a resolution to impeach President Trump was that lawmakers rejected it by an overwhelming 332-95 margin. But the story was something else: 95 Democrats vote to impeach the president, not for any alleged high crime or misdemeanor, but for causing "harm to the society" of the United States. The vote, in other words, showed that 95 Democrats will vote to impeach the president for anything. For them, there is no need to accuse Trump of a high crime or misdemeanor involving Russia, or obstruction of justice, or campaign finance violations, or any other arguably impeachable activity.

NEW YORK - Support for U.S. President Donald Trump increased slightly among Republicans after he lashed out on Twitter over the weekend in a racially charged attack on four minority Democratic congresswomen, a Reuters/Ipsos public opinion poll shows.
